Even though I'm french, if i'm listening to my head, Ireland is no1, not by a huge margin but they are.
Now, the world cup is in France, and that rainy day performance, especially since the boys seemed a bit tired for the first 3 games, makes me think that the difference would be evened by the world cup start.
And to conclude, NZ and SA are always big threats.
So yeah, the actuel rankings illustrates the hierarchy of world rugby, but the gap between the spots 1 to 4 aren't that significant.

Agreed I think its 55-45 in Frances favour with home advantage but there's really nothing between the two

I think the fact that the world cup will be in France could tip the balance in France's favour and I'm saying this as an Irish man. One thing for certain though, it will be a game that will go right to the wire provided that we meet

A lot of people are getting upset by Danny Care's comment.
Yes factually Ireland is the best team in the world but:
1. Danny Care is totally free to say what he wants.
2. the difference between the top 4 teams is almost non existent.
3. You could make a judgement on the matter looking at other factors, most victory over the last 2 years, momentum created, depth of squad, depths of playing styles, right time to peak etc...
I'm French and I know South Africa and New Zealand will be right up there at the world cup because they always are
Equally I will never ever write England off because they had a game where they didn't turn up.
These french team is the best France has ever produced.
And yet they're still learning.
They're still very young and bound to make mistakes and lose a game at the Aviva stadium against the best ranked team in the world.
That's enough reasons for one to think they're the best team in the world.

Also a tiny bit of respect for a bloke who's played 90 times for his country wouldn't hurt.
A lot of people, not just in England, but South Africa and New Zealand as well, cannot accept the fact that Ireland is the number one ranked team in the world; it offends all their stereotypes. It is much easier for them to accept that France should be the number one, having clearly been a great side for many years.

rankings don't matter. What matters? Titles. Belgium are the same way in football....Kings of friendlies....Ireland still have to prove themselves in the WC.

if you properly watch that ENG vs France game that last try.... France played that move probably 3 other times and it didnt work cause the defensive structure was on point and the 13 made the tackle on the wing wrapping around to receive a pass from dupont...

This is the 6 nations, do they talk about Ireland and France during the southern hemisphere championship! Ireland are 1, France are 2, if you want to be talked about you have to hit those levels. SA and NZ may well win the world cup, top ranked don't win by default!

Well they arent as the rankings show, beating a poor England doesnt make you the best in the world. They had their chance to prove they were number 1 versus Ireland afew weeks back and on that occasion there was only 1 winner.

Believe me, most NH fans are well aware of the All Blacks. The chances of either the ABs or the Boks slipping in unnoticed to the WC are non-existent. I have a bet down already that the All Blacks will beat France in that opening match.

That is impossible, SA, AB, Ireland and France are on the same side of the draw, they can play each other up to the semi but not in the final.

France weren't anywhere as good against Ireland than against England. They started the tournament really flat because of the load of the domestic season, where the Top 14 is substantially more attritional than the URC. Then, they had to cope with the change of refereeing at the breakdown, which now favor attacking teams. Ireland had the best stats for offensive rucks in 2022, France had the best for defensive rucks in 2022, but are no longer allowed to contest and slow the ball as they used to. Which is the main reason they almost got whistled off the park against Italy. Came the Ireland game, they didn't want to concede as many penalties and therefore did not contest enough, allowing Ireland to play their brilliant attacking game. They corrected course from the Scotland game onwards, and then peaked against England.

Did they? We did not see the same game mate. We have 10 minutes playing 14,and a gift try against us. Then Ireland needs the ref again to barely manage a weak English team. The English full back red is a disgrace. You barely scratched 2 victories at home. The SA will beat you, we ll beat NZ then you finish 2nd we finish 1st.
