The majority of the Roth era of Van Halen is when they really weren't that rich . The Halen brothers didn't move out of their Pasadena home till the third album because they didn't have any money to move out . Their original contract with Warner Brothers was a high interest neverending loan . Their first royalty checks were about $90 dollars a piece . Yeah , ninety dollars . I think because of this Edward was really money crazy because all the songs were his . Im not justifying what happened exactly between him and Mike and if it was that bad , Mike should have just left the band . And again , the majority of the Roth era they didn't see any real money till Diver Down or 1984 . Valerie Bertinelli bought the house where 5150 is at . The studio was built with older recording equipment because that's all Edward could afford at the time . Something the newer Van Halen fans should think about is all political bullshit artists have to put up with in that Rock and Roll Hall of fame . Artists gace a limited number of seats and they have to pay for all that crap . Any fan of the original band could care less if the original members showed up for that fake shit show .
You're right, Edward's drive for success likely stemmed from those lean years. It's a shame things deteriorated between him and Mike, but ultimately, Mike should have prioritized his own well-being.
Which rock band do you think has the most tragic downfall?
