Folks ! It's straight 4/4 time with those questionable pesky triplets..It's not a waltz. It's a Scherzo almost like a tango... You could count it alla breve [cut time] too. Re; TRIPLETS: Sometimes I think it may have been transcribed wrong in that they could be played as quarter note triplets across the 3rd and 4th beats of Meas. 2. Then, next measure are notes [ A and G, G tied to 4 meas. ]. This to me is more Mexicanisimo than the way Dave and most everyone execute it.. The written way seems a bit Anglicised from Ponce's world (the faster triplet IE.)... The B section, or bridge, is quite classy, very odd and rare..Gotta love it !! Nice to see the 4 harms. come out of the barred F#7..Loverly ! M
There are at least two versions that I'm aware of: 1) Manuel Lopez Ramos in D major (sixth string tuned to D); and, 2) Sophocles Papas in E major. Edson Lopes may have one, too. The Ramos version is the probably the most played.
