Madera Caída " La Historia del Pilón "

Filmmaker Carmelo Varela brings to life the story of Manolo's Pilón (Mortar) which he uses to make Mofongo all over the world. It was made from the Guayacán trees that fell after Hurricane María devastated the Island in 2017. Through this short, Orlando el Tornero, takes a tree that was presumed dead and gives it a second life. The entire process of making EL Pilón was shot in his workshop in the town of Naranjito. Turning the tree into an essential tool that carries its story around the world.
