    so amazing!!! thank you, I have avoided knits for my entire sewing life, because I'm not a fan of zig zag, this tutorial has literally changed my sewing game, me made knickers here I come!!! Beautifully presented, clearly explained, wonderful.

    Very helpful. I kept thinking you needed two bobbins to see with a twin needle. Thanks for showing me how it works. Also the idea of using the bobbin spools as cotton reels, was a revelation l and well worth knowing.

    Been 8yrs since I sew. Glad I came in here and learned how I had forgotten so many steps. I feel like I’m back to the beginner. Your video is very clear. Thank you. Now I need to put my hands back on sewing. I was worried that I will have to buy two threads but you showed us to use one of the bobby-pins for the other thread and it sure saved a lot of money.

    I want to thank you for this tutorial. I was finally able to finish a small project that I literally walked away from and left on the sewing machine for 2 days due to absolute frustration! The tread kept tangling and snapping, I even shattered a twin needle in the process. I had no idea the threads needed to unspool in the opposite directions, and I am thankful you mentioned that.

    Thanks for the video, I just started to sew and learned how to do the preliminary work with your up close video. Using the twin needle for hemming knits is such a great option for me, since I just update thrifted clothes. Out of all the instructional videos I have seen , yours are clearly the best, most simple, and best close-ups .

    A note of caution to Brother sewing machine owners. I have a Brother 420PRW computerized machine which I dearly love. I found out the hard way tho . . . this machine has to be set up in the computer screen for a twin needle, which I didn't know and I crash smashed the first stitch with my first try of a twin needle. Another instance of READ YOUR MANUAL FIRST!!! I hope this will save many of you from breaking a twin needle or damaging your machines. It also has to be programmed back to a single needle. Lovely lovely machine so don't abuse it by not reading your manual.

    • @deedeesteele1801
      @deedeesteele1801 8 років тому +6

      Yes, it crashed bang before I knew what was happening! Again, always read the manual before doing anything as to prevent bad bad things from happening to a wonderful machine. From someone who learned the hard way.

    We use serger thread on our industrial coverstitch machines. When using a twin needle is my only option (when on the road teaching, etc...) I always use serger thread. It is less bulky and since it is 2 ply thread instead of 3 it is thinner. This results in loosening both your needle and bobbin tension slightly, which usually results in a much nicer twin needle stitch without any adjustments to the bobbin and often the needle as well. Give it a try and see what you think.

    listening to the sounds, I could hear the two bobbins used as spools were making some noise. I think if you would use as small pieces of felt on the bottom of the bottom bobbin and one in between the two. the bobbins wouldn't jump and keep the thread from flopping. It's a thought anyway. Good explanation of double needle.

    • @smallfootprint2961
      @smallfootprint2961 4 роки тому

      Seems easy enough to use the felt pieces and the keepers on separate thread posts. We always think we know better and can play the system, but there's a reason they set it up the way they do. Still I got a lot from this demo.

    I have a CXL 301 Janome and only just learning. Made a few bags and face masks.
    I have now got some jersey fabric to make some P.J’s it advised you use a twin 80/12. That scared me. I’m now feeling more confident to go and sew.
    You made it look simple.

    Thank you so much for this. I wondered how to keep the two threads separated with the thread guides near the needle. Now I know, only use the one directly above the needle for one of the threads, as you did with the left hand thread. My Bernette machine has two spool pins, so that's not a problem, but I like your idea of having the threads come off in different directions. Will give that a try next time I need to repair the hems on my T-shirt hem and sleeves. Thank you for your lovely clear simple explanations.

    Thank you for this lovely demo. Just a quick note. I've just tested twin needles for the very first. After a few failed tests I used ONLY the left thread guide for the left thread on the spoon and ONLY the right thread guide for the right thread on the spoon. Hope this doesn't sound too confusing;) The result came out perfect. Again thank you ;)
