You guys are pioneering a new way of presenting archoelogical artifacts to the public. This so interesting to watch as a casual viewer.
If pioneering is copying what the guys he debunks have been doing for years without the speculation
As Hittites were indo-europian those 12 gods scenario looks like some indo-europian concept like 12 Olympians and 12 Adityas and also the Association of mace with storm God , really very interesting
Yes. Many don't understand that ancient "Greece" was a mix of cultures, gods, languages, foods, etc. The Levant, Persia, middle east, Anatolia, Minoan, Egypt, all contributed much of their own cultures.
@@papasitoman True, and all ancient religions were based on the idea of the 12 cycles of the moon and constellations, and of course of the sun.
@cattymajiv but 12 is 1/30 of a circle measured as having 360° by Babylonian mathematics. But why did they come up with that number? Is it because of the mathematics of space-time? Ive no idea. I need to go and make lunch. 😊
No such thing as indo-European... just the Aryans from West Asia who's 10000 years of civilization and identity which spread to northern Indian and Europe who have nothing to do with it's origin!! the Anglo saxx's during 1960s came up with the term indo European to try spreading their own narrative of Harry Potter history 😅
Issue with official story is , that it’s coming from obedient, system and hierarchy, that is only allowing , to repeat what is served from the top, once rebels get their ways , and get proven right, the system will start parroting rebels opinions . … history always repeat itself

Amazing the reliefs can still be seen after 3500 years
that's how I want to watch archaeology channel not some Joe Rogan seeking scandal sitting in artificial lighting in studio - field videos are the best
Absolutely! This channel is great, with real information and not some made-up nonsense and quasi-research 😒😒
Such a dumb comment

Real archeologists not bullshit like Joe Rogan... then they use BC / BCE... so, not so much difference. Just childish
@@Balthazare69 b-b-but... no Nephilim? No Anunaki or lost advanced technology? How will I achieve enlightenment before the endtimes if you guys hide all the super exciting secret history? 🤣
So nice of Tudhaliya IV to tell us the names of three other kings
They may well have been recognized ancestors, underscoring Tudhaliya IV's royal authority.
Incredible murals. Hard to fathom between what is now weathered rocks and forests lies the legacy of decades to centuries of some most influential early civilizations.
Though sculptured reliefs, these panels I suspect were adorned with colors when the site was still in use as a religious center. That would have highlighted them more, and made them stand out more vividly.
@@barrymoore4470 I tend to assume that for most ancient reliefs/statues. However I also remind myself that if something's been used for decades or centuries I think by then it may have fallen into disrepair fairly quickly if they didn't perform quality maintenance, which wouldn't be there without a wealthy benefactor interested in (or financially capable of) maintaining it.
All to (cautiously) say that most works which eroded probably looked quite similar to how they look like now, for most of the time during which they've been used for - if their use greatly outlived their original patrons.
"A hittite could tell you"
well, that's a problem.
Incredible post. Thank You
Excellent short synopsis, thanks for sharing this with us...I hope your channel grows large enough to do these "real world" presentations...
Can you do a video about the relationship between archaeology and linguistics? How are material culture and language related / unrelated? In what ways is it possible / impossible to use material culture to identify language groups or boundaries? What correlations or links can be drawn between material culture and language?
I’ve read about this temple but to see it is great. Thnx. I’ve read the Hittites boasted they had a 1,000 gods including many “adopted” from those kingdoms they conquered. One king boasted in capturing a city and took the gods (statute-idols?) away. From reading about the decipherment of their language “Nešili” on the ubiquitous clay tablets the Hittites have provided clues about other Anatolian (nonIndo-European) languages like Hattian.
Absolutely stunning. I can only hope to see this in person one day!
This channel has opened my mind up to what the entire ideas of pseudoarcheology and paeudohistory are, and how damaging they are to young minds. I was raised by a father who was a major sci-fi fan, and one that was skeptic of many things, including religion, but he fell into this hole the same way I did. Seeking false truths to narratives that don't exist, just because it's fascinating to think about what might have been thousands of years ago in humanities history.
I am am so very angered by the fact that Graham Hancock and his kind are doing so much harm to the minds of the gullible people of all ages who fall for their lies!
I still don’t really understand the harm aspect of the Hancock hate …. How is he harming people ? Because he has questions or alternative theories….. most of what he says is just postulating a theory …. I’m not sure he has ever called himself an archeologist….. I agree with a lot of archeologists but in the end they are wildly speculating as well 95% of the time ….. so disagree for sure ..,, think it’s stupid for sure ….. but my man here is making a cottage industry of debunking Hancock and trying really , really hard to get on Rogan himself so your kidding yourself if you think he isn’t happy Graham exist ….. frankly I’m glad there are dreamers out there ….. none of you can demonstrably prove any of this so maybe lighten up and take it is as entertainment
@@jacobfinney5642 No, archeologists are not 'wildly speculating' 95% of the time. The fact that you believe that is the first casualty from following pseudo-archeologists like Hancock.
@@kelliepatrick519 is it ? I’ve asked where Graham says he’s an archeologist, said I agreed with a lot of archeologists…. Pointed out he is postulating …. And at the end of the day all of accepted archeological is predicated on the best possible educated GUESS based on the very limited , dogmatic facts that remain that provide the building blocks for accepted theory ….. this weird thing your doing where your generalizing what I’m saying is kinda my point I guess …. You took nothing I said into consideration and went straight into insults / grandstanding …. And still offered no evidence of harm which was the point to begin with …..
@@jacobfinney5642 lol, sorry, nice try. The 'dogmatic' is the giveaway.
But I get it. You're 'just asking questions'. Encouraging people to 'do their own research'. And that we need to 'teach the controversy'.
Imagine being the one who had to convince all those gods to stay lined up while the sculptor took their carving.
"Hey seriously you guys! Now YOU may have all the time in the world...."
I’m glad it’s survived so well in Türkiye, ancient ruins have not fared so well further south.
Türkiye has done a great job preserving their heritage and not letting more modern religious sentiment erase and deface the past.
May such enlightened policies of preservation and conservation of heritage continue.
Most of the work has been done by the Germans for more than 100 years.
If only the leaders and many of the people in Turkey, Hungary, Serbia, Belarus, and especially Russia and Israel cared as much about living people! The genocide those countries conduct and support has to stop! FOREVER!
Save the Palestinians!

"Their robes look like Saturn V rockets", I'm sure the ancient alien crowd will rant. (Posting while very high.)
I have always enjoyed archeology and these short videos really offer an interesting insight into the topic.
So much history and culture we may never know or understand, it’s kind of sad, like those unknown gods with their names and mythos lost to time. Hopefully one day we’ll find something that informs us but I just get a little sad that so much culture is lost and unknowable, legacies lost and remain a mystery. Thank you for the wonderful video and knowledge of the Hittites culture.
There has been great historical research done on the Hittites. See, especially, Trevor Bryce.
@@gregorynixon2945 Wait, so we do know who those gods are and what they symbolize? Like, their whole pantheon?
It's recently (20 years or so) become very well-studied by scholars and much has been revealed. The shortest book to get summary insights is Trevor Bryce's *Warriors of Anatolia*. Recommended.
@@MetastaticMaladies I think Dr Milano exaggerates his point. Many depicted deities are unknown but the major 12 and more certainly are known. Yazilikaya (as it's called today) was vastly rebuilt after the religious reforms of Puduhepa, mother and chief advisor to Tudhaliya IV. The Hittites suffered runaway god inflation by incorporating every deity they encountered into their pantheon (the famous 1000 goda of the Hatti). Puduhepa declared she had a revelation and restricted the number of major deities to gods mainly drawn from the Hurrians (her ancestors). There is plenty of excellent research literature on this topic.
@@gregorynixon2945 Huh. I read that the full pantheon of gods and the intricacies of their religious practices aren’t fully understood. Like some myths and rituals are difficult to interpret, so while we have a decent idea, it’s still not fully known. And there is little known about the daily lives of ordinary people, there’s a lot of info about kings and the elite, but very little is known about the common people. I could go on about other things I’ve read but it’ll get too long. It seems there’s still a lot of mysteries surrounding the Hittites that we haven’t discovered, and while I appreciate you trying to educate me, I think your exaggerating just how much we know, I’ve read several books on Hittites, I can’t remember if they are all Trevor or not, but we don’t know everything about them, and that’s the point of my post. Things that have been lost to time we may never know, including people and culture, but I hope we learn everything.
The thumbnail is hilarious
I can honestly smell that moment the chisel hits the stone on these monuments. I feel as though I can be in amongst it if I just close my eyes.
Schubbilubbiluma 2 is also one of my favorites
Is there any mention about Gozer or Zuuls. That's really the only thing we want to know.
What an amazing place. Thank you both for the tour. Incredible.
Fascinating, and well described. Also: good choice of music @ 3:17 unobtrusive, but lends an air of mystery.
Sounds like BG3 music. This is clearly an ancient monument somewhere in Forgotten Realms.
Great Report. Thank you
Hittite’s temporary capital Tarhuntassa still couldn’t found. Tarhuntassa clay tablet achieve should include very important informations. Muwatalli II (1295 bc-1272 bc) moved the capital from Hattusa to Tarhuntassa to prepare the battle of Kadesh (Against Egypt)(1274 bc) better. His son Mursili III (Urhi-Teshub) (1272 bc-1267 bc) moved back the capital to Hattusa again.
Strange that Ishtar's sacred city, Lawazantiya, has never been found. It's where Ḫattušili III met Puduhepa while returning from Kadesh, but he was not yet Great King then.
New to this channel, and have been binging old content.
Thanks for the excellent work and perspective.
Its also nice to see polite counter arguments to trendy theories that get a lot of attention. I like those theories being presented as well, but they do need scholarly scrutiny.
Very frakin' cool! Thanks for this.
Nice. Looks amazing.
Your head popping up in the bottom of the thumbnail sold me 100%!!! Lets DOOOO THISSSS!!!!
Thank you.
That was pretty cool!
Damn, that was so good. I had to watch it three times.
It started to turn into a comedy a bit, but very interesting And I’m thankful you shared it
Thanks for the share , curious about what you said about not just one deity/god yet several . Is this referring to a syncretism of sorts or more like a polytheistic setting . It seems like a sacred place from here 😎
Be well and thank you ✝️
I gotta get me one of those fedoras! Much better than my bucket hat!
I still get overwhelmed with the time span, when I think about this being a few HUNDRED years, yet, BEFORE the 'bronze age collapse' and my understanding that the Hittites in particular were more or less "wiped out" by that chain of events.
And I'm curious: I guess "wiped out" doesn't mean every one of them died suddenly. Rather, it literally means they stopped leaving monumental artifacts with a given continuous theme..
Monument construction would have required.... what? A king to organize the people and get their surpluses gathered into one pocket? What replaced monuments, as we became harder to control in recent decades? I'm thinking about how much surplus you need in order to invent "ownership" and "property rights" in the first place, for people less important than the king...?
I like these short videos
Amazing, I bet those reliefs were painted also. would have been amazing to see when new.
Your the best historian on UA-cam by Miles.
I LOVE THE HITTITE INFO JUST GREAT!
i would hazard that the reliefs were carved in over much older representations of these gods that were in the form of stick figures that in turn became occulted temple secrets. You find such figures in locations like this one scattered all over the Indo European historical ranges. I say that because there are approximately twelve types of these roughly human appearing mirror image self similar stick figures with varying sorts of appendages including one with a birds head and another grasping lightning in its "hands".
Oh wow thank you!
It would be interesting to see what this all looked like 3500 years ago when it was new...
good video thanks
Brilliant 😎😎
12 Gods, 12 full moons per year. This temple celebrated the moon imo.
Hattusha was also the center for Hattians, which came before the Hitties who identified as descendants of the Hattians, as far as I know. Given the proximity to Hattusha, is this from the Hittites, or Hattians?
I have a verry old book it's called simply The Hittites , it's written by a German guy it's really in good shape I need to donate it to somebody before I finally leave this earth sutch a fascinating culture !
Why aren't these reliefs more protected and still being left to the elements?
I totally misread this. I was gonna say “hey doc you’re aware Berlin is a thing”. Foot in mouth.
When i see a new video drop from World of Antiquity, I stop and watch. Wonder if those carvings were painted back in the day? I am fascinated by the Hittite IndoEuropean language connection.
I was hoping to hear you get into more details about how it was used as a calendar, per Zanger and Gautschy.
But still cool to see.
Never knew that the Hittites had left some sculptures ...
Love it
Wow...this is a new discovery
The Hitites wrote in hieroglyphs?
Luwian hieroglyphs were used for temples and stone monuments
@@markdevries1535 Apart from those epigraphic contexts, I believe their other writing was all expressed in cuneiform.
Did they ever find the graves of the Hittites?
Yes. Some.
Wonderful place! Went there in 1996, and Hattusa in 1995. I noticed some Hittite Gods riding animals, is there a parallel with the Hindu Gods having a "vehicle" of a special animal?
Wow.
🔥🔥🔥
Oh my god i thought this said “mountain.” And was confused about mountains having ethnicities. I need to get new glasses
Hum... Does Miano always knows what to say or he prepares an script before recording?

Did it stop being used with thee Bronze Age collapse?
Soft sediments from global flood allowed easy shaping and sculpting with copper chisels
is this a repost?
Not a Panther but is a Leopard
Did you say Hieroglyphs ?
Hieroglyphs are a type of script that others also used besides Egyptians. Each type of hieroglyphic writing is different, just as cuneiform script was not only used by Sumerians.
Luwian hieroglyphs
I know what hieroglyphs are .
Glad for your mansplaination though.
Isn't hittie mittani people talked proto sanskrit language Hurrian . I heard lot of writings were found after a river settled etc..pls give any updates if we are able to make connections bcs we have a void millennium after fall of indus may we be able to fill gaps ❤
the mitani spoke Hurrian which is unrelated to the Proto-Indo-European language family, However the Hatti a smaller kingdom that was absorbed by the Hittites and the actual culture that founded Hattuşa before being absorbed by the Hittite empire.
@@katmannsson The ruling elite of Mitanni display personal names and names of deities that suggest an Indo-European affiliation. But Hurrian itself, the language of the people over whom they ruled, was indeed non-Indo-European.
According to the Wikipedia page Indo-Aryan_superstrate_in_Mitanni, it mentions the treaty between the Hittites and Mitanni (between Suppiluliuma I and Shattiwaza, c. 1380 BC), the deities Mitra, Varuna, Indra, and Nasatya (Ashvins) are invoked.

But you are showing it to us at the lowest framerate possible - 24fps. :(
This is a sickening slideshow, whenever the camera is moving. 4K means absolutely nothing unless the framerate is 60fps. This is pure science, not some sort of LAHT fantasy! Please make your videos only 60fps - and if that means dropping resolution, then that is what you need to do.
The future will appreciate you greatly once you make the change.
Can we see the writing that says those are gods depicted?
BC
The twelve Hittite gods was their representation of the Zodiac. Each is pictured with a series of dots (recently translated) that depicts the position on the geocentric planar ecliptical. These are extremely accurate - Nielson et al (2003) demonstrated the accuracy is to within .05 degree. These correspond directly to the famous quote by Ahura Mazda which predicts the 12,000 disaster cycle and speaks directly to the Dzhanibekov Oscillations which have caused massive die-offs in the distant past. You can also find this in the Vedas. They are warning future generations to prepare as no one will be spared.
Aha! It's big,.. must be lost ancient advanced civilization!
Q.E.D. Take that priests of Orthodoxy!
Your videos just always end prematurely
So the 12 can represent 12 tribes maybe this were writing about the 12 tribes of Israel that God would have chosen as their people. This 12 tribes are important because acording to the bible they are the ones who will be awaken once jesus comes back again to fight the devil. Everything else is speculation abd talking about something you guys dont know is ridiculous i rather try to link this writing to God there is only 1 God the on in the Bible
