Bobcat populations are coming on strong so I guess that will be another change around here. Between them and the Coyotes it has to effect the deer populations. Coyote hunting is open year round but Bobcats are still protected. They will be until DNR figures out how they can make money on them. Sorry, I get a little pissed thinking about it sometimes lol. Thanks for the video! I hope the wolves come around for you! You and Cindy have a good new years and watch out for the other guy!!
It is interesting to watch. I think in this area, it's been several bad Winters in a row mostly to blame? This year has been mild, I hope it helps a little. I hope you have a great day and a Happy New Year!!!
Thank you for your videos, all the best for the next year. As far as coyotes, I do hear them often traveling in the back fields and bush. I love their chatter and yips at night. Sometimes they come close to the barn ( droppings). I put my chickens inside for the winter where they are safe. Several years ago a neighbour lost a horse to coyotes.
Yeah we put our snow chains in a few times a year. Never fun to put them on but it’s nice to have them when you need them. Seems like the first time it takes a while to figure them out. But after that you get faster. Stay safe. Happy New Year! I hope this year is a better year for all. It’s been a tough one. Wish the trapping season was better for you. Thanks for sharing. Take care, see ya :)
Probably the best talk I've ever listened to over a coffee. "I don't blame 'em" says a lot about you. I could list off a half dozen or more nuggets you dropped of reality, fact, truth in that 21 mins of you just bein' you. I'll stop because people must get sick o' readin' me praising you up, lol. I do wish you'd hit some worthwhile fur though, a shame that so much is put out with so little return. Thank you. You and Miss Cindy have a peaceful day.

I LOVE your videos, and I appreciate the talks. I’ve been sick, but feeling much better. It’s been in the upper 70’s here. Happy New Year’s to you and Cindy. Thank you, my friend.
Good Morning!!! Looks like Hillbilly got dumped on !!! Watching radar out there. See lot of snow. I' saw a thumbnail for Red & Gray wolves in Florida. 😮Never heard that in my life down there. I'll check it later. Going to town today. I went out once this year. To many people out there. I went but had 2 hunters walk all around me. Packed up went home. Good luck on the hunt!!!
Good Morning! He does get more snow than we do. He lives in Western Idaho and we live in Eastern Idaho. Most of the storms coming off the ocean dump their snow on him going over the mountains before it gets to us. Too many people hunting does take the fun out of it. If you go, Good Luck!
Afternoon👋🏻 I hope I never have to put another set of chains on 😫 I only had to do it twice & that was two too many times for me 😅 A lot of people used them including my late husband. I saved up my $$$ and bought me a set of heavy duty studded snow tires & put weight in my truck bed, & carried 2 fifty lbs bags of cat litter. The only time I ever got stuck was during the blizzard of ‘93 & nobody was going anywhere during that. Happy New Year 🎆🎊🎈 ❤🙏🏻❤️
Tire ⛓️= that item categorized as better safe then sorry 😞 😢 As for snow machine, in my hay day I own two of the Skidoo 2 track one ski beast. Heavy to manipulate but dang handi. I have seen yotes actually work in packs even on pronghorn Mountain man
Exactly! After sliding off the road and rolling down the mountain, it's a little too late. They say they don't pack up, but I've seen it too. Back in the 1980's, I saw 7 coyotes together running as a pack in Colorado. They looked full grown and not just pups that hadn't split up yet. Coyotes are adaptable and change to fit their needs.
Man, i love being out cutting for sign in the snow! Im not trapping or hunting this season but i still like getting out and seeing whats going on in the woods.
Good mornin and many blessings to all. Most people in today's world will never understand how much 'GOOD" a hunter or trapper does for the population of certain animals. Because they have a mind set of crazy people running around the woods blasting away at everything. Hunters/Trappers have and will always be the best conservators of a species. It amazes me how little "knowledge" has become important in the human beings of today. It's kinda like they want to stay ignorant and shy away from fact. Yeah, I'm back to rambling on again. I'm not in the hospital Gary. Took 12 hours at the ER but they got me breathing good again with a bunch of Steroids and some great care from my favorite nurse. Thank you Lord. Happy New Year to all.
GOOD! I'm happy to hear that!!!! A cute nurse makes a lot of difference too! Ha! You are right about hunters and trappers too. A few bad ones ruin the image of the rest, but most do these things because we love the wild and the animals.
@@MuskratOutdoors Yes Sir, She's an awesome lady but sadly she's married. LOL Thanks for the kind words Gary. Means a lot to me and I do appreciate it. Have an awesome day!!!!
Good morning 🌞 Muskrat, Happy New Year 🎊🎈🎆. I sure hope you folks have a more fruitful year ahead, even if you do have empty traps. I just recently started watching Mark J Larson, he sure does think a lot of you. He seems to be a pretty darn good trapper. I’m wondering if the fur trade out here north of me is a little better than out in your area. They sure do a lot of trapping of coyotes and other small animals. The other thing I’ve noticed about them is that they have many many traps out, but they are quite a bit younger than you and I. Another fella I like watching is Vinnie Verdin, Pelican Bones Outdoors. He does a lot of hunting, fishing, and trapping in Louisiana. Those crazy Cajuns eat almost everything they kill down there 😂. I was watching him yesterday and he was eating bobcat and said it was pretty good, fox was better though. Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful day and watch your topknots my friends 👍💪🙌🙏🌈✌️🐽🐷🐖
Good Morning and Happy New Year! Mark is a great guy. I like his videos too! I've had Bobcat and Mountain Lion, its white meat and a lot like a cross between pork and turkey. It's good. Never tried a fox though! HA!
You are a true trapper my friend sometimes it’s not even worth doing it if they’re only worth a couple of dollars and there are people out there that just do it for the fun of killing them unfortunately😊
Good morning young man. Happy Birthday JC. Happy New Years Eve. Glad you didn't run into Grumpy. I see the dog's toy takes the spot of the chainsaw wrench. LOL Have a great day
Good morning! I’m sorry you didn’t have anything in your traps; but I don’t think you really expected anything, considering there have been no tracks. Here’s wishing you and Cindy a very Happy New Year!
I'm a retired truck driver! I was driving up Cabbage once and was almost to the top and came around the corner and there was a semi across all the lanes! I pulled over on the shoulder and stopped! The truck and trailer immediately started sliding across the freeway! It wasn't moving to fast so i started throwing on the chains! Its tricky doing it on a moving truck😮 !! Lots of pucker power there!!!! I got them on before i hit the other shoulder! The guy that spun out was from Texas and didn't even have chains! Despite all the signs of them being required he was clueless! I gave him a spare set so he could get out of there, and he said he was going back to Texas! We spent the night at the rest stop on the top of the mountain and by the morning there was 16 inches of fresh snow on top of the ice! It was interesting driving down the other side of the mountain!!! I saw a lot of elk around there!!
I feel for ya putting chains on. Coyote numbers herein s.w. Wyoming seem to be down too. I guess I've blamed it on mange, maybe I'm wrong .But the rabbit cycle seems to be coming back up, and that seems to bring higher coyote numbers. I been kinda missing seeing them
Same here. It's strange really. Around the house, we have a lot of rabbits, but I'm not seeing that many up in the woods. Some years we can about equal the amount of meat we get from a deer with rabbits. We used to see coyotes in the hay fields here a lot, and hear them at night, but we haven't in a long time now. Same with the fox.
Hello muskrat I know the feeling I'm discouraged myself, screwed up my knee barely can walk haven't been able to deer hunt an we kinda depend on that meat, hopefully things get better for us all.good luck.
That's not good. We have the same kind of luck it sounds like. Every year it seems like something gets in the way of plans. Filling your freezer is important, I hope you get healed up enough to do it.
It is illegal here to use tire chains ⛓️ only mailmen and maybe plow trucks 🛻, but we can’t we used to use them all the time, but now for whatever reason we can’t, maybe it was because they say it is hard on the pavement, ya got me I don’t know 🤷♂️ we had rain like crazy for the last few days too now all my snow is gone it is almost 40 here too! Have a blessed day! My friend! 🇺🇸🤠😂👀🎄❄️✝️🦌🏡 Happy New Year Trump yeeeehaaaa
Does appear the animals are scarce in the area, we are the same here. Don't see large game much and smaller animals tracks are rare to see too. Might have to start trappin' mice. We still have coyotes that wake me up at night with their singing. Your calling coyotes story reminded me of an event my sister went to in Yuma I think it was. It was Howling at the Moon and thousands of people attend it every year. She is there for the January 13th howling and seniors kegger, lol. Sounds like a lot of fun as it's a festival too. Tonight seems like a good night fur howling at the moon, Happy New Year to you and Cindy. 🎉
Good morning!i understand, you dont like chains😅i put mine on front also.they are a rough ride and i dont think they are good on your tires and running gear.they do however provide traction and safety.i havent been seeing as much coyote sign either.almost seems like they disappeared in some spots.thanks again and a have a good one!
Good Morning! What do you think happened to the coyotes? It's strange to me. Coyote prices have been high until Canada Goose Company stopped using them, but I don't think that did it? Chains are a real pain, but they do work good.
@MuskratOutdoors i think it was disease or something because they can pretty much survive everything else.havent heard of people overhunting or anything
"Endothermic" and "exothermic": chemistry terminology, one means absorbing heat and the other means exuding or putting out heat. I always get mixed up on which one does what. Why does it "warm up" sometimes before it snows? (or warm up immediately after a snow) These are things I have personally observed. Also, I have seen it snow way above freezing temps: like above 40 degrees!!!!!!
Yeah, it's strange the way it works....cloud cover maybe warming it? The temp drops when the Sun comes up too. Seems like it should get warmer, but it doesn't. Same with the Winter Solice...."When the days get longer, the cold gets stronger" Weird....
@@MuskratOutdoorsIt has been a very long time since I have heard that, but it is true. Delayed reaction of mother nature? I have noticed over the years that is usually what happens, sometimes we get a "January thaw" if we have a lot of cold in Nov and Dec.
@@MuskratOutdoors When the sun leaves at night, cloud cover seems to keep it warmer at times and if the wind blows the temp does not vary as much. (over night)
I think it's the surfactant in the "water" that helps it snow above 0°c. Our roads were the so slippery even chained up you could slip. Strange weather.
It is! I have always thought of fox as farmland animals, not mountain timber critters. From what I've seen on my trail cameras though it seems there are a LOT of them up high.
It did, but if the fur report can be believed, maybe not this year? No, that time of year the Fairgrounds are starting up and there's too much to get done. Also, gas would eat up any profit. This year, I have nothing anyway....15 muskrats and a raccoon.....$30 if I'm lucky.
A good rock crawler has locking differentials, which makes it a true four-wheel-drive, and they possibly air down their tires to give them a better footprint but they are amazing and expensive toys. Personally, I prefer steak, can only afford one or the other.
Not sure what they are this year but last year $5.00 for a coyote - they get baby calves out in our country just like you said keep mom busy and the others come in and get it - so we pop anytime we get a chance
Terrible prices the last few years. Yeah, they can be really bad especially if there's too many. Anymore here, there's not much of anything....Happy New Year!!!
I agree with you on the predation of coyotes on livestock. Here the eastern coyotes got wolf genes & are called coywolves. They often hunt in packs and are a real problem on caribou calf predation. In fact, they do bring down adult caribou which I witnessed. Moose mothers are very protective & moose calf predation by coyotes is rare. Bears are the biggest predators of moose & caribou. The govt. here got a $25 bounty on coyotes & a hunter/ trapper can keep the pelt for sale. Calling them in is interesting & they do come straight at you on a run. It is a popular sport & can be rewarding.
I've heard about those coywolves. We don't have them here as far as I know, but I did catch a coyote years ago that might have been. It was big, with big feet and a wide muzzle. It did look wolf like, but a for sure coyote. A $25 bounty + fur price would be worth while.
Drape the chains over the rear tires first, take care to get them centered on the tire, you want the chains touching the ground in front of the tire. Then pull ahead with the truck carefully till the front of the chains are now at the rear of the tire, fasten the chains and your set. Hope this helps!
@@robertmclean9737 That's the way we have done it in the past. I usually don't get them as tight that way though? Thanks for the info, but that block seems to work better for me. Anyway I've tried to do it has been a pain. I really don't enjoy it.
Good morning ol boy. You know, it's best that you stop talking about him, it doesn't reflect on you very well. I eventually got tired of listening to Kevin complaining about his trolls, it was non stop. I quit watching him. It's good to know when enough is enough. It looks like your animals are in a natural slump this year. There's lots of reasons, illness, lots of hunters and trappers and the list goes on. Lol, it's my luck that I started watching you a couple of months ago. That's ok, you're a very likeable person and fun to listen to. REMEMBER THIS, variety is good to keep people coming back and you've done a great job supplying variety, i.e. working on different things. Keep doing what you're doing.
Thank you very much! Yeah, I shouldn't have ever mentioned that guy. It's hard not to do sometimes though. It is really frustrating. Oh well I guess, it's just the way it is and I need to work around it. Next year, hopefully I can do a few things differently. I had a great season last year, it's not my turn this year. Speaking of which, Happy New Year!!!! If you go out, be careful!
@MuskratOutdoors Lol. I think that you misunderstood. Talking about him was OK, you and I shared some constructive ideas. The point is you knew when to stop talking about it.
Rabbit cycle? I see that with the coyotes and rabbits here in Colorado, about 7 years. They discretely poisoned all the coyotes and we got overrun by rabbits also -- the coyotes wre following kids walking to school. So they messed with the seven year cycle that had existed for centuries here.

I need to fix those Jeep Brakes! Then I could chain it up and just leave them on all Winter. Heater ain't too hot in that one though!
Thank you very much! That helps a lot really. There's a lot of negative comments that I try to ignore, but sometimes they eat at ya. After awhile, it takes a lot of the fun out of anything you do. We hope you have a Happy New Year!!
Yeah I agree about Gary's "I don't blame him", but that doesn't excuse the guy for being a A_ole from Ioway...
I LOVE your videos, and I appreciate the talks. I’ve been sick, but feeling much better. It’s been in the upper 70’s here. Happy New Year’s to you and Cindy. Thank you, my friend.
@@Oldminerdon True. No excuse.
Great video as usual!
THANKS!
Good morning Muskrat. 😊
Good Morning Amye.
Happy New Year 🎆🎊🎈 ❤🙏🏻❤️
I don't blame you! I hate messing with them! Happy New Year!!!
Good morning.
Good Morning!
Morning Gary and Happy New Year!!!
Good Morning! Happy New Year to you too!
thanx 4 the video Gary.... GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ❤🙏
Thank you! God blees you Folks too! Happy New Year!
Good Morning Muskrat, Hopefully the New Year will be a good on e for us all. We shall see. Thanks. 😊
Good morning! I hope so too. Happy New Year!
Tire ⛓️= that item categorized as better safe then sorry 😞 😢 As for snow machine, in my hay day I own two of the Skidoo 2 track one ski beast. Heavy to manipulate but dang handi. I have seen yotes actually work in packs even on pronghorn
Mountain man
Hello Muskrat! Happy New Year to you and your family! Have a Blessed day!!
Hello! Happy New year to you too!
Man, i love being out cutting for sign in the snow! Im not trapping or hunting this season but i still like getting out and seeing whats going on in the woods.
So do I. It's really the fun part of doing this. You want to catch something, but that ends up being work!
Happy New Year Gary and Cindy hope you catch a wolf in the new year
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Me too! Thank you!
Thanks for the video Muskrat. Be safe and have a great day brother 👍
Thank you too! Happy New Year!
Good morning! Been busy myself, wondering how the clutch on the tractor went? I have the same tractor. Wondering how it acted after repairs? Thanks
Good Morning! It's still in the shop. I don't think they have even started it yet. I need to go ask.
Mornin brother Happy New Year t you and Cindy👍👍
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
HA!
Happy new year bud! Hope you have a great one!
Happy New Year! You Too!
You are a true trapper my friend sometimes it’s not even worth doing it if they’re only worth a couple of dollars and there are people out there that just do it for the fun of killing them unfortunately😊
Thank you. The killing part is the part I don't enjoy. Kind of necessary though if you hunt or trap.
Happy New YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS!
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU TOO!
Happy new year. , love The ride along.
Happy New Year! Thanks!
Good morning young man.
Happy Birthday JC.
Happy New Years Eve.
Glad you didn't run into Grumpy.
I see the dog's toy takes the spot of the chainsaw wrench. LOL
Have a great day
Good Morning! Ha! That rubber chicken I actually use for calling coyotes! My friends say I'm choking my chicken.....Ha!
Good morning! I’m sorry you didn’t have anything in your traps; but I don’t think you really expected anything, considering there have been no tracks. Here’s wishing you and Cindy a very Happy New Year!
Good Morning! Finding tracks right at the start of the season gave me high hopes, but I haven't seen any since. Not my turn this year is all.....
Good morning muskrat and Cindy have a great day
Morning! Hope you have a Great Day too. Happy New Year too!
Good morning! It's too bad you aren't even seeing any wolf tracks, but I'm sure the deer & elk are breathing easier this winter!
Good Morning! Hopefully the Winter will stay mild. The deer and elk really need a break. Fewer wolves will help, but Winter gets a lot of them too.
WOW! That would NOT be fun!
@MuskratOutdoors it wasn't!!
Truck drivers hate throwing iron.
And gold miners hate slappin' iron but we do it if we have to.
I bet so! Especially dual tire chains.
That sure would be discouraging.Good. Luck !
It really is......Thank you!
I'll say Happy New Year but that remains to be seen.
Very true! There's a lot that can go wrong World wide. If you go out, be careful! No fun starting out the year in Jail, hospital or morgue!
Good Morning 🌄
GOOD MORNING!!!
Good morning again. Keep your chin up👍. Take care.🇺🇲🌲🔥🔪
Good Morning! Yeah, it's frustrating, but that's part of it!
Wow Gary wish I had a building for putting my tire chains on must be nice lol
It is nice! I never did either until now. The Fairgrounds just built that building about 2 months ago.
I hope the chains helped! I really wish you would find some wolf tracks! Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year my friend!
Thank you Mark. I hope so too. Happy New Year!!!
Really? Illegal to use tire chains??? I NEED TO MOVE THERE!!! HA!
Happy New Year! Trump is almost there....keep yer fingers crossed!
It is getting harder to find the critters, that's for sure. I'm not sure what has happened, but it's really kind of sad.....
Happy New Year Cindy & Gary !! All the best in 2025!!
Thank you! You too! Happy New Year!!!
Good morning, hope u get some fur
Good Morning! Thanks, me too...
I had no luck fisher trapping this season so I kinda feel the same way you do. Happy new year to you and Cindy
Sorry to hear that! It's still fun, but you kind of want to win sometimes too. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
@@two-strokesmoke7289 I hope so.
I think it's the surfactant in the "water" that helps it snow above 0°c. Our roads were the so slippery even chained up you could slip. Strange weather.
Interesting that foxes are up in the mountains like that I have always seen them in the lower country myself anyway great video thanks
It is! I have always thought of fox as farmland animals, not mountain timber critters. From what I've seen on my trail cameras though it seems there are a LOT of them up high.
Happy New Years Eve! Be safe out there!! 🎉🎉🎉
Happy New Years to you too! We aren't big party go'ers.....should be home by 9pm at most. Be careful too!
@@MuskratOutdoors 😊👍
Y'all have a happy new year and be safe, you definitely need to look at money being spent to do what we like .
Happy New Year to you too! Entertainment of any kind isn't cheap, but there is a limit.
Micro farms or self proclaimed home stead's don't count!!! The free buffets!!
Good mornin'.
Good Morning!!!!
A nicely put up coyote 🐺 brings a decent price. Are you going to the fur sale in glenns ferry?
It did, but if the fur report can be believed, maybe not this year? No, that time of year the Fairgrounds are starting up and there's too much to get done. Also, gas would eat up any profit. This year, I have nothing anyway....15 muskrats and a raccoon.....$30 if I'm lucky.
A good rock crawler has locking differentials, which makes it a true four-wheel-drive, and they possibly air down their tires to give them a better footprint but they are amazing and expensive toys. Personally, I prefer steak, can only afford one or the other.
Ha! Me too! Those things are fun, but expensive. Pretty scary too. People want to see what their limits are until it wrecks.
I was under the jeep today drip twice in ear once in eye never just the cheek so aggravating 😂
HA! Jeeps don't leak.....they just mark their territory!
You’re a good guy!
Thank you!!!
Fox are quicker than yotes I've seen wolves chasing yotes
Maybe? I haven't seen it, but I've found wolf tracks and half eaten coyotes. They do catch and eat them.
Pretty up there bro
It sure is. Snowing again now.
Practice makes perfect I guess, I really do not like tire chains either; but, they have got me out of a few predicaments.......
It does. They work great, but I sure don't like putting them on.
The way you chain up, no wonder you don't like them, they are hard on your truck too.
Is there an easier way?
That was quick! Cheers!?
Drape the chains over the rear tires first, take care to get them centered on the tire, you want the chains touching the ground in front of the tire. Then pull ahead with the truck carefully till the front of the chains are now at the rear of the tire, fasten the chains and your set. Hope this helps!
@@robertmclean9737 That's the way we have done it in the past. I usually don't get them as tight that way though? Thanks for the info, but that block seems to work better for me. Anyway I've tried to do it has been a pain. I really don't enjoy it.
Mornin'!
Haven't needed chains in Iowa since the 70's. I bought studded tires to avoid putting on chains recently.
Got rid of my snowmobile in the 90's because there's just not enough snow in Iowa anymore. I switched to atv's.
Happy birthday JC❤🎉
GOOD MORNING!
Good Idea!
Front left is inside out.
Might be. I like the ones with the ice cleats better. Can't get them on wrong....
@MuskratOutdoors
Lol.
Maybe? This year voles and packrats have been way up. I thought rabbits too, but I'm not really seeing that many?
Coyotes are not conservationists.
No they are not. Too many can be a big problem, but there doesn't seem to be many here anymore.
