Perfect time after the gym to relax to! Every time I watch your video I spend money to buy the game your talking about. I will never get rid of my new/snes
Was so pleased that you made this video as I've been having some pretty thicc nostalgia for this game lately. My favorite memory of it was walking to the grocery store up the street as a kid and playing this on a cabinet. I recently downloaded it to Switch and I still think it's super fun! Great video man.
Also one of my all-time favs. I think the difficulty and general chaos, esp with 2 players, contributed to it getting a pass by many. The graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay is surprisingly deep. You don't mention the hidden shortcuts between levels that take you to their own levels, some with favorable bonuses and some with less (so they're not always worth it). Unless you're an insane player, bonuses (essentially health) are critical for enduring what the game throws at you. Learning where the good bonuses hide, "inside" certain enemies, saved-heroes offerings or hidden chests (not just in secret levels) is key. There's also a "secret" recruit - in the sense that once per map, if you get certain items from chests, a thief - just like the one you can recruit - will drop down and attempt to steal it. If you hit it, he will submit and join you. If you already have one, he will upgrade it (as do all heroes do). But this technique allows you to upgrade your thief - as soon as you get one - to max level within just 6 levels or something like that. That's huge. And he's awesome, arguably until the late-game. Thieves can also detect hidden chests and traps, which become brutal in later stages.
This is the only game I remember beating in the arcade. I think it was 1990 or 1991. Actually it was 1992 i think because it was beside Sega's Stadium Cross which i played after i beat Magic Sword. I love this little game. Im grateful it came out for PS2 which I still have in my collection...
I think this may be the game I remembered from my childhood and have been trying to identify for decades. I'm still not 100% sure because the most memorable part for me was that when you died, two angels came down to take you away. Did this happen? Do you have any clips of one player dying while the other battles on?
I actually don't remember this game as a kid, but I did play it recently through one of Capcom's many compilation collections. It's good but I wasn't really big on it and haven't played it since. I can totally understand someone loving it if they played it when it originally came out.
I just learned about this game from the in-game arcade cabinets in street fighter 6! It's fun enough that I'm going to try to get a nice highscore on the leaderboard

Haha, nice man! This one is worth it. I'm actually not sure how rare/expensive it is.
I remember this game, played it a lot on the SNES. Think you'll ever do a video on Zombies ate my neighbors?
Not in the immediate future, but I will eventually. That is a crazy game.
3 years... still no zombies :(@Xygor
Now this is definitely a hidden gem. Never heard a whisper of it before.
I loved magic sword when I visited the local Dream Machine back in the day. The game reminded me of Rastan
Thanks for that recommendation as well. Never heard of Rastan.

Heck yeah! Thanks for these memories. Still a classic I always love to play. 2 players is great.

It's on PS Now, so I played it after watching your review. And thank you for it, because it was truly great. Highly recommended!

man, I remember this game. This and another beatemup I think by Capcom? Any way, I don't play many of this type of game but this one was cool.
Yes it was!
Awesome game, I ended up renting it like 3 -4 times from block buster
It really was, loved this game so much!
