    CORRECTION: The Limitanei has the same attack stats as the Spearman. I probably compared the Veteran Limitanei to the base Spearman by mistake when typing the script. My bad!
    So.. as I was splitting the units video into 6 per civ as I mentioned to you folks, I realized that they were too short now. I then decided to cover all units instead, then figured that I might as well go the distance and also add the mercenary mechanic to wrap it all up. Just like that, it became a full 9-minute video. :)
    I'll do my best to upload the Japanese units videos by tomorrow. If I decide to make it more detailed just like this one, then expect a delay of a day or two. Hope you all enjoyed this summary - and see you all again very soon!

    • @NamelocTheBard
      @NamelocTheBard Рік тому +1

      @@gaius_iulius_megasI do like how they adapted concepts from 3 but spread them out among civs. English get the ability to train from keeps like forts in 3, HRE and Malians get batch unit creation from landmarks, as you've pointed out, Byzantine Mercs are basically identical to the consulate with the same need for an extra resource, combination buildings, landmarks work like Asian Dynasties wonders, and the Ayyubids get a choice of two bonuses aging up like the leaders in 3.
      It keeps things fresh while also eliminating the overbearing complexity that made 3 harder to adapt to for some fans, while all the same respecting its legacy.
      I only hope that we get minor civs reintroduced some day, because I REALLY want a way to introduce certain classic AOE2 units without making entire new civs and potentially nerfing them for balance, like Teutonic Knights or Huskarls.

    That is a darn shame that their monks and priests and relics don't have any bonuses. They could've had a tech called Icons that doubles your gold income from each relic or some unique landmark, but I guess that would be too close to the HRE bonus's

    • @andredepadua8799

      And the iconoclasts tech could allow for destroying relics for a progressively increasing boost (2%, then 5%, then 10%) for villagers and monks (cost, training time, armor...). The explanation could be that you are exploiting the zealotry of the population and clerics alike, but paying a steep price.

Early knight would be nice, but they’re keshiks arguably the weakest early knight. Javelin throwers are great but pretty niche , longbow man on the other hand are amazing, especially given that byzanteens do not get any unique archery range units/upgrades. Plus in imperial age, strelzy are also considered the strongest hand-cannoners in the game. Why give those up for gullams or Camel Riders? Give streltzy up for grenadiers? Funny

    the new civs are good and all, but I feel like they just made all vanilla civs look duller and generic. I hope relic diversifies all civs further in the future. E.g. vanilla HRE deserves more unique units, also if you pay attention, non-eu civs tend to have many unique units, chinese, japanese, malians all do. Mongols on the other hand looks generic in that regard, don't get me wrong, the inability of making walls and packable buildings are extremely unique, it's just mongols only have 3 unique: mangudai, keshik and Huihui pao(回回炮), the funny/ironic part is Byzantines get to have a steady production of Huihui Pao, while mongols rely on RNG from its imperial landmark. Mongol trebs also suck in late game. What I'm saying is mongols deserve more attention, it needs at least like 2 or more unique units. My proposal is mongols need to have an elite calvary that act like a scuffed mangudai and buffed lancers in the meantime -- Khan Guard, only available in imperial, just make them super expensive, maybe like 180 food, 30 wood, and and 180 gold per unit, but they are super strong and enemies should fear them. I'm worried the vanilla civs will be stomped on the DCL release.

    Regarding this civ ... how in the world are we supposed to beat it if it can get the best from every civ units !!!!! This is a huge development mistake from the devs ..... Unacceptable that this gets all these advantages.
    Beast nights that trample their counters .... what are these silly developers thinking 😂😅 I don't like where this game is headed.
    More arcade than RTS at this point.

      Rocket strikes from the heaven or what did they do with those rockets. Jap having adamantium armor will probably shake off a bombard hit and teleport hashashuns. The rest however look much more overwhelmingly phantastical like dragon order. I wonder when they add s_t_nists aka 'mazons' that were long hiding in builder guilds. Because these types are running money from the US and squeezing most of the world of wealth.

      Byzantine Keshiks and Mangudai come without Mongol unique upgrades. Essentially the Byzantines are an overly complicated faction with an easily raided economy and a high variety of relatively mediocre units from other civs. Not exactly stellar.

    Nice video, but I get sick when I see that Byz have handcannons (they have way too much access to gunpowder although they historically didn't have any, because they were too poor to get it. 200 years of decline does that to you) and Cataphracts have almost Gilded Knights of the Dragon Order stats, but cost 1 pop. Oil and how easy you can get it and what you can buy for it is also just ridiculous...This is such bullshit. There is way too much over the top crap in this DLC. Completely out of control. These units might be less of a problem in 1v1, but teamgames and FFA will suffer under this crap tremendously. The Japanese also have so much ridiculous bullshit, it's sickening. And don't get me started on imperial lvl 4 Jeanne... This dota crap has nothing to do with AoE. And you are not even really rewarded for killing that girl, who historically didn't fight for shit. She was an inspiration for the units, not a freaking frontline tank. And if she dies, her units do not even get demoralized and she doesn't lose levels or xp. I like many aspects of the DLC, but the bullshit stats and historical inaccuracies are fucking killing it for me. This is terrible. I also think that the OotD design is just lazy and limited and that the whole 2 pop per unit idea will not really work out and make them eventually one of the worst civs in the game. Their lategame will suffer greatly from that and for teamgames beyond 2v2 and FFAs they will be just shit. Their eco is also pathetic. Sure, their vils gather a bit faster, but also take 24 seconds to produce. And then there is zero techs to improve them in later stages. And some of the units are just not worth 2 pop even though their stats are doubled. Archers and spearmen are not worth to waste 2 pop on them in later stages. And with a full eco and a bit of siege you can build around 30 to 50 units. The units do not offset all the synergetic stuff other civs have in lategame, I am very sure. And if you can have 2 cataphracts vs 1 Gilded knight, the whole math doesn't work out at all. 510 hp, 35 dmg, 9/8 armor, special abilities and one pop vs 554 hp (I think), 43 dmg, 10/9 armor, a meh charge tech and 2 pop. OotD has gotten zero innovation, was even reduced in somewhat everything HRE has, which is a feat in itself, since HRE is already very one dimensional and boring, has pathetic religious play and everything else is just one soldier acting as two. That's it. Relic doesn't know what to do with HRE and keeps making them a joke compared to other civs.
    Why is the Cataphract the strongest and most pop efficient knight in the game, when better weapons, armor and training from the late medieval ages to the Renaissance were not even available to the Byzantines? I hate this. The French knight is a freaking Kindergarten child compared to an archaic Cataphract that used fucking chainmail and not plate. What the hell is this crap?

    • @AkkaAlbatros
      @AkkaAlbatros Рік тому +1

      yes they did field handcannons and cannons . during thirst ottoman siege at 1422, when the empire still had money they used a lot of handguns and small to medium bombards on the walls and the ships. so much that the ottomans were forced to build trenches and wooden walls to protect themselves. then money run out as the byzantine empire was depopulated and devastated from the black plague.

    • @Jaysus04
      @Jaysus04 Рік тому

      @@AkkaAlbatros They mostly got supported by Genoese and mercenaries. The Byzantine gunpowder usage was more reduced to rocketry. Their own handcannons and artillery were not at all impressive. And eventually they couldn't afford the cannon builder Orban, who felt sympathetic for the Byzantines, but without the funds he couldn't help them. Thus the Ottomans hired him and were then able to field the Great Bombard. The last centuries and decades of the Byzantine Empire were a real tough struggle. They always had a lot of enemies, were attacked from multiple fronts and somewhat fell victim to their own splendor, which is roughly comparable to the fall of Rome. It was wrong of me to say that they didn't have any. I meant that more in the sense that their gunpowder didn't really matter. The gunpowder that helped them was not really their own. They were a patient that was kept alive by life support, until it had to eventually be turned off.
