Thanks for the very helpful video. Two questions please: 1) I will be travelling to Tallin next month with my 12-yr-old child and I would like to know if we need to buy two individual Smartcards upon arrival (and load them with 3-day tickets each), or if the amount of these two 3-day tickets can be loaded on one single SmartCard (and used for both passengers). 2) As regards Apple Pay direct from phone, it seems that it is only valid for plain 1-hour tickets (for one or more passengers) and cannot be used as a substitute of a Smartcard for multi-day tickets, did I get it correct?
Hi, here are the answers to your questions: 1). You can use your Smartcard to buy tickets for up to 6 passengers. First, validate your own journey, then select the number of additional tickets using the arrows. Press OK and hold your card against the validator for each extra ticket. More info on ticket validation is available here: www.tallinn.ee/en/pilet/smartcard. 2). Unfortunately, you cannot charge day tickets directly to your bank card or Apple Pay. However, the system tracks your usage and will charge you for the cheapest ticket option, so multiple one-hour tickets in one day count as a day ticket. Remember to validate each entry. More details on payments are here: www.visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/plan/transport/public-transport#where-to-buy-the-different-tickets. Hope this helps!
@@VisitTallinn thanks for your answers. It seems that I will need to get two Smartcards to be on the safe side, as I want to buy two 3-day tickets specifically, and still I’m not sure whether or not this product (3-day ticket) can reside on the same Smartcard for more than one users.
Visiting your country coming from Texas, and this video is very helpful. I plan to use my contactless card. What public transportation available from Ferry terminal to the Estonia Maritime museum? Look forward to visiting the Christmas market as well. Thank you!
There should be one or two bus routes that can take you to the museum. If the weather will be nice you can even walk all the way to the museum, Google Maps gives the same ETA. You could stop at one of my favourite bakeries for a coffee on your way (La Boulangerie).
A great video with lots of good information. Question: If I want to pay more than one ticket, do I choose the ticket amount first by pressing the arrows on the validator, by the driver?
Hi, You would need to validate your card first and then choose how many tickets you want to purchase: pilet.ee/cgi-bin/splususer/splususer.cgi?op=info&file=uldinfo_uhiskaardist.html
Hi, thank you for such a great video. I have one question, though. I am going to Estonia with my boyfriend in a month or so and we are planning to use the reogional bus number 151 to travel from Tallinn to the Lahemaa national park. How do I buy ticket for this bus? I suppose regional busses work a little differently than tallinn public transport but I can not find any useful information online. Thank you so much!
hello, can you buy the tallin card at the airport and then use that same card to get the public transport from airport to city center? that way you wouldn't have to take the cab...
Yes, you can buy the online Tallinn Card in that case and use it straight from the airport: www.visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/tallinn-card/tallinn-card/online-shop The card will be validated by the QR code and the clock starts running then.
Great video! One question... If you pay for public transport with your bank card, how to you provide proof of payment to a fare inspector if asked? Do you receive a receipt after tapping your bank card? Unlike most transport issued payment cards (which can be checked by an inspector) a normal bank card cannot.
Yes, you can buy the day tickets only with the Ühiskaart. This day ticket is valid until the end of a transport day. The transport day starts at 4 AM and lasts 24 hours until the next morning. More here: www.visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/plan/transport/public-transport#one-hour-and-day-tickets-with-uumlhiskaart-fare-card
Hi, is it possible to use a foreign contactless bank card in the same way as the smartcard, when going on the bus/tram between the airport and the city centre? And if someone comes to check that you have a ticket, how can they check that you have a valid ticket, if you've paid using your contactless bank card?
Hi, You can use most contactless payment cards or credit cards. If you happen to experience ticket control, you just need to present the card you purchased the tickets.
Hi, I would like to know if I buy 5 day ticket on smartcard I can return it before leaving or I need to use it as much as possible or how does it work, when it's ticket and not money. Thanks for any reply
Day tickets cannot be returned. They are activated on your first trip and will be valid for the number of days you have purchased them for. visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/plan/transport/public-transport
Hello please give me a proper answer, I am gonna buy this green card, I want 5-day ticket which costs 9 euros( I saw that info in Internet), so my question is: For example, I bought this 5-day ticket and the card, and I want to to uae publi transport for 4 times per day, do I need to take for example 20-30€ on that green card or paying that 9 euros is enough for traveling during these 5 days? Should I be charged every time I use the public transport if I have 5-day ticket? It a little bit confusing
Hi, If you buy a 5-day ticket, then this is what you pay for. No extra money needed (apart from the 2 euros that you pay for the Smart Card). Note that the prices of the tickets change on may 1, 2023. The 5-day ticket will then cost 11€.
A few questions. Lets say I wanna buy a 24h ticket. Can I do that on the validator, by the driver, or do i have to buy it somewhere else? Also if I buy a 24h ticket do I have to scan the ticket everytime I get on public transport, or just the first time?
From the validators in the vechicles or ticket maschines (at the airport and bus station) you can buy one hour tickets only. If you want to get the one day ticket, you need the green Smart Card (Ühiskaart) and then you can buy various ticket types on it. You need to swipe your Smart Card each time you enter to the public transport. More here: www.visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/plan/transport/public-transport#ticket-prices
Hi, would like to know if all public transport can use contactless card? If not, what are my option other than buying uhiskaart? hope you can answer, going to visit Tallinn in May, searching for answers regarding Tallinn public transport. 😅
Yes, all of Tallinn's public transport vehicles have validators for contactless cards. NOTE that they are ALWAYS at the first entrance. Only some vehicles have contactless card validators also at other entrances, but always by the first entrance. Your other option is a mobile app and purchasing the hourly ticket. And then you also have the Ühiskaart (like a top-up type of card). Since Tallinn is quite small and compact I would either go for contactless card payment for hourly tickets. You might actually find out that you don't need to use public transport that much. All explained also here: www.visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/plan/transport/public-transport
Tallinn is a very walkable city, but if you need public transport, you can buy up to 6 tickets on one travel card (Ühiskaart - green transport cards). There's more about it here: visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/plan/transport/public-transport#the-best-tickets-for-groups
You would need the green Ühiskaart to load day tickets on it: www.visittallinn.ee/eng/visitor/plan/transport/public-transport#where-to-buy-the-different-tickets With your bank card, you can purchase hourly tickets.
Hmm, interesting - you could go to Tallinn by ferry or plane. I could go there by car or by bus. Can I pay with my bank card for multiple people (4) when I want to use public transport in Tallinn?

Public transport is manageable for wheelchair users in Tallinn. Look out for the low entry vehicles in the timetables: transport.tallinn.ee/#tallinna-linn/map/en They are marked with blue underscore in the timetable.
Locals are avoiding it if possible. After Tallinn went to free public transport, private car usage went up by 40%. In car it takes much less time to get from A to B.
Single tickets are no longer sold at R kiosks! You need to buy at automatic ticket machines or pay with your contactless card on board! (21 Nov 2022)
Yes, I am here, it costs 2 euro. 60 min in machines.

Thanks! You just need to scan your smart card once when you first enter the public transport. No need to scan when heading out.
Public transport is totally free for locals.
I thought this was a joke as in the locals just know the ways to avoid paying and go in without paying. But apparently it is actually free xD
