In college in 1989, I did a master class with him. He hasn't lost an iota of the fire and technique that make him, in my opinion, the greatest classical guitarist of all time.
Haha, perhaps not quite so great as having practised a huge amount all the while. Sensational playing. I keep returning to hear this. Thriling and uplifting in equal measure.
Almost without exception, for every great performance, for every great composition, there are always a few idiots to cast a Thumbs Down, simply because they can...
@SB Tofu I'm sure for some this is easy, but certainly not for me, and my original comment was try to be ironic, hence the 😊 Anyway, all the best in learning this piece, its really nice
This music brings peace in mind, like wandering in the middle of silent night. Superbly played. Mr Russel stands equally with John Williams and Julian Bream
As always, David's playing his spectacular.. but, alas, not as always, Sergio's writing is weak and random, shifting from one idea to another without too much direction and meaning, often the result of finger wandering rather than true inner inspiration.. but as long as it is fast and virtuosic, most listeners will be deceived into believing their hearing music, rather than mere pyrotechnic grandstanding.. If only dear, wonderful Sergio had had just a bit more training in composition and idea development!
David Russell is Scottish by family, but he was raised in Spain. That is why he plays the guitar with Spanish rhythm and musicality that most British players do not have.
some parts of this work are interesting - some too my taste a little too brillant to be enjoyable - like Gould - when he gets crazy about speed - a great work of memory too !
No no, listen to viazovskiy, clearer and more imagination. If you want to listen to my playing, well it is difficult to say that I always outbested almost anyone I watched.
Difficult to point out better playing if your eyes are clouded by big names. I know some secret of some big names, and most of them don't play really good.
@@stephenlee9512 bro I play jazz guitar. He played it well enough that it sounded good to me. Yeah I’ve seen his name a couple times from the classical stuff I’ve played and listened to but it means nothing to me because I don’t love in the classical world. I’m sure there are better classical players out there but I think he did the piece justice and see no reason to knock it.

to Manuel Salgado ... Check his Sonata, or Jobiniana 3....hardly A. York style... I believe that mood of this is cause of background of this composition ;)

That's good! Humility and practice are wonderful things ...btw: me too. Ha!
I wasted 20 years of my life playing guitar because no one told me I was just not gifted.

Just imagine how he'd sound if he'd only practice once in a while !
Haha, perhaps not quite so great as having practised a huge amount all the while. Sensational playing. I keep returning to hear this. Thriling and uplifting in equal measure.
sounds so egberto
Saw him when he came to Gatineau, Quebec, he played almost an extra concert’s length of music in encores.
His play is out of this world perfection
The resonance, fluidity and lyricism are dazzling.
such fluid flowing lyrical playing... a joy to watch and listen to. Thank you Sir David. ;)
One of the greatest guitarists ever.
His technique is far greater than anyone else's! He's amazing. :)

Maestro da música e da vida! Muito talento e anos de disciplina.
La música que desprende de su guitarra es fenomenal. Agrada muchísimo.

The top of the classical guitar hierarchy
It's such a shame that there is no official recording of this song anywhere that I can find
He must be a Guitarist from another Planet. Wau, how good he can played! Very very well!
Love this piece David! Hope you play it when you come to Tucson in Feb. looking forward to hearing you again! You are the best!

Groping for the WOW! emoticon. Right, this is UA-cam. Love David Russell's playing and his picks of artists he flatters with it.

Anyone has a style to frame Assad's work? I have two ideas (that do not exclude from themselves)
a) jazzy like
b) andrew york like
Manuel Salgado a jazzy like i think
O encontro de 2 gênios - Sergio Assad e David Russel ! Simplesmente maravilhoso !
so beautiful and encouraging piece and what a brilliant performance.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excelencia y calidad en la interprestacion y el sonido. Felicidades Maestro.
Sublime! And slightly very demoralising haha!
This man is the pinnacle. Don't compare yourself to the pinnacle. Only compare yourself to who you were yesterday. Goes for a lot of things I think.
@@tomm9402 well said

You are a so clear and expressive musician. Thanks for sharing

Joyful musicality, beautiful tone, and jaw dropping technique. Wow!
simply...'' DAVID'' !

Not really
