Mi Puerto Rico: El Café
Mi Puerto Rico, El Café is an enthralling short documentary exploring the intricate world of Puerto Rico's coffee industry. The film uses the coffee industry as a lens to reflect on the broader challenges and triumphs of Puerto Rico today.
The documentary takes viewers on a journey through three inspiring narratives that highlight the courageous efforts to maintain and rejuvenate the coffee trade. It begins with Hacienda San Pedro in Jayuya, a rare local farm that not only grows its own coffee but also supplies it directly to its cafes. Then, the story shifts to Café El Coquí in San Sebastían, an iconic coffee brand with a rich 70-year history, navigating the hurdles of depending on government imported coffee. Finally, we discover Forgotten Forest, an initiative by Nuyoricans who, in the wake of Hurricane María, embarked on growing specialty coffee and reaching the highest grade of coffee in Puerto Rican history.
Through these stories, "Mi Puerto Rico, El Café" celebrates the tenacity, dedication, and passion of individuals who are the pillars of Puerto Rico's coffee industry. What do your 6 lbs look like?
