Let’s talk about buttered sausage. Where it comes from, what it does, why it’s doing what it’s doing, get it out of face.

    Amazing video as always 🙏
For the cheapskates among us who don't have Ableton Live Suite, you can sort of make this work using Simpler instead of Sampler - it doesn't have modulation for the sample offset built in, but if you drag an Expression Control onto the track, you can map Velocity onto the Start parameter and it basically does the same thing.
Crossfading between samples is a bit more of a pain in the arse since Simpler doesn't do multisampling - you can kind of get there with an Instrument Rack with seperate instances of Simpler on each chain, but it's a faff to set up...

You can swap out samples by right clicking the sample and going to 'manage sample' then using the hot swap button:)

Hey Ned, under Sampler's MIDI tab you have 2 options for assigning Velocity. You could, in addition to assigning Velocity to Sample Offset, also assign it to Sample Selector. The blue vertical indicator doesn't look like it's moving but it definitely sounds like it's randomly switching between the samples.

awesome, I was just thinking to myself that I need to spend some time making glitchy stuff for fills etc,. and upon searching for "Ned Rush glitch" I was treated to a video hot off the press. Many thanks Mr. Rush

You made the sound my Xbone makes when Fallout 4 crashes (about 19:00 in). Good show. :D Gave me a start and I wasn't even playing the game. Almost even cursed like Pavlov.
I'm still having too much fun with Simpler. I keep trying to break off to Sampler and get frustrated by what it does not have instead of enthused about what it does. I think Sampler needs an upgrade like Simpler got, such that they compliment each other better overall. Switching from one to the other used to feel less like a chasm in ability.
    Happy Weekend.

This is great. Using a saw wave lfo on the sample offset you could stretch a sample of any length to fit perfectly within one bar (or two bars, half a bar, etc). ramp it the other way to reverse the sample.

Love this Ned…l’m usually a simpleton just sticking with Simpler and some LFO’s , I sleep on using Sampler , and only remember to use because of something else you did in the past with velocities connected to the offset. I really like the random tail release, like pseudo choppy reverb. Definitely gonna have a go with this and get a Dr.Chaos sequencer to trigger EVERYTHING!!!! 😅 iLove using PORTAL by Output, as it’s a granular signal processor ( fx unit ) . I use ‘ SPACECRAFT’ as a granular synth/sampler . I have an SP404 mk2 hardware sampler which I use for effects more than for sampling, I wish more hardware samplers had granular sampling modules as part of its playback. So much to explore, in such little TiiiiiiiiiiiiIiiiimmmmmmmmEeeeeEeeeee

Another one of those moments where I go "god dammit, of course!" after you pulled in the arpeggiator and the velocity 😄 I'm going to have a thorough playaround with this, thanks Ned 🙏 As for variations and getting more cloudy, maybe the Expression Control device could help out? I saved myself a preset with all the six sources just set to Random instead of the other MIDI readouts and that's just good fun! Gonna stick it after the Arp in this rack and start mapping some stuff.

I've started to really enjoy sitting interesting sounding drones/atmospheres right at the back of my tracks to get that subtle 'ear candy' things going - this looks like a great way to come up with some really interesting pads and textures. Well played as always, sir!

I once did a surround sound granular synth project in Max. I modified an existing Max granular patch to output a single grain to each speaker. It gets interesting then when you try different ways of triggering the grains. A linear stream of grains plays each speaker in a row giving a circular motion around your head for example. It's a bit of a shame multi speaker support is not a feature you find in any commercial granular synth. It's really worth trying if you have access to a multi speaker setup

      @cockur 11 місяців тому +1

@@crysstoll1191 Hi yes possibly Reaktor too. I believe I modified the Sakonda granular patch as there was something specific about it that made this possible. It was a long time ago now and I've unfortunatly forgotten everything I knew about Max

I used to love HourGlass before I had more powerful DAWs and synths, but my favorite granular synth nowadays is probably the one included in Kilohearts Phase Plant. Great for making strange textures.

Very cool! For a cloudy effect, I used one of the LFOs to modulate sample offset by 0.25, can stack another LFO for cloudy-er as you cant map the offset amount :( I also released If you slow the arp rate but enable the amplitude looper with short ADSR you can 'grain the grains.'

Really cool, especially the things you can do per grain this way which ive never seen before, im not sure what the ms conversion to hz is but in a lot of granulators i like to set the base to 110hz (equivalent of key A) and key map it so it can play in key, get really interesting results doing it

my favourite granular plugins are probably kaivo or phaseplant for synths, and unfiltered silo for fx (has a really sick reverb in it)
