I got the AVS last November, and I absolutely love it! The NT Mini is pretty cool itself, but the wobbly cartridge slot, along with the lack of a reset button (which is crucial if you want to save things like a season in Tecmo Super Bowl) make the AVS my preferred way to play NES games on HDTVs.

I completely agree! It's a great console and well worth the price. Thanks for watching!

I 100% agree that for the money, the AVS is just a far better value.
The only thing the Analogue NT is going to give you is the option of analogue out (I believe its RGB and maybe component)... which is awesome, but not $800 awesome.
It's also in a metal case which is nice... but you just can't beat the AVS price point.
Have you seen those FPGA Gameboy kits yet? Basically a $120 FPGA gameboy you have to put together yourself.

No I haven't seen that yet, I'll have to check it out. I've got the Analogue Pocket which does a good job with the old handheld consoles (IMO), especially with all the available cores.

If you want that CRT look, as in softer sprites that transform into art, basically the way these games were intended to look, Vs the ugly HD artificial razor sharp square'd sprite-nightmare that you get with AVS than i'd stay clear...Unless you pair it with something like a RetroTINK4K which will allow you to use multiple CRT filters that save the day, including black frame insertion that will reduce OLED motion blur by 50%, which makes motion clarity more CRT-like. It's literally night and day. ;)
That aside, the AVS has a fantastic Scanline depth slider, but NO CRT softness depth slider to go along with it. The latter is crucial imo. Meanwhile, the 'More sprites' option is pretty awesome but it can make games behave incorrectly at times, and i like how the AVS also provides the option to hide the dreaded left side junk-bar in games like Mario 3 & Mega Man 3.
But another thing that sucks about it is that it doesn't have a Multiout cable port for those wanting to either use composite, S-Video or component and hook it up to a CRT TV. Still, paired with a RetroTINK4K on a small QD-OLED TV it's a solid choice if you're willing to spend at least $2500 CAD. Or, just get an 'AV modded' Top loader NES, and a 27-32" Sony WEGA Trinitron(2005) SDTV CRT off market place for MUCH less and call it a day. Both options have their pro's and con's of course! ;)

Thanks for the comments. I think it depends on how far the specific user wants to go with everything. I feel that the AVS is a good value console considering it's cost vs performance.

Hi. With this RetroUSB AVS gaming console, would I be able to play games in full screen via my Lenovo Legion 31.5" monitor?

    • @deadbunnies

You can adjust the size of the video in the video options menu. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for that. I had to check on that before buying it. The one thing I hate the most are the black bars on the side. I recently bought the Analogue Super NT and the Analogue Mega SG on eBay and was very happy to find advanced video options when it comes to enabling full screen gameplay that doesn't cut into the subtitles at the bottom of the screen when playing RPG games. I love it when the screen is stretched and everything appears larger. 😊

She might not win any beauty pageants, but she gets the job done.
