In the books there was a better buildup to this whole mess. Rudy has basically locked himself in for almost a week. He was really beginning to turn back into his old self again, refusing to leave or do anything, just mourning. The advice to do the.. "thing" came from Elinalise. She said she would do it herself, but she knows Rudy has no feelings for her, so it wouldn't amount to anything. That's why Roxy was basically "forced" into this situation. Not that she disliked the idea. Still a mess of a situation but it gives more understanding for Roxy's and Rudy's situation even if it's only a little bit.
Geese was the one to suggest sex, but the others pointed out that some random girl at a brothel wouldn't do. Lilia was shot down immediately as a suggestion. Elinalise refused because of her relations to him. They kinda gave up and trusted that he'd figure things out on his own. Roxy knew better and picked up the thread they'd left hanging.
For anyone who hasn’t I highly recommend reading chapters 10-12, Volume 12 of the light novel as there was a lot that was left out that adds a lot of context. I’ll give some details but the there’s an audiobook of it on UA-cam. 1. First before Roxy goes to Rudy’s Room, the gang excluding Rudeus, have a discussion about his health and trying to get him out of his room. He was locked up there for upwards of a month which is can be implied in the episode. During this discussion Elinanese reveals that Rudy is married, and also thinks up the idea of getting a woman to help him recover. She didn’t want to do it due to her allegiance to cliff but she subtlety hinted that Roxy should be the one to help him out. So Roxy takes initiative on her own to help Rudy. 2. After Roxy and Rudy have sex, there is an extended scene where Rudy essentially tells her he was reincarnated. I can’t really do it justice in this writing so I highly recommend listening or reading to it because it is quite emotional. 3. The discussion regarding Elinanese and why she supports Rudy marrying her can be understood in a single quote from her. “Before Sllphiette was [her] granddaughter, Roxy was [her] friend.” Elinanese knows how much she loves Rudy and thinks that if he doesn’t marry her, she will go down a dark path and as her friend, she doesn’t want Roxy to suffer that. These are just my main things I wanted to bring up but really, you should listen to or read these chapters to get the whole idea.
The only thing i can think about is what his sister said when she saw Rudy the first time at the house. "I saw him with a new girl than the one i saw before," and now after Paul, he is going to come back with a new girl. I feel like his sister is going to hate him even more now. Granted he saved their mom and he went because of her wishes, but i dont think her emotions will accept that he came back without paul and with a new girl.
I heard that Eris actually expects Rudeus to wait for her after she becomes the strongest. How is she gonna react when she sees him with 2 wives and a kid?😆

Just a few extra details that were left out from the LN 1. It had been weeks, rudy didn't eat anything, stayed locked in his room, before roxy coming to rudy's room, elinalaise geese roxy and others were discussing about the situation, roxy got informed by others abour rudeus marrige here and she got flustered about it, elinalaise suggested a girl might help him, not random but someone close could only help him, when asked, she said she couldn't do it with rudy cuz of Cliff, so roxy went ahead and helped rudy out. 2. Rudy pushed roxy onto the bed after roxy provoking him instead of roxy doing it in the anime here. And some details about how roxy was during u know what told by rudy was left out. 3. When elinalaise confronted rudy later, she also implied that roxy could be pregnant, even so roxy was letting herself out, so she suggested rudy to take her in, it is similar kinda to the paul situation with lilia, kinda parallel, that's all.
2 is a good change but 3 i think would've helped the series make WAY more sense compared to "Uwuuu she wuvs you even tho you got a wife now you have to wife her up too" @@reezwave

Lilia, knowing Paul very well, probably prepared Sylphy with the possibility of Rudy having multiple wives. Another thing is that polygamy isn't taboo in this world, monogamy is actually the oddity since only the millis followers observe it. Theres a different person who will be strongly against Rudy and Roxy and well find out who she is when they get home.

Imagine your husband goes to a dangerous journey while you are having a child and when he comes back: "Hey wife 1, hey newborn, here's wife 2". Also imagine the 2 sisters: "Oh hello, dad has been decapitated but hey, here's your new aunty !"

I think you guys missed the point with what Elinalise and everyone else thinks about Rudy. They think he’s fine and that he’ll easily push through because he’s always put on a front with everyone, but in reality, he’s terrible at dealing with trauma. Roxy is the only one who has seen him in that state AND helped him pushed through his trauma. She’s pretty much the perfect person in this scenario to help Rudy (outside of maybe Sylphy).

The only thing I don't like about the show is that Rudy's trauma is always dealt with using sex. It makes men's trauma/emotions kind of seem a bit one dimensional.

In the case of his sadness this episode, he clearly wasn't cured smashing cheeks with Roxy if you look at the scene afterwards. In fact, he doesn't really get over those traumas the whole episode. He just slightly feels better when he and Roxy get together.

Rudy's problem was feeling rejected/hating himself and that manifested in an ED, the ED itself wasn't the problem. There are so many ways he could have been shown complete acceptance. And while the sex with Roxy didn't cure him, it's what got him out of his 2-week depressive isolation where he refused to leave his room or even eat properly.
There were a lot of details left out and switched around from the LN, but from an anime-only perspective, how things went down between Roxy and Rudy make all sorts of sense. Roxy felt like she failed as a master for Rudy because he was so talented, not really knowing up until much later that he is the way he is because she helped him brave the outside world for the first time. Sleeping with him was her way of saving him before he lost himself because "it's better to be a scumbag than regret not doing more." The whole situation is obviously still horrible when considering the fact that Rudy has a pregnant wife at home (made much worse in the LN), but at least these characters own up to being shitty people who act in their own self-interest to save the ones they love.

For anyone following the chain, try not to click the read more if you don't want to be spoiled on the LN - - - In the LN, the party holds a roundtable to discuss how to bring Rudy's spirits up. In the end it's Elinalise who suggests that the best way to solve that kind of sadness is sex, to which the party agrees (KNOWING that Rudy is married btw). They also agree that Roxy shouldbe the one to do it. When Roxy visits Rudy in his room, it's over the span of a couple days, making herself a perfect target for Rudy until one day he snaps and HE jumps HER. He described himself as being so rough with her to the point that he felt bad, but in the end, she did make him feel better. When it came time to suggest marriage, Elinalise actually LIES to Rudy and tells him that Roxy hadn't had her monthly visitor, suggesting that she was pregnant and thus making him feel dutybound to marry her. In the end, I like the anime's rendition of this whole situation more because it's a choice that Roxy took upon herself to save her student and the reason why Rudy is pushed to marry her is because he truly loves her and not because he's dutybound to marry someone he impregnated.

I wish the anime had this line, among other things, but this showed that Elinalise was very good friends with roxy for the years that they traveled together, "Yes, I can say it. No one else could say this but me," she said haughtily as she looked at me. "I realize I shouldn't say it like this, but before I was Sylphie's grandmother, I was Roxy's close friend."'
There is a line in the Web novel from Elinalise where she said "I was Roxy's friend before Sylphy's grandma" which I feel is fucked up but it kinda makes her decision to convince Rudy make more sense
It's easily misinterpreted but she isn't saying to do it even if it hurts Sylphie. What she's saying is this is a compromise, an option, that has the chance to make both happy. I doubt she'd put the option forward if Sylphie was a staunch Millis follower.
Just want to point out when roxy walks into rudys room that's 10 days after pauls death and rudy has been barely eating or drinking in that time and refused to leave the room. This episode prob cut the most stuff from the light novel in the anime adaptation so far.
@@Tounushi As an anime only I thought it was pretty clear. They just passed it on as him being depressed somehow but I don't get that. He clearly looks starved and it's more evident when it later shows him a little happier but still with the lines across his face to show that he is starved.

@6:30 I hate that they cut the scene with the rest of the party drinking and talking about Rudy needing a woman to drag him out of the funk. Geese told Elinalise to go sex him and she said she couldn't do it because he is married to her granddaughter. Roxy hears that and is dying inside. And that's after saying they could take him to a brothel since Lilia is preoccupied with Zenith.

There are a handful of polygamist characters out there in shows and the like, but this is the only series I can think of off the top of my head that actually has such a concept as a work in progress. Feels like this show is jumping right into uncharted territory and I think they’re going about it pretty legit so far.
the issue is nobody's actually been polygamous so far. They've just cheated on their wife then asked for forgiveness. I think there was some sort of line somewhere that implied sylphie wouldn't mind, but for anime-onlies we don't know how she would feel, and even then she's been completely in the dark about this entire situation, and rudy damn near forgot to even run it by her.

Even before that, before they were talking about children, before they were married, Sylphie had said it would be okay. And yes, with the status and money that Rudy has, it would be seen as really weird for him to only have one wife with him not being a worshiper of Millis. It'd might even be frowned upon, with people saying he's not doing his duty to society by having the resources to take care of more women and have more children, but not doing so.

Something intersting to note: from the way Elinalise talks it seems like marrying multiple people is more common/accepted in their world (I haven't read the LN or manga so idk if thisnis right or not). Of course, Rudeus still betrayed Sylphie's trust and Roxy still took advantage of his grievance, there's no arguing that (personally, I believe they're both equally at fault). Still, I really like the way Mushoku Tensei reminds you every now and then that this is a different world, with different morals and different rules. It's very thought provoking and really makes you question what differentiates a "good" and a "bad" person, if such a distinction can even be made.
Polygamy is normalized, so Millis holds monogamy as a symbol of moral superiority. Not that Asuran nobles who are Millis adherents follow that edict... Rudeus was hardly in the right state of mind to chase women, but he accepted Roxy's advances as he felt her presence calming. Roxy did want to sleep with the man of her dreams for its own sake (and to fulfill her fantasy's last clause), but she also saw it as the one way of genuinely helping him. The event is more tragic than something you can culpability in. Rudeus is far away from home, his beloved who'd already saved him is months away from him, he likely only has days left to live as things are going, and they needed him combat effective for the journey home. As adventurers the best solution the party could think of is getting him laid, but the options they explored were shot down (a brothel, Elinalise, and Lilia), and that left three women in the party unmentioned: Vierra, Shierra, and Roxy. Shierra has androphobia from her time in the bandit camp, her sister Vierra has no connection to Rudeus and she likely wouldn't do it anyway, leaving Roxy as the only one who could comfort him in a way they understood a traumatized person needing help. The act reset his mood, but the talk with his master is what got Rudeus on his feet. Think of it like this: he needed a reboot, a recovery after the reboot, and now he needs to return to normality, but that means he needs to get home. If they had to carry him as dead weight, they wouldn't get through the journey to the teleportation circle and it'd take a year the long way. There'll be hell to pay when he gets home, but he'll be getting home.

I really wish they condenced the first two episodes of season 2 part 2 into one, and gave Roxy and Rudy an extra episode. Either before or after the big fight, but focussing completely on their relationship building and struggles. Unlike Sylphie and Rudy, Roxy's love seems shallow and forced. I hear that in the manga and lightnovel it was way better. But now it just seems Roxy was crushing because he looked cool and decided to take advantage of him, while Rudy just let it happen even though he has a wife. I would've loved to see Rudy develop and struggle with his conflicting feelings, and Roxy getting some actual screentime the build feelings while not knowing Rudy was engaged. Also now it seems like Roxy kind of forced herself onto Rudy mere hours after his father died, which feels really wrong. I've been told that in the light novel a lot of time passes between the two moments in wich rudy is basically starving himself. Again, this really needed another episode or two. Especially since having multiple wives and cheating is so taboo in our world. I think the audience kinda needed those extra episodes to see how conflicting those feelings for them are, before they can really accept him having this relationship with Roxy. Now Rudy just feels like a weak scumbag and Roxy feels like she belongs to the streets. Too fast and too forced.

Nah Sheera blaming Rudy is wild, he was in mourning and depressed to a point where he almost could've been suicidal if not for his attachments to his friends and family and Roxy took advantage of it even if he could've said or done something to stop it he's still the victim but just a difference of opinion ig the second wife thing surprised the hell outta me too but oddly enough it didn't bother me as the episode came closer to ending because it's just like Rudy was thinking he's really like his father in having his wants while also wanting to put others before himself
So this entire episode is contentious among LN readers since they cut out a lot of context especially with Roxy and Rudy. Rudy has been like that for I believe 8 weeks and Roxy found about his family prior to them hooking up. Also in LN Rudy was the one who initiated the act itself although Roxy did go in there and had anticipated that it could happen.
As a LN reader, I think the episode could've been better in terms of pacing, but I also don't think it was shit like other LN readers claim. In fact I would dare and say that some of the changes actually improved on the novels

Apparently i hear from a lot of light novel readers that this was made significantly smaller than it was supposed to be, and I think the most shocking detail they skipped is that Rudues thought he got Roxy pregnant so thats why he was sorta forced into marrying her

I think people exagerate the "He needs to ask for Sylphie's permission" like, not shit? obviously he can't just say "I marry Roxy and that's it", no matter what level of a POS Rudeus is, there's no way he is avoiding that conversation unless he literally just ghosts Sylphie and lives elsewhere with Roxy. Right now he needs to think about his resolve and to talk with the person who is currently with him (Roxy) instead of thinking much about the inevitable as it is not like he could do anything about it right now.

Just not enough perspective, guys. This isn't Earth, Christianity and its tenets aren't the predominant belief system, and Rudeus has basically WORSHIPPED Roxy for most of his life, never not thinking about her for a single day. It's not like it could've been anyone else that tempted Rudy, nor would it have been the same level of issue for him. This situation is a lot more complex than a lot of reactors are giving it credit for, and putting too much of your modern world perspective into the situation to try to relate is just not what the story is expecting you to do to appreciate how things progress. Anyways, it is what it is. Just thought there might be a little more perspective considering you guys release your reactions so late in the week.

Rudy had not eaten nor left his room in 2 weeks, he looked like an Ainz Ooal Gown cosplayer with a skin suit over the skeleton at this point. The group wrongfully concluded that Rudy would be fine, he would've become a shut in all over again if they did not intervene, Roxy knows this from back in the village when Rudy was still terrified of going out into the world outside of his family's house, she has to plop him into a horse and escort him along the road to get him to overcome that fear. Roxy was discouraged when she heard that Rudy was married, she didn't want to murk up his marriage but Ennalise did give her a nudge forward on that, her intent was solely just to help Rudy whatever it took since again this was a desperate situation. Rudy was mentally destroyed, he was in deep depression, he is actually the one to be on top but hesitates until Roxy says "we can do it". The next morning his mind is back and he does feel like shit about it, again he basically had no mind at that moment just impulse took over since he has his libido again, as for Roxy she is completely in love with Rudy and was willing to do whatever it took to help him, she was caught in her emotions and desire to get him back up on his feet. Do I condone what either did here? No I don't but this is super important content that was cut which removes the entire context of how dire this situation was, and why the characters did what they did. As for Ennalise her proposition is a good one here, this is a fantasy series after all but they do touch on monogamy through the Millis religion, Ennalise is in a sticky situation too, she loves Sylphie because obviously, she started to see Rudy as her grandson the moment she saw that he had the necklace that Sylphie gave him, and she cares deeply for Roxy as they've been adventuring together for years searching for Paul's family. I don't support polygamy but this is fiction and in the novel it does make sense as the best possible outcome given what has already happened at this point. Rudy asks Roxy first since well she's the only one there to ask at present, they can find out if she is willing, then establish that if she is willing then Sylphie is the one who has the ultimate say in whether this will happen or not, this way everyone can be on the same page. The anime has now done this terribly with Eris first and now Roxy, they made both Roxy and Rudy look horrible here, it sucks that anime onlys have this warped perception of both of these characters now because of the cut content/context
Some people are reacting so badly about this, (twitter, i see you). Roxy just doesn’t necessarily hop straight away to banging Rudy, theres another element, which the anime kind of just brushed it aside. Also, Rudy just wasn’t going propose to Roxy just like that, also another element they didn’t include. I get that the anime is like only 24 ep total and wants to capture as much story as possible, but it feels very rushed and If you read the LN, then this whole thing would make sense and you would understand it better

So they actually changed a lot. - - - - - - - Rudy was wayyyy more depressed in the novel, almost reverting back to his former shut in self. Barely ate and mostly js drank water. Seeing that, Elinalise, Geese, and the dwarf talked and encouraged Roxy to do the deed with Rudy to get him out of his deep depression. She was hesitant, but went through with it. Instead of Roxy taking the initiative, it was Rudy himself. I don’t wanna say more cause I’m not sure if it’ll be elaborated on the next episode or not.
Think most of that still stands they just didn’t show that conversation detailing his exact circumstances. They really only show his point of view which you don’t get how much time passes. He stuck in his own head.
Look, I get that Elinalise is trying to tell us that polyamory is totally normal in this world, other than for people who practice that Milis Religion. Rudy is still thinking with his Japanese brain, about a society in which monogamy is the norm, et cetera. But as a viewer, it really feels like the story is bending over backwards to justify giving Rudy a harem.
Regardless of the ethics of what happened in the moment of Roxy and Rudy sleeping together (Anime or LN version) I'm amazed that any of you were surprised at the prospect of polygamy. Not only was it insanely obvious that it was going to happen or at the VERY least be touched on it's been showed multiple times in the series that it's relatively common practice especially amongst high profile members of society. Let's also not forget that polygamy outside of western countries is not that uncommon even in the real world and it's becoming more and more common around the world as religious beliefs start to fade away in developed nations. The cheating in the moment part is bad, yes. But the reaction to Elinalise telling Rudy to marry both of them being met with "that's trash, this episode is trash" really put a sour taste in my mouth personally. I get it, personal opinion and all that, but the lack of even an attempt to understand what is going on and detaching your own personal morals from a fictional world is something I can't personally understand. Everything happens within it's own context and that seems to have been forgotten this episode. Not everyone has the same beliefs.
But Rudy has lived most of his life in a world were polygamy is not accepted. His morals are very much rooted in our modern times. Hence, he isn't gung-ho for the idea in the first place because deep down, he knows it's a betrayal. Hell his new father got shit on for doing it and he's from THIS world.

These are two very different things. Paul wasn't criticized for practicing polygamy he was criticized for cheating on Zenith. It's been stated multiple times that only followers of Milis believe that polygamy is wrong and that most of the world practices it or doesn't stigmatize it. The Greyrat family (the one Paul and Rudy are a part of) in particular practices polygamy a lot. In fact they seem to take it a step further and go full open relationship where partners can sleep around with whomever they desire without permission from their spouse(s). The reason why Rudy was so broken up about it has nothing to do with the polygamy and everything to do with the fact that he cheated on her knowingly despite resolving himself to being committed to her. I personally didnt like this development in the story. I think it would have been better if the thing to save Rudy from depression, instead of sex (again), was him seeing his child for the first time. Some of us watch anime and play video games to escape the real world and the problems going on, so why do we feel the need to bring out world problems, issues, ideals into the fictional world where as far as we know doesn’t fallow the same rules. In the books there was a better buildup to this whole mess. Rudy has basically locked himself in for almost a week. He was really beginning to turn back into his old self again, refusing to leave or do anything, just mourning. The advice to do the.. "thing" came from Elinalise. She said she would do it herself, but she knows Rudy has no feelings for her, so it wouldn't amount to anything. That's why Roxy was basically "forced" into this situation. Not that she disliked the idea. Still a mess of a situation but it gives more understanding for Roxy's and Rudy's situation even if it's only a little bit.
Geese was the one to suggest sex, but the others pointed out that some random girl at a brothel wouldn't do. Lilia was shot down immediately as a suggestion. Elinalise refused because of her relations to him. They kinda gave up and trusted that he'd figure things out on his own.
Roxy knew better and picked up the thread they'd left hanging.
It's not really made clear here, but in the novel, Roxy knew Rudeus would act out because he was angry and grieving, so their first time was rough

For anyone who hasn’t I highly recommend reading chapters 10-12, Volume 12 of the light novel as there was a lot that was left out that adds a lot of context. I’ll give some details but the there’s an audiobook of it on UA-cam.
1. First before Roxy goes to Rudy’s Room, the gang excluding Rudeus, have a discussion about his health and trying to get him out of his room. He was locked up there for upwards of a month which is can be implied in the episode. During this discussion Elinanese reveals that Rudy is married, and also thinks up the idea of getting a woman to help him recover. She didn’t want to do it due to her allegiance to cliff but she subtlety hinted that Roxy should be the one to help him out. So Roxy takes initiative on her own to help Rudy.
2. After Roxy and Rudy have sex, there is an extended scene where Rudy essentially tells her he was reincarnated. I can’t really do it justice in this writing so I highly recommend listening or reading to it because it is quite emotional.
3. The discussion regarding Elinanese and why she supports Rudy marrying her can be understood in a single quote from her. “Before Sllphiette was [her] granddaughter, Roxy was [her] friend.” Elinanese knows how much she loves Rudy and thinks that if he doesn’t marry her, she will go down a dark path and as her friend, she doesn’t want Roxy to suffer that.
These are just my main things I wanted to bring up but really, you should listen to or read these chapters to get the whole idea.

1. It had been weeks, rudy didn't eat anything, stayed locked in his room, before roxy coming to rudy's room, elinalaise geese roxy and others were discussing about the situation, roxy got informed by others abour rudeus marrige here and she got flustered about it, elinalaise suggested a girl might help him, not random but someone close could only help him, when asked, she said she couldn't do it with rudy cuz of Cliff, so roxy went ahead and helped rudy out.
2. Rudy pushed roxy onto the bed after roxy provoking him instead of roxy doing it in the anime here. And some details about how roxy was during u know what told by rudy was left out.
3. When elinalaise confronted rudy later, she also implied that roxy could be pregnant, even so roxy was letting herself out, so she suggested rudy to take her in, it is similar kinda to the paul situation with lilia, kinda parallel, that's all.
2 and 3 is not left out, they changed it on purpose, and I think it's a good change.

Lilia, knowing Paul very well, probably prepared Sylphy with the possibility of Rudy having multiple wives. Another thing is that polygamy isn't taboo in this world, monogamy is actually the oddity since only the millis followers observe it. Theres a different person who will be strongly against Rudy and Roxy and well find out who she is when they get home.

I think you guys missed the point with what Elinalise and everyone else thinks about Rudy. They think he’s fine and that he’ll easily push through because he’s always put on a front with everyone, but in reality, he’s terrible at dealing with trauma. Roxy is the only one who has seen him in that state AND helped him pushed through his trauma. She’s pretty much the perfect person in this scenario to help Rudy (outside of maybe Sylphy).

The only thing I don't like about the show is that Rudy's trauma is always dealt with using sex. It makes men's trauma/emotions kind of seem a bit one dimensional.

Rudy's problem was feeling rejected/hating himself and that manifested in an ED, the ED itself wasn't the problem. There are so many ways he could have been shown complete acceptance.
And while the sex with Roxy didn't cure him, it's what got him out of his 2-week depressive isolation where he refused to leave his room or even eat properly.
There were a lot of details left out and switched around from the LN, but from an anime-only perspective, how things went down between Roxy and Rudy make all sorts of sense. Roxy felt like she failed as a master for Rudy because he was so talented, not really knowing up until much later that he is the way he is because she helped him brave the outside world for the first time. Sleeping with him was her way of saving him before he lost himself because "it's better to be a scumbag than regret not doing more." The whole situation is obviously still horrible when considering the fact that Rudy has a pregnant wife at home (made much worse in the LN), but at least these characters own up to being shitty people who act in their own self-interest to save the ones they love.

In the LN, the party holds a roundtable to discuss how to bring Rudy's spirits up. In the end it's Elinalise who suggests that the best way to solve that kind of sadness is sex, to which the party agrees (KNOWING that Rudy is married btw). They also agree that Roxy shouldbe the one to do it. When Roxy visits Rudy in his room, it's over the span of a couple days, making herself a perfect target for Rudy until one day he snaps and HE jumps HER. He described himself as being so rough with her to the point that he felt bad, but in the end, she did make him feel better. When it came time to suggest marriage, Elinalise actually LIES to Rudy and tells him that Roxy hadn't had her monthly visitor, suggesting that she was pregnant and thus making him feel dutybound to marry her. In the end, I like the anime's rendition of this whole situation more because it's a choice that Roxy took upon herself to save her student and the reason why Rudy is pushed to marry her is because he truly loves her and not because he's dutybound to marry someone he impregnated.

Just want to point out when roxy walks into rudys room that's 10 days after pauls death and rudy has been barely eating or drinking in that time and refused to leave the room. This episode prob cut the most stuff from the light novel in the anime adaptation so far.
I think it's pretty evident he hasn't been eating. It's been nine days since the hydra and five days since he'd eaten anything at all.

There are a handful of polygamist characters out there in shows and the like, but this is the only series I can think of off the top of my head that actually has such a concept as a work in progress. Feels like this show is jumping right into uncharted territory and I think they’re going about it pretty legit so far.
the issue is nobody's actually been polygamous so far. They've just cheated on their wife then asked for forgiveness. I think there was some sort of line somewhere that implied sylphie wouldn't mind, but for anime-onlies we don't know how she would feel, and even then she's been completely in the dark about this entire situation, and rudy damn near forgot to even run it by her.

Something intersting to note: from the way Elinalise talks it seems like marrying multiple people is more common/accepted in their world (I haven't read the LN or manga so idk if thisnis right or not). Of course, Rudeus still betrayed Sylphie's trust and Roxy still took advantage of his grievance, there's no arguing that (personally, I believe they're both equally at fault). Still, I really like the way Mushoku Tensei reminds you every now and then that this is a different world, with different morals and different rules. It's very thought provoking and really makes you question what differentiates a "good" and a "bad" person, if such a distinction can even be made.
Polygamy is normalized, so Millis holds monogamy as a symbol of moral superiority. Not that Asuran nobles who are Millis adherents follow that edict...
Rudeus was hardly in the right state of mind to chase women, but he accepted Roxy's advances as he felt her presence calming.
Roxy did want to sleep with the man of her dreams for its own sake (and to fulfill her fantasy's last clause), but she also saw it as the one way of genuinely helping him.
The event is more tragic than something you can culpability in. Rudeus is far away from home, his beloved who'd already saved him is months away from him, he likely only has days left to live as things are going, and they needed him combat effective for the journey home. As adventurers the best solution the party could think of is getting him laid, but the options they explored were shot down (a brothel, Elinalise, and Lilia), and that left three women in the party unmentioned: Vierra, Shierra, and Roxy. Shierra has androphobia from her time in the bandit camp, her sister Vierra has no connection to Rudeus and she likely wouldn't do it anyway, leaving Roxy as the only one who could comfort him in a way they understood a traumatized person needing help.
The act reset his mood, but the talk with his master is what got Rudeus on his feet. Think of it like this: he needed a reboot, a recovery after the reboot, and now he needs to return to normality, but that means he needs to get home. If they had to carry him as dead weight, they wouldn't get through the journey to the teleportation circle and it'd take a year the long way.
There'll be hell to pay when he gets home, but he'll be getting home.

I really wish they condenced the first two episodes of season 2 part 2 into one, and gave Roxy and Rudy an extra episode. Either before or after the big fight, but focussing completely on their relationship building and struggles. Unlike Sylphie and Rudy, Roxy's love seems shallow and forced. I hear that in the manga and lightnovel it was way better. But now it just seems Roxy was crushing because he looked cool and decided to take advantage of him, while Rudy just let it happen even though he has a wife. I would've loved to see Rudy develop and struggle with his conflicting feelings, and Roxy getting some actual screentime the build feelings while not knowing Rudy was engaged. Also now it seems like Roxy kind of forced herself onto Rudy mere hours after his father died, which feels really wrong. I've been told that in the light novel a lot of time passes between the two moments in wich rudy is basically starving himself. Again, this really needed another episode or two. Especially since having multiple wives and cheating is so taboo in our world. I think the audience kinda needed those extra episodes to see how conflicting those feelings for them are, before they can really accept him having this relationship with Roxy. Now Rudy just feels like a weak scumbag and Roxy feels like she belongs to the streets. Too fast and too forced.

So this entire episode is contentious among LN readers since they cut out a lot of context especially with Roxy and Rudy. Rudy has been like that for I believe 8 weeks and Roxy found about his family prior to them hooking up. Also in LN Rudy was the one who initiated the act itself although Roxy did go in there and had anticipated that it could happen.
As a LN reader, I think the episode could've been better in terms of pacing, but I also don't think it was shit like other LN readers claim. In fact I would dare and say that some of the changes actually improved on the novels

I think people exagerate the "He needs to ask for Sylphie's permission" like, not shit? obviously he can't just say "I marry Roxy and that's it", no matter what level of a POS Rudeus is, there's no way he is avoiding that conversation unless he literally just ghosts Sylphie and lives elsewhere with Roxy. Right now he needs to think about his resolve and to talk with the person who is currently with him (Roxy) instead of thinking much about the inevitable as it is not like he could do anything about it right now.

This isn't Earth, Christianity and its tenets aren't the predominant belief system, and Rudeus has basically WORSHIPPED Roxy for most of his life, never not thinking about her for a single day. It's not like it could've been anyone else that tempted Rudy, nor would it have been the same level of issue for him. This situation is a lot more complex than a lot of reactors are giving it credit for, and putting too much of your modern world perspective into the situation to try to relate is just not what the story is expecting you to do to appreciate how things progress. Rudy had not eaten nor left his room in 2 weeks, he looked like an Ainz Ooal Gown cosplayer with a skin suit over the skeleton at this point. The group wrongfully concluded that Rudy would be fine, he would've become a shut in all over again if they did not intervene, Roxy knows this from back in the village when Rudy was still terrified of going out into the world outside of his family's house, she has to plop him into a horse and escort him along the road to get him to overcome that fear. Roxy was discouraged when she heard that Rudy was married, she didn't want to murk up his marriage but Ennalise did give her a nudge forward on that, her intent was solely just to help Rudy whatever it took since again this was a desperate situation. Rudy was mentally destroyed, he was in deep depression, he is actually the one to be on top but hesitates until Roxy says "we can do it". The next morning his mind is back and he does feel like shit about it, again he basically had no mind at that moment just impulse took over since he has his libido again, as for Roxy she is completely in love with Rudy and was willing to do whatever it took to help him, she was caught in her emotions and desire to get him back up on his feet. Do I condone what either did here? No I don't but this is super important content that was cut which removes the entire context of how dire this situation was, and why the characters did what they did. As for Ennalise her proposition is a good one here, this is a fantasy series after all but they do touch on monogamy through the Millis religion, Ennalise is in a sticky situation too, she loves Sylphie because obviously, she started to see Rudy as her grandson the moment she saw that he had the necklace that Sylphie gave him, and she cares deeply for Roxy as they've been adventuring together for years searching for Paul's family. I don't support polygamy but this is fiction and in the novel it does make sense as the best possible outcome given what has already happened at this point. Rudy asks Roxy first since well she's the only one there to ask at present, they can find out if she is willing, then establish that if she is willing then Sylphie is the one who has the ultimate say in whether this will happen or not, this way everyone can be on the same page. The anime has now done this terribly with Eris first and now Roxy, they made both Roxy and Rudy look horrible here, it sucks that anime onlys have this warped perception of both of these characters now because of the cut content/context

Some people are reacting so badly about this, (twitter, i see you). Roxy just doesn’t necessarily hop straight away to banging Rudy, theres another element, which the anime kind of just brushed it aside. Also, Rudy just wasn’t going propose to Roxy just like that, also another element they didn’t include. I get that the anime is like only 24 ep total and wants to capture as much story as possible, but it feels very rushed and If you read the LN, then this whole thing would make sense and you would understand it better

Nope, they cheated, they belong to the streets, or something like that I guess. Empathy for a character suffering? What's that? Understanding of depression and how you'll do anything just to feel a tiny bit less despair? If you didn't experience it yourself, might as well be talking a different language. Regret and guilt can make you do wild things, just pray you never have to go there.

Well MT handled this situation quite good I think... In other harem animes, The mc will collect girls like collecting Infinity stones and they would show it like comedy scenes... But here they showed us how messy it really can be, thinking of being disloyal, what the consequences can be, this show does not shy away from that... People are just trashing on Rudy... But he is in completely different world, where people have different morals than us .. Well let's see what happens in next episode

Rudy was wayyyy more depressed in the novel, almost reverting back to his former shut in self. Barely ate and mostly js drank water. Seeing that, Elinalise, Geese, and the dwarf talked and encouraged Roxy to do the deed with Rudy to get him out of his deep depression. She was hesitant, but went through with it. Instead of Roxy taking the initiative, it was Rudy himself. I don’t wanna say more cause I’m not sure if it’ll be elaborated on the next episode or not.

Think most of that still stands they just didn’t show that conversation detailing his exact circumstances. They really only show his point of view which you don’t get how much time passes. He stuck in his own head.
Look, I get that Elinalise is trying to tell us that polyamory is totally normal in this world, other than for people who practice that Milis Religion. Rudy is still thinking with his Japanese brain, about a society in which monogamy is the norm, et cetera. But as a viewer, it really feels like the story is bending over backwards to justify giving Rudy a harem.
Regardless of the ethics of what happened in the moment of Roxy and Rudy sleeping together (Anime or LN version) I'm amazed that any of you were surprised at the prospect of polygamy. Not only was it insanely obvious that it was going to happen or at the VERY least be touched on it's been showed multiple times in the series that it's relatively common practice especially amongst high profile members of society. Let's also not forget that polygamy outside of western countries is not that uncommon even in the real world and it's becoming more and more common around the world as religious beliefs start to fade away in developed nations.
The cheating in the moment part is bad, yes. But the reaction to Elinalise telling Rudy to marry both of them being met with "that's trash, this episode is trash" really put a sour taste in my mouth personally. I get it, personal opinion and all that, but the lack of even an attempt to understand what is going on and detaching your own personal morals from a fictional world is something I can't personally understand. Everything happens within it's own context and that seems to have been forgotten this episode. Not everyone has the same beliefs.
But Rudy has lived most of his life in a world were polygamy is not accepted. His morals are very much rooted in our modern times. Hence, he isn't gung-ho for the idea in the first place because deep down, he knows it's a betrayal. Hell his new father got shit on for doing it and he's from THIS world.
@@juice6521 This is a gross misreading of Rudy's character. He is all for a harem and has vocalized this many times. And what you're talking about is NOT polygamy. It's cheating. These are two very different things.
Paul wasn't criticized for practicing polygamy he was criticized for cheating on Zenith. It's been stated multiple times that only followers of Milis believe that polygamy is wrong and that most of the world practices it or doesn't stigmatize it. The Greyrat family (the one Paul and Rudy are a part of) in particular practices polygamy a lot. In fact they seem to take it a step further and go full open relationship where partners can sleep around with whomever they desire without permission from their spouse(s).
The reason why Rudy was so broken up about it has nothing to do with the polygamy and everything to do with the fact that he cheated on her knowingly despite resolving himself to being committed to her. After Eris the thought of polygamy wasn't even a question to him but as Silphy stated it was basically always bound to happen at some point. He's a Greyrat afterall.

I'm sorry but just about every story element in the show disagrees with you.
I personally didnt like this development in the story. I think it would have been better if the thing to save Rudy from depression, instead of sex (again), was him seeing his child for the first time. Just like Paul love for him saved him in the previous episode, Rudy new found love for his chlid is what saves him this time and it would be a cool way to end this arc. But it seems the author was really horny and he really wanted a harem😆
2:41 I think it's a bit deeper than that even. Orsted said that Paul was only supposed to have 2 daughters. So even though he thinks of them as his parents, he feels like he's not actually his kid (meaning that he doesn't deserve their love) at least that's how I take that comment.

Well she said that to Rudy in the context of having a concubine (not wife) for having a baby. Then Rudy turns it down. So we have to see how it is in this scenario after an affair occurred. Obviously the story is showing Rudy builds a harem so easy to see where it's going. lol

Missing context: Rudy was too deep into depression. Pretty close to starve himeself to death after weeks and there´s no way they were gonna take him like that into the desert.
Why can’t people just enjoy anime for what it is and immerse themselves in the world that has been created. Some of us watch anime and play video games to escape the real world and the problems going on, so why do we feel the need to bring out world problems, issues, ideals into the fictional world where as far as we know doesn’t fallow the same rules. Rudy calls it cheating cause he has his memories from his previous life in our “real world” so he has those ideals. Even the elf gilf stated that only one religion in their world allows monogamous relationship.
Btw people might not notice but Elinalise has a much greater bond with both Roxy and Rudy than she does with Sylphie. She met Sylphie recently but has risked life and limb with Roxy and Rudy
i wish to clearify that in the light novel if this episode rudy starves himself he is waisting himself away. alina girl decides that he might need affection but doesnt feelas tho shes a the right pick for it. and he coulldnt move or walk well for the trip home. so roxy took it onto herself to help him the only way she knew how cause of how he avts and he he feels on thr concept of love

That having multiple partners is perfectly normal outside of being a strict follower of Millis. This is not an "Elinalise" thing, is a "the world of Mushoku Tensei" thing.

Also first and foremost, Roxy, along with everyone else, wanted to HELP Rudy.
Rudy was basically killing himself slowly, though it wasnt obviously shown in the anime. Dude face is the face of someone who has not eaten for a very long time, and all things considered, sex is a stress reliever.

It's not the sex that got him duct taped together, but the talk the next morning. The act was just a reset for his mood, to return him to baseline. Without the talk, he would've easily spiraled again as he realized he'd just added to his troubles.

Anime apparently also cut out alot of content this episode from what I've heard. Apparently the whole group knew and wanted someone to ''heal'' Rudy, even suggesting that Elinalise or even Lillia ''do it''. But it was settled that Roxy should ''do it''.
It's kinda fucked up but in a sense, she did help Rudy. He was falling back into his usual pattern and that helped him break out of it, he might have completely shut himself in otherwise, or worse.
