Nope, still want a key. If I just want to roll down the windows and NOT START the engine, I can just put the key to "ON/RUN" and just roll down the windows. Or if i just want to roll the car backwards like say 2 feet without wasting an engine startup, same thing, key in and rotate to "ON/RUN", brake, transmission into neutral (hopefully the shifter is mechanically linked to the transmission), release brake and roll, brake, PARK, key off, done.

This was very interesting. I had no idea. I'm thinking about getting new car. The one I'm looking at is a 2019 model, but it has the push button start and I was a bit leery of it. I was in the "key only" crowd you could say, but that's only because my old car is a 1999!! I'm not sure if I'm totally comfortable with push button start yet, but I'm glad to know more about it. We have a 2014 Honda civic with a traditional key and fob and a lot of times my wife will say that she wants to lock her purse in the trunk and just take her wallet inside the stores so with the push button start she would be letting the fob in the car making it very easy for someone to steal the car. Overall I do not like new cars
Yes, these features are more useful and reliable like automatic transmission, electric steering wheels, digital speedometers and of course the button to start the engine
I prefer the good old manual transmission where I have control on how and when I want to change the gears, an actual steering wheel connected to the wheels, analog speedometers while I see the arrows of the gauges going up, not a screen trying to imitate it or just a number and the good old key where first the engine cranks then starts

A lot of stuff is left out here. When I turn the key on my vehicles, the starter keeps turning over until I let it back off. Push button is not exactly the same in that respect. A FOB for push button start is also constantly sending out that signal, and it can be picked up by those around you. A relay device can send that signal to a second party. It cost me less than $15 to order a 3rd key, have it cut @ a hardware store, and my cheap Mirage programmed the key itself without any programming tools. Less than $15 to make chipped key programmed to my car. How much would a replacement FOB cost? Manual transmission, crank windows, with keys please - sell an affordable trim level. I miss base model cars. They don't exist any more!

    • @MilkyWayGalaxyy

    • @stevenwelchtoyota
      @stevenwelchtoyota  2 роки тому

its actually cheaper and easier for manufacturers to put the upgraded equipment in the vehicles and not to offer the no frills options. The main reason for the lesser items is to give you something to pay more for on the more luxurious trims or division of the company.

They charge you 30$ to replace a 5$ button cell battery in your key fab. at that point I was very fed up and did it myself by prying the fab open. take your car to the garage to have it swapped with a key start and a kill switch. keyless cars can be hacked with a special device. key cars with a kill switch can't be hacked (unless they know where the kill switch is but i doubt it)

With a key, the key has a place to go to, you won't lose the key inside the car, making it impossible to lock the car later. Also, if you have it in the pocket, and someone else in the car decides to take over, and you have to get down, the key is still in your pocket, and the car will turn off in a few meters. I think the push start cars also need a place to keep the key, probably with a magnetic holder for it, so it always stays there when you drive.

once the majority of keyless vehicles are started they dont require the physical presence of the key as its purely mechanical nothing prevents the vehicle from idling revving or changing gear unless the vehicle is shut off and no a signal cannot remotely turn it off unless you have an actual remote start system which is even easier to hack/exploit due to the rf frequency's ( aside from the very very few purely electric vehicles ) this is the exact same bullshit that the old af garage door openers used back in the 1980's all you need to do is spam out various signals and can start most mall parkingl ots with the right knowledge and practice ..

Me personally I will always want a physical key for my ignition. One simple reason. You cannot use your accessories with just a key fob push start car. Meaning a push button start car only does two things on and off. With a physical key that goes into the steering column you have three choices on off accessory. I just rented a 2019 Chevy Silverado with push start and auto stop and I seriously hate both of those features. I got home one day left the windows down in the truck and I had to go out there and just start the truck up so I can roll the windows up that to me is completely half ass backwards. Again some people may like it I'm one of the ones that will never like it. Thank you for your video

NO! In an unintended acceleration scenario where there is some kind of frequency overwhelming your electronics, I want to have the option to PHYSICALLY turn off the ignition. YOU CANNOT DO THAT WITH AN ELECTRONIC SWITCH! Why don't you get this?

Toyota has a override system where if the brake is pushed it overrides the gas. Here is the part you are not thinking about. In both cases for a key or push button it goes through the computer to start or stop the car

@@stevenwelchtoyota So you're saying that the physical switch in the ignition assembly is not a master switch that would shut down the ignition and the fuel pump? It is in my '04. It has computer controlled ignition too. Always works just fine.

This is the biggest tissue of propaganda that I have ever heard, car dealers will say anything to push this junk. Sorry but the truth hurts. I have a computerized vehicle and it is nothing but trouble. The computer components are constantly breaking down and costing thousands to fix them each time. I am replacing my computerized vehicle with a traditional restored classic. Much more reliable!

I have a 2024 toyota camry se.. in ice edge. it came with a key. I did have auto start added to my key fob so I can start from my house. It didn’t bother me it had a key till a few people commented and said they would never buy a car without push button start. I went to the dealership they had a few camrys.. i was not at all familiar with camry trim levels. Usually drive Hondas but I thought the camry was pretty and I know people love them. I wanted heated seats and it has a heated steering wheel. Now I kind of have buyers remorse after learning about the trim levels and that I could have actually built the car I wanted! 🤯I actually love the calvary blue..I saw this car liked it bought it kind of impulsively! I wish I would have researched a bit before jumping into a decision!

Ok guy what do you do if the fob and button stops working at the same time how do you start the car.
I rather have a key at least a key turn guarantee's a start.
Also I hate the way car's are built today.
    2 car bodies put together.
    No frame
    NEW CAR'S SUCK.
Let's go back to body on frame vehicles and key's it's cheaper and easier.
And to disable a vehicle an ignition cut off switch
    Like a Chapman lock.
    Not FIAT Chrysler
The piece of shit Dodge Durango.
    All cars today are garbage.

You are absolutely incorrect. Push Button Start is very dangerous. If you have a Push Button Start automobile and you forget to shut off your car when your car is parked in the garage, your garage will be full of carbon monoxide and carbon monoxide could enter inside your house and you would die. Carbon Monoxide is an invisible killer like coronavirus.
If you have a key to shut off your automobile engine when the parked in the garage, it is much safer because you used the key to shut off the engine. It is a habit.
There are lawsuits pending in courts with cars that came with Push Start and consumers accidently did not shut off the car and the tragedy happened.
Mercedes Benz comes with a removable Push Start Button which can be removed very easily and you can use the key to start your ignition.

You cannot hold the method of start responsible for an accident or the failure of someone to pay attention. What about if someone backs into a car because they didnt see it on the backup camera? Is it the backup cameras fault that they didnt look in the mirror? Technology is advancing and more cars made now are push button start than key. So in reality the less common one is the key start so one could argue that the key start is more dangerous if someone is used to the push button. There are so many things that can be dangerous if used improperly, there is a reason hair dryers have labels saying not to use them in the shower its not for the people who know how to use them. Toyotas have extra safety features that will beep if you walk away with the key wile running, also if you try to lock it while running it will have a long tone that sounds. Education when someone buys a car is so important to keep people safe and that is one of the major reasons I made this channel and I do what I do.
