      They aren't my all time faves, but I give BIG props to TOTO for their resilience in the face of adversity and tragedy and their raw and undeniable musical abilities. Not many people know this, but when Gary Wright's "dream weaver" became a hit, most of that lp was done with no bass, no guitar, and only a few stand in musicians on a few parts. Gary Wright did most of it himself on keyboards, and during the time in the early 1970's when people thought "frankenstein" era Edgar Winter or Keith Emerson from ELP were the only ones who had developed keyboards that could be worn like a guitar, Gary had also done this too. When "dream weaver" became a huge hit, and that lp was blowing minds, Gary had to do the obvious, and follow up the lp with a tour, but he had no musicians, and had to find some GOOD ONES in a hurry...so who did he hire? -the young Porcaros, who did a fantastic job by the way. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, and those brothers were LEGENDARY...and deserved every bit of it. Rock on TOTO!

    When I was a little girl, I had SUCH a crush on Michael Neismith! I still have an affinity for men with a slight southern drawl. The Monkees were my life from 5-7years old until I discovered Mick Jagger, to the horror of my mother. The Monkees are STILL fun to watch. 😊

    In Italy The Monkys started to be aired on early 70s, I was a kid and used to watch it every week. I loved very much that show, I loved songs, characters, plots and of course them: the "monkys".My heart is broken knowing three of four are already dead.

    My brother lived 3 doors down from Davy Jones. He was absolutely irritated that the cars that lined the street had no feelings for the neighbors and all the driveways on the street were blocked. My brother worked 84 hours weekly and for 3 days, couldn't even get in and out of his driveway. So, he strategically parked so at least 2 cars couldn't get out of their spaces blocking his driveway.
    He felt sympathy, but was appalled at the people with zero respect for Davys neighbors. He had talked with Davy many times over the years.

Mt sister started dating one of Johns relatives. That made me like a cousin but more like a third cousin . They came to our house and I have guitars and a snare and bass drum. All autographs.

    The more I hear about record companies the more I despise them. To have someone pour their heart and soul in their music only to be told it now belongs to this entity, and it is no longer yours is horrible. Then to hear of the millions of dollars that are withheld from bands is pure evil. Just look at what happened to that beautiful lead singer of Bad Finger, he isn't the first and sadly will not be last to take their lives over what they feel is their failure.

    • @HarryLime-ge6dc
      @HarryLime-ge6dc 8 місяців тому

      They were definitely a predatory entity. But, they were the only game in town. Now, there are no record sales because your music is given away as promo to sell concert tickets, but live performance is only lucrative now for megastars like Taylor Swift or other pop acts. The music business has to reinvent itself but isn't sure how. Meanwhile, affordable technology has made it very possible to record a really good recording at home. The power is in the hands of the artists now. All that's missing is an avenue and means of dependable exposure and sales. When this happens, artists will be able to hold on to the majority of receipts, instead of mere pennies on the dollar while, due to usury, the record company kept the vast majority of net profits, while the artists are legally bound to this economic servitude for the length of their contracts. But in the meantime, we play because we couldn't imagine NOT playing and composing.

    I grew up with Karen Carpenter. She was only 8 years old than me. I loved her music because it was easy to sing to. I new Karen's mother hated her as my mother did me. I too became anorexic like Karen and it is all about control. I am just under 5'4: and had gained some weight as puberty hit and I was developing but things were so hard in my family life terrible abuses and our family constantly moving that controlling what I ate and when I ate it was the only control I had in my life. My Junior year in High school I weighed about 134. The abuses at home and bullying at school were closing in on me. What few times I found my voice and started to speak with someone outside of my home for help always backfired on me. Someone would, totally out of concern for me but not realizing this is not going to go well, would tell my mother what little I told them. My mother would confront me in such a way that I knew to keep my mouth shut. So the only thing I had left was to control what I ate. I had no other freedoms but that. I lost 35 pounds in 2 and 1/2 months and kept losing. I got down to 104 lbs. My mom thought I looked great. My sisters were jealous of me weight loss, I actually got a boyfriend from a rival high school. I'd tell him I'm too fat and he say no your not I can feel everyone of your ribs I really did still feel like I was fat. I had quit eating It had gotten so bad that I actually forgot to eat, until I would faint. Then I would crawl to my bed and over up because I was freezing. I had a small jar of peanut butter and using my finger dip out a little at a time until I no long felt faint. A teacher in High school at first was complimenting me on my loss and how I did it. I told her I was roller skating every weekend and I wasn't buying the fundraiser donuts the Pep Club was selling in the morning. Both were true but I was doing other things to restrict my eating. Without making a big deal out of it, she started having me eat my lunch with her everyday. She never pushed but she would monitor what I ate and somehow would get me to eat just one more bite i the form of a treat. etc. Before that started I had gotten down to 102. Buy the end of my senior year she had gotten me back up to 112 and I stayed at that weight for years until I got married and got pregnant. After I had my healthy son, I had been told by the nurses that the longer I nursed the more quickly I'd lose my pregnancy weight. I ended up nursing my son until his 2nd birthday. and I lost everything I had gained and was back down to 115.
    I'm no longer anorexic. I contracted cancer and an eye disease and several other autoimmune diseases, the eye disease came first and heavy doses of steroids saved my eyes but screwed up my metabolic rate, then cancer and chemo and now everything is off. Life's the shit. It really saddens me that Karen had no on in her life to really love her. Her brother always came off and caring of her. Sorry so long. We'll see if UA-cam lets me post this.

    • @karenmckay5701
      @karenmckay5701 2 роки тому +1

      @ToniHunterOne, I'm so sorry you went through so much. I can't imagine a mother being so cruel to her own child. Where that child grows up without the love a mom is suppose to have for her child. I also loved Karen Carpenters music. To bad she didn't experience true love from her mom. Anorexia is a serious mental disorder. I have seen young girls waste away to nothing because they think they are to fat. It sounds like you have beaten this horrible disease, could your health issues be long term effects from that. I was always dieting all my life, I wouldn't eat for days or take laxatives. Drink water for a week. It's society, they expect women to be thin to be beautiful. I am older now and I don't worry about my weight. And alot of the girls I know have curves. They are healthy and happy. I hope you find some peace in your life. Be the person that isn't the way your mom was. Your child's future depends on the kind caring person that you have become.

    I have a suggestion for a topic. "Songs that better live than the original studio versions." You have the obvious ones of Peter Frampton's Baby I Love Your Way and Cheep Tricks I Want You To Want Me, but I thought of the idea when hearing the studio version of Perter Allen's I Go To Rio. Dosen't compare to the live version.

      All I can think of is that they might be jealous. Jeff Porcaro was a master drummer from an early age. Blame his genes from his drummer Dad, he hit the groove consistently. Steve Lukather is still in demand as a lead guitar. Just fabulous! Every one in the band was top notch.
