Well, its not like the game is bad or something, so the road is well padded. ;) Actually, I enjoy playing the game even more now than I did the first time because I kind of know whats going on. This might be a game where the second playthrough is better than the first one, to some degree.
@TobiContinued93 last time I sat down with it, must have been 15 years ago now and even then, I found the lack of modern QOL was really pronounced by the pacing and the system. Of note being powerless in 10 minute cutscenes after losing to a boss or the like was really painful. But the one I'll NEVER forget and I wish you well when you get there; Jumping on that damn train 🤣 For what it's worth though Ive been openly telling anyone that will listen that Xenogears has one of the best stories ever put to media. If we had found it in a dusty old book it would be a dominant religion. *For those that don't know, at one point in the game they expect you to jump on a moving train with a bad camera angle, as though it's a platformer, this is also after a long conversation if I recall correctly and you can't skip it. If you miss that jump, as I did probably 3 times, you get a game over screen. Oh and your characters movement would make NES Simon Belmont look like a world class track athlete. It was brutal
Yeah I remember the train jump being a huge annoyance during my first playthrough, yesterday however I did it first try for some reason. Although I landed kind of strange on the side of the wagon. Another annoying scene was the attack on Avehs fleet when you fight Vanderkaum. I had trouble beating him because I didnt upgrade my gear and I always took alot of damage during that "assault minigame". And evertime I failed the boss fight, I had to watch the scene of Vanderkaum and his sky officer calling him a dumbass. :D
Definitely. But I think from a modern game development perspective, if you put something into the game and spent time on it during the development, but the average player doesnt experience it during his first (and probably only) playthrough, it might be considered a waste of development ressources. Its sad...
It's been so many years since I could play this, and I still remember these secrets. This game was one of the greatest gaming experiences I ever had. I still listen to its soundtrack collection on my mp3 player almost daily.
@@TobiContinued93 The Xenogears playlist I have is long enough with the original, Creid, Light and Air, and Myth. It's unfortunate the Myth album is missing tracks they played during a 20th anniversary live concert, that version of Steel Giant is epic!
I play this every other year or so, I have it on my Vita allong with final fantasy 1-10 and a few other RPGs, all from the official playstation network store (I'm not sure if it was available in other regions normally, I got the Japanese one) I play fairly often, and I thought I knew all of the missable items, but you showed me some I never knew about. And I did know the "unwinnable" fight was winnable. The hardest gear fight for me was the one with Ellie while on drugs
Oh you mean the one on the mountain range before you attack Avehs main fleet? Yeah that one was tough, I clutched it out last round before she was about to knock me down.
Magnetic Coats are avaiable as an item drop form Quadrafoots, those enemies can be found in the small sand patch near the Kislev's border with Aveh, right south from Nortune
@@TobiContinued93 as soon as you can get out of Kislev for the first time you can find them, I got all the Magnetic Coats I needed from them, you can also sell for a good amount, not sure if 1000 or 1500G, but you can grind some money from them also, they are in a very small sand patch south from Nortune and can only be found around there.
@@TobiContinued93they appear as soon as you can get out of Kislev, and only on that small sand patch, you can get as many Magnetic Coats as you need, they also drop 1000G and you get to sell the spare Magnetic Coats for a good amount
Magnetic coats are good up to the Elly fight. What is game-breaking are the Defense raising equips like the Def Circuit. It gets stronger the more Frame HP you have and you can wear three of them to reduce physical attacks to fractions. Won't work on the ID fight, but the game explains why. It makes the Naphtali fight easy.
Magnetic coatings and holy pendants were my key to Gear combat, especially boss battles in the latter portion of the game. Holy pendants made it easier to reach Infinity Mode and made them last longer than three turns.
I think magnetic coats are relly good because they make gear fights less obnoxious. You just wont miss attacks that much using them. Its not mainly about what makes the fights easier. Unless we are talking about that one special fight near the end...
You are welcome! There is likely more that i didn't get in the video, especially optional dialogues and hidden consumable items/money. But I think i covered the most important stuff in the early game. Looking forward to playing the rest of the game and covering that too!
You can get over a dozen Iron Mail if you mash the accept button while grabbing them. You can get 99 with a turbo controller. It might work with the other stuff you can physically grab on screen.
i literally just finished replaying this game around four days ago, i think. one of my favorite "series" ever. there were some fun little tidbits i didn't know about here! looking forward to the next video! are you thinking about continuing with the future games or just planning on sticking with this entry? eta: i'm really happy to see other people taking a(n) (renewed) interest in this game. it was an amazing game with such a wild story
Thank you for your nice comment! Right now the plan is to stick mainly in and a little bit around the 90's. At least in the near future. So the Focus will be on ps1 and snes games and maybe some remasters on newer consoles like the FF pixel remaster, if available. Maybe I will get to the Xenosaga and/or Xenoblade titles at some point, but unless something unexpected happens, I wouldnt expect this to happen in the next one or two years. There are so many other games I want to cover first.
There is a secret cutscene around playing the minigames in Bledavik, where Fei meets people from Lahan village doing small talk and Fei makes a loud heartbeat sound when they are happy to return home. I don't know how to reproduce the event or if its RNG like the explosive collar cutscene.
Heh, etherdoublers and power magics you say... I have no need of such devices! :3c (About oh... 7 years ago now... Turns out you just need Wild Smile, the Stop Ether Engine whips, and maxxed out response along with some of the character gear that affects gear combat by enhancing the pilots like holy pendats/step shoes/speed shoes etc. Takes about 13 minutes to beat him down physically :D)
Defense gear reduces his attacks to a couple thousand. You don't even need to dodge. You can also give him elemental weaknesses and almost hit damage cap.
@@TobiContinued93 Some modern JRPGs go on forever, Xenogears is short compared to them. More importantly Xenogears is good the whole time, with great music but it is a long ride.
Yeah compared to modern games its short, but for me its a reasonably length. Dont necessary need a game that lasts over 100 hours, Baldurs Gate 2 might be an exception though. ;)
Thanks! Happy to hear you enjoy what I do! Not sure though if I will continue the walkthrough in this kind of format though, or if I will just do one big video covering the most important secrets of whole game. I will however make at least 2 or 3 other guides for this game on specific topics.

@TobiContinued93 Average players are idiots that want instant gratification. Developers appeasing the fidget spinner generation.
