  • Tallinn, Estonia - August 2020.
Not only is Pirita beach a beautiful place to visit, but the 7km walk to get there along the Pirita Tee promenade is full of amazing things to see. This is a real hidden highlight of Tallinn and a great free day out from central Tallinn.
Along the way we come across some great sights such as -
The artwork and installations of the Reidi Tee Promenaad
    Russalka Rand beach
Vibrant life along the Pirita tee promenade
    Pirita Rand
    15th century Pirita Klooster
The memorial of the victims of communism
And much more! A fantastic Frugal day out in Tallinn.

I disagree. I'm from Estonia myself and I think that Vilnius is the nicest capital city out of the three Baltic states. There's a cute historic town centre (with underground car parks), a river running through the town (unlike Tallinn where the river is on the outskirts), and some hills with lovely viewpoints. Tallinn has a hill (the "upper" old town), Rīga has a river, but Vilnius has both! And there's Użupis! So there!

8:52 This is a monument to Charles Leroux, a US balloonist and skydiver. He died in 1889 while he was doing his demonstration balloon flight in Tallinn. Strong winds carried the balloon to sea, he jumped out with a parachute but unfortunately drowned in the bay. The monument itself was unveiled in 1989 and reads "To brave and energetic people" (not a perfect ranslation).
8:56 this is a monument to Michael Park, a British co-driver to the Estonian rally driver Markko Märtin. He died in a deadly crash during the Wales rally in 2005. It was a fitting addition to the Leroux monument next to it.

Latvia and Lithuania coasts are one long beach. Estonian coast is very different. Lot of islands : look Ruhnu , Kihnu , Saaremaa , Muhu , Hiiumaa, Vormsi , near Tallinn Prangli Aegna ,Naissaar island are very nice , island Piirissaar on lake Peipsi + limestone cliffs all north coast from Paldiski to Narva changes with very different sandy beaches and stone coasts. Best beaches in Estonia are Vääna-Jõesuu , Pirita , after Keila-Joa waterfall is beach to Lohusalu near Tallinn , Pärnu town beach for me there too much people , widest beach is in Narva-Jõesuu near Russian border.
Pikakari beach is small nice new beach in Tallinn and Stroomi is beach is interesting arounded with Soviet Hruschovkas.

I chuckled at your pronunciation attempt at Maarjamäe. @ 13:34 Converting Estonian to English "a" is a "short a" sound and "ä" is close to in English "long a" sound. Maarja is the Estonian form of name Mary in English. @ 12:40 Yes, very old Church. Has had its roof destroyed by war for hundreds of years already. The first time we walked through years ago (2006), I thought perhaps WW-II was when the roof was lost. Nay! Another war hundreds of years ago... was already roofless when WW-II began. @ 16:45 Those soviet time pieces of concrete are sort of virtual extensions of the piece of concrete you are standing on looking out to them. Just before when you are looking at the warning sign, then to the right there is hands carved in the rock. Those represent a Soviet army person warming hands by fire. There used to be a burning gas fire there. Back @ 2:20 that street / roadway is quite new. Yes, well designed with a bicycle path separate from walking path. We just walked the new path during our visit last year.

8:20 the memorial for the victims of Communism is next to it, it's a brand new installation with two black walls cutting through the hill.
