Eyy another dumb drag race ftw! A much FASTER car compared to a SLOWER car. In any case, I will take the Italian anyday. More beautiful than the CT5 and has more soul in my opinion.
A record for biggest gap with a 160 HP advantage seems pretty expected, and not much to brag about. And no mention of the crazy power advantage of the Caddy? It would be the same power advantage between a C8 and a C8 Z06, which anyone would wonder why would you ever think the base C8 would have a chance? It is crazy how close the Quad is at mid corner on the turn around after being so behind of having 160 less HP after a drag race. For journalism purposes, since the Quad was able to catch up so much during braking and cornering, it would amazing to do the same comparison but with a Quad WITH the ceramic brakes since indeed you could spec it that way from factory. I love my ceramic brakes on my Stelvio and why it was a must. Also, again for journalism comparison, a Quad with a tune 2 tune. It would still be down aboit 80 HP, but if a stock one is so close during the turn around a tuned Quad with around 100 more HP would be giving the Caddy a real run even still having a large power advantage. Also, would be neat to see these cars on an actual circuit to see a comparison between a muscle sedan with brand new tech and pretty fancy suspension compared to the decade old scalpel platform with a significant power disadvantage. The BW is a very special platform and the best from Caddy, I think being able to test a Quad that us also the best from the manufacturer and having the best factory brakes available since the BW is the best thing available from its manufacturer. I think the ceramic brake option on a sedan, and even an SUV, is a crazy feat from a manufacturer. I just watched a video off Tiff driving an F40 at a shop that makes a ceramic brake upgrade that still fits behind the small factory F40 wheel. They say they had like a 20% better stopping distance than the factory brakes. PLUS the advantage of consistent stopping performance with no heat fade. So the ceramic brakes are more than just a gimic or only good for doing multiple stops in a row. They remark a 20% shorter braking distance versus stock even before the stocks would be anywhere overheated. And the significant weight reduction in rotating mass to overcome. But thank you for the videos, it always nice to see any content still being made of cars that still suck down petrol and make sound. Also, it would be cool if right after the turn around there was a few cones in a row for a slalom test before the final drag to the finish in the car comparisons to add in more agility testing instead of just a couple drag races with just a 180 degree turn in the middle. I think hard braking after a drag, the a long sustained 180 followed by having to then make the car shift its weight the opposite way after the sustained turn (and back and forth through a short slalom) then a drag home to the finish would be very cool. Lastly, I think automotive journalists should do away with the "I don't know how to drive the car because it doesn't have launch control". Maybe they can just do some practice launches before rolling the camera? And then just mention it doesnt have launch control so it is all on me, but I have practiced a few times to helo give you the best viewer experience I can as an automotive journalist. So many complaints about new cars being too computer controlled, the so many reviewers complaining about cars NOT having computer aided assists. Such as Alfas not having launch control and also turning off the computer assists in Race mode. I think it is pretty cool Alfa (well, the amazing small group that designed the Quad) made it to where if you wanted to be in "party" mode with the loud exaust and the sharpest throttle and braking mapping you can't just drive around being a poser and have to drive with no driver aids.
With the Alfa Giulia currently the slowest selling car in the US you can get a great deal on one and it has a real soul. The Caddy however will demand a markup and that's a shame because it's also a great car.
I owned a 2017 Cadillac CTS-V, and currently own a 2019 Giulia Quadrifoglio. The CTS-V may have had even better performance than The Blackwing, which although it has about 25 hp more, and more torque, is also a couple hundred pounds heavier. Off the line there's no comparison, even without launch control, because of the supercharged engine compared to twin turbo, and it seems that the Quadrifoglio ZF transmission limits response off the line, although maybe not in race mode. They also should have disabled all the traction and stability control in the Cadillac to be comparable to the QV, if they can do that now. The CTS-V, with the Recaro racing seats (I don't know what the Blackwing has), loses in comfort, and also nimbleness, road feel, and steering response and feel. They are comparing the Cadillac to a car in a lower weight, size and power class. I think I also read that the Quadrifoglios from 2020 on are a little slower in acceleration, at least in some road tests, and they also changed the steering from 2 turns lock to lock to 2.2 turns, which may have no practical difference.
This wasn’t a race, it was a demolition. Wrestling fans would call this a squash match. But you all yelling about “WHY NOT CT4-V!!!!” in the comments are missing the point. Car journalists can only access the cars in the review fleets, I blame GM more than Edmunds for not making this a more fair fight.
I'd like to see a series where they hot-lap these things...not on their autocross course, but their test track. Not sure why they put a stop watch to everything BUT their actual race test track...
After that mismatch, the Alfa Romeo driver gets served a nice cold dish of Gaper-roni. The Cadillac driver had to adjust his rear view mirror to keep the bright green Alfa in sight!
Im surprised no one is talking about the 113 trap speed... That is way too low for a 505hp car. It should be in the upper teens. Maybe the Guilia QV is one of those cars that loses a ton of power in the heat.. Either way, it would've lost, but something's definitely wrong. Fun race anyway!
I mean, if the Alfa had 640hp, it would be a different race. The HP difference is well over a 100hp. I love both cars though. The Blackwing is a beast.
2:28 - How can you say that CT5-V is far more modern than that Quadrifoglio???? It has a 6.2 liter engine with less than 108hp per liter!!! While the Alfa is 174hp per liter!!! At less than half the engine size, is the Alfa at half the speed of the CT5-V?? I guess not... Giving a bigger engine to a car is just stupid... make it more MODERN by making it more efficient. At 2.9 liters the CT5-V would only have 312hp... while the Alfa at 6.2 liters would have 1079hp!!!
I'm pretty sure you have to get some heat in the carbon ceramic brakes before they perform optimally. They are pretty useless unless you track it and have seriously deep pockets.
A quick Google search shows that the price MSRP difference is only $14k lol. Idk where some people are getting a $45k difference. If it's from the dealer, that's on the dealer, not on Edmunds lol
Little disappointed in the fact that throughout the course, you guys were extolling the virtues of the Cad, but no mention of the 168hp advantage! Let alone the torque.
Before watching - oh... tough match up. If I had to pick I would say the CT5 takes it. The alfa should do well almost everywhere, but so should the caddy, and the extra 100+ horsepower should allow it to pull ahead on the final straight. also, if it's the 10 speed auto, the Alfa stands no chance. I would rather owns the manual, but I believe the gap between the two transmission types is significant.
I would love to see this race in an actual race track instead of drag race im sure the Alfa would have done way better considering the Alfa is a v6 and the Cadillac is a v8.

You should have had them do lap times around a circuit, the Alfas lighter weight would make the competition a little more even
Love the looks of the Alfa. That Verde color is fantastic....but we all know the answer its always going to be "Merica baby. BW for the win!!!
Why would you turn off traction control if you don’t have launch control?
CT5-V BW has cemented itself as a future classic with the 6MT. Alfa needs to bring the manual over before Stellantis kills off the brand.
Now compare the Giulia to the CT4V Blackwing.
The Blackwing is a beast.
need to redo this with CT4-V Blackwing (472HP) or the non blackwing CT5-V (360HP)
Ill take the Alfa Romeo QV anyday over the blue car
Damn didn’t realize the CT5 V BW was a $132k vehicle. That $40k plus difference is significant. This wasn’t even a race
CT-4 is the right one
Can we do the Quad Stelvio verses something? 😊 Like the Jag SVR.
I have to call out the fact that this is an absolutely unfair comparison. The Giulia is an M3 competitor and the CT5-V Blackwing is an M5 competitor.
Now try with a 6 speed ct5-v blackwing the thing with no lift shift can beat the auto :)
Why don’t you guys have a 2025 CT5 V BW yet??
A quick Google search shows that the price MSRP difference is only $14k lol. Idk where some people are getting a $45k difference. If it's from the dealer, that's on the dealer, not on Edmunds lol
I hate that yall keep showing the quad in bad light. It’s like 505-520 hp with no traction control whatsoever in its race mode.
Next up in our mismatch series a Z06 vs an Audi S6!
Alfa usually run 3.6 & 11.9-12.0 in the quarter so surface is the blame but it would’ve lost either way
I really thought this would be more of a close-to-competition but man, what that LT4 just pulls insane and the Alfa suffers from it´s bad launch..
Nice one
Little disappointed in the fact that throughout the course, you guys were extolling the virtues of the Cad, but no mention of the 168hp advantage! Let alone the torque.
Before watching - oh... tough match up. If I had to pick I would say the CT5 takes it. The alfa should do well almost everywhere, but so should the caddy, and the extra 100+ horsepower should allow it to pull ahead on the final straight.
also, if it's the 10 speed auto, the Alfa stands no chance. I would rather owns the manual, but I believe the gap between the two transmission types is significant.
Ok let’s make this more even ! CTS has to remove the SC belt and run the Alfa again.
Giulia GTAm vs. CT5-V in Nürburgring! Oops. 🙋🏽♂️
The U-Drag is an awesome concept like a REALLY good 3 in 1. But you gotta do better with the match ups. Keep it up but do better💙
Run an AMG GT63S or a M5 Comp in place of that Alpha. It’d be so much more interesting.
You could also just go to the tuner .. put the 1500$ and even the hp and make it more fun
My God. This Alfa, seen from the side, is absolutely gorgeous. 🍀🍀🍀
Unfair comparison,
V8 vs V6 !!
2.9 tc vs 6.2 sc !!
I would love to see this race in an actual race track instead of drag race im sure the Alfa would have done way better considering the Alfa is a v6 and the Cadillac is a v8.
I can see the pain in Jonhathans face that he's not in a BMW. Rename the channel to BMW's only and get back to what makes cucs happy!
Rimac vs Alfa next!!!
Maybe try making a corner next time?
Just why? Way too much of a difference between the two to make it close.
Why the CT5-V Blackwing against the AR and not the CT4-V Blackwing?
