    For 8 months I have been using a combination of Essie Glow & Shine, Sally Hansen Double Duty Base & Top Coat and Sally Hansen Top Coat Glazed Miracle Gel. I apply either 1 or 2 of these polishes and they all contain nitrocellulose and I have no yellow staining whatsoever.

    I've used this base coat and yes, it peeled. It especially peeled if I used it as a clear coat. As soon as I had a shower, it was a mess. And now I know why. Sometimes there's a good reason for products to contain certain ingredients, that we tend to demonize for whatever reason. I've had no yellowing on my nails ever since I started removing my polish with acetone (several years ago). I will definitely not be using this base coat again.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  3 місяці тому +10

      Well, I don’t think I demonise nitrocellulose. All ingredients have pros and cons and it’s good to be aware of both.
      Normal polishes most definitely stain the nails even though I use acetone to remove it. Even clear nail polish made my nails yellow. Now they are much better.
      For me I don’t mind re-polishing my nails during the week. It literally takes me 10 min including drying. I would not use is as base coat though. Re-polishing nails with color and top coat after 1-2 days would be super annoying

      @anamariaevans8421 3 місяці тому

      @@TheSalonLife I change my polish a couple of times a week, I don't mind it, I enjoy doing my nails. And maybe that's partly the reason my nails don't yellow, because I don't keep the polish on them for a full week. But I do think a base coat peeling in less than a day just because I had a shower is unacceptable. I cannot see this as a quality product.

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  3 місяці тому +10

      One day wear is not reasonable. Thankfully it lasts few days on me now without peeling.
      I would not use it as a base coat though. It won’t prevent yellowing if the color coat has nitrocellulose. Base coats is porous and the nitric acid has an ability to penetrate through it easily.
      So as base coat it fails.

    • @vanessanicholson9260
      @vanessanicholson9260 3 місяці тому +2

    I haven’t tried this, but I looove the Perfecting Gloss that you featured about 2 years ago. It’s perfection. I ordered and then bought more in Europe. Also good are all the Catrice neutrals. The brush is better than many expensive polishes.

    On a different note, Anna, will you ever consider becoming an authorised seller of Dazzle Dry in EU? I’m sure a lot of us folks who live in Europe would jump on the opportunity to get dazzle dry, especially if we can also support you! You have already built a consumer base here haha!!

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  3 місяці тому +2

      I thought about it but 1). It’s a very expensive product and it would make it too expensive after all the taxes and expensive shipping.
      2). I don’t think DD is interested in having distributors/sellers outside of USA really.
      3) investment. Having stock is pricy. I don’t know how other re-sellers do it and still turn profit.

    • @izzh8933
      @izzh8933 3 місяці тому +1

      @@TheSalonLife oh I see, these are all very valid points. I don’t know if you’ve talked to DD already, but maybe working with them directly will help reduce the initial investment, and hopefully also making the products not that much expensive than they already are in the states? But as you said, if they’re not interested in having distributors outside of US, then it really doesn’t make sense to do it by yourself. It’s such a pity that these amazing nail polish brands seem hesitant to expand. I’ve also been eyeing olive and June polishes for ages but they don’t ship outside the US either :(

I also use the OPI repair mode and together with the Catrice base coat my nails are looking healthier and brighter then they have done in months! Unfortunately I had some trouble finding the product online (I am in the U.K.) I eventually found a website that had it and bought two bottles however it has since been discontinued and I have no idea where to buy it again…

    Thank you for all your explanations & advice. I just found your channel today I’ve had nail issues all my life with “bendy” nails & peeling. But now you have taught me how to resolve these. Have you ever tried ozonated olive oil? I notice when I use it consistently on my nails, my cuticles (or rather the nail fold, as I’ve just learned from you) are much healthier. I’m definitely going to order the Kerasal & jojoba oil & start using these. Might add castor oil to the jojoba oil to encourage growth. Can’t thank you enough for your FABULOUS education💓💗💞💕💖💝

    thanks for your review anna :) i actually bought this nail polish like almost two years ago because i saw that it was nitrocellulose-free
    as you said and explained in many of your videos it is indeed the nitrocellulose that can stain the nails and as i wanted to counterbalance the yellowness of my nails i thought that this product was just perfect for me. unfortunately as a base coat it is not very durable as it tends to peel but as a clear coat (like you used it) it is valid ! and yes, the smell.. let’s just say it could be better.. ;)

    I quickly ordered the clear polish directly from Amazon. Thank you for all your tips and efforts to pass on your knowledge to us. I also had such extremely brittle nails back then, although I actually wore nail polish very rarely. Usually only every few months.
    After I followed your recommendations with the jojoba oil bath once a week, they only split very rarely. They were very bendy and then broke. They look so healthy now. Unfortunately they are still very bendy and only a little better now. Could the OPI Repair Mode possibly help? Would it be worth a try? I would also like to use nail polish after 6 months, but as soon as I use nail polish, my nails are even softer and even more bendy.

My nails are bendy and peely, and I've always wondered what your opinion was on both the OPI Nail Envy and the OPI Natural Nail Strengthener (they seem very similar when it comes to ingredients tbh, I don't quite see the difference).

    • @TheSalonLife
      @TheSalonLife  2 місяці тому

      The website I looked at doesn’t list ingredients. Drives me nuts when companies do that. Some people are allergic to certain ingredients it’s should be required for a website to list the ingredients when they are selling the product online.
      I managed to find these ingredients:
      ETHYL ACETATE, BUTYL ACETATE, CELLULOSE ACETATE BUTYRATE, ADIPIC ACID/NEOPENTYL GLYCOL/TRIMELLITIC ANHYDRIDE COPOLYMER, ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, ACETYL TRIBUTYL CITRATE, ETOCRYLENE, DIMETHYL OXOBENZO DIOXASILANE, GLYCIDOXYPROPYL TRIMETHOXYSILANE, METHACRYLOYL PROPYLTRIMETHOXYSILANE, MERCAPTOPROPYL TRIMETHOXYSILANE, METHYLTRIETHOXYSILANE, ISOSTEARIC ACID, SORBITAN OLEATE, RED 33 (CI 17200), COCOYL HYDROLYZED KERATIN, RED 17 (CI 26100)
      With a note:
      Please note that ingredients may change from time to time. You will find an updated list of ingredients on the package.
      - how good for me is to find the list of the package when I’m buying online. Too late. And they don’t make it easy to return it either. Honestly things like this turn me off from a brand.

I wasn't expecting that so needless to say I was very pissed lol, I had worked on my nail polish that day and wanted it to last, so I understand the negative reviews from this product 😭
