Hey guys, local Singaporean and self-proclaimed food nerd here. Wanted to express thanks for your kind words about our country! I was smiling throughout the video :-) Really love that you covered bits of our food history and what our small country has to offer. Chinatown Complex Food Centre is truly bursting with great hawkers, some singlehandedly carrying on the legacy of handmade traditional snacks - I highly recommend other viewers travelling to Singapore to visit it too! Also smiled ear to ear hearing how you both enjoyed the flavours of pandan - it truly is synonymous to flavours of Southeast Asia. I hope you give Bengawan Solo's pandan chiffon cake a try next time (if you haven't). It bursts with pandan fragrance which they freshly extracted daily. Cheers and hope you guys come back soon!
Excellent video as always. Although I have a cousin who lives in Singapore, when I next visit her, I hope to surprise her by taking her to one or two of your recommendations!! ❤🎉❤🎉❤
Hi Shinichi and Satiosh good to see y'all love theses kinds of videos enjoy the walk looking at all old buildings the food looks delicious enjoy take care Please keep making theses kinds of videos Thanks 😘😘❤️🥰🤩😍🌈💯🙏🌹🌹
I ate my meal for the day only 4 hours ago, but your colorful descriptions made my mouth water anyway. Where's a teleporter when you need one?😂 Such a wide variety of foods and all of them looked delicious--the dishes at Candlenut sounded next level. Thank you both for the great recommendations! 💙💙
You guys know the good stuff from the basic hawker food to better (atas) places. I just had the hokkien prawn noodles last week, and I order the $6 portion to enjoy it fully. And I must say, you guys pronounce the street names and dishes names quite accurate, probably even better than some locals
The Sotang Prawn Mee not being "overly shrimpy..." Makes me think you encountered some Mee that was heavy on the shrimp paste. 🤭🤣 I've had Mee Goreng in Singapore that was so over done with shrimp paste that it brought NSFW comparisons to mind.
If you liked the strawberry and basil ice cream, you should try fresh strawberry with tinly cut basil leafs and black pepper. It is a bit strange but tasts fantastic. Cheers, 😉
Really great video~ ^^ You guys made me want to go to Singapore and experience all those tastes~~ That strawberry dessert & yuzu mousse gave me heart eyes. The tour looks interesting too.
Glad you guys love Singapore and welcome to Tiong Bahru, my hood 😂 One key tip, Hokkien Mee always tastes better if you ask for takeaway. Not sure if it’s because the noodle and stock gets to soak longer in the packet but it somehow always tastes better 😂
Just to let your viewers know, the name Tiong is a Chinese Hokien dialect word for cemetery and Bahru is a Malay word for new. This unusual word combination is the result of Peranakan speech, a mixed Malay/Chinese hokkien language spoken by children of inter marriage between a Chinese and a Malay. So Tiong Bahru means New Cemetery. And of course there were many 4-pillared pavilions there for the burial services. And a village developed there called Kampong Si Ka Teng, a hokkien phrase which means 4-pillared Pavilion village. It was a gangster infested area and it was burned down in 1958 to scatter the various gang member throughout singapore to make way for public housing. I was borned there in 1947 and moved to kallang SIT housing in 1958. And by the way,the word chope (for reserving a seat) is a bastardised English word chop, like using a seal to confirm a document . 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The food looks amazing when can someone invent taste-a-vision! I want to book a trip to Singapore but ive just booked a trip to Okinawa so my bank account will need a bit of time...
The food looks incredible ! So many cultural influences in this town ! Would love to see more of little India, looks like a beautiful corner and with interesting foods. Maybe you should try Sikh and Hindi food next time !
Funny. I have been to this market a lot of times and my first buy was exactly your sugarcane drink. I drank this and freshly made juices every single day and I miss it. No such thing in central Europe.
I need a rich bf/gf to take me to that fancy dessert place and just spend all evening there. X) That bergamot gin tonic sounds so interesting and I usually don't drink alcohol.
I love all those foods you tried. I have found Many independent coffee shops and cafes here and in Thailand that are better than Starbucks! But they do have good WiFi !
wow, there's some Indonesian menu for your dinner. Rawon and Cendol is surely Indonesian. Hope one day you will visit Indonesia, well at least Bali lol
