Clicked here just to let you know that it's not, FF3 is the best snes RPG haha. Mario RPG is slow and primitive in comparison.

The whole game (probably be size of its early CGI, soundtrack, story (although to be fair, while it’s supposed to be funny because it’s adult humour, I think Peach had the wrong reaction to Mario looking at what’s supposed to be a sexy picture of herself. But they are together as boyfriend and girlfriend, plus it is in the player’s control to whether they want Mario to pick it up or not. Maybe she just wants it to be private. I mean, then again, in real life, if anyone had a photo like that of themselves public, they could lose their jobs, their housing and maybe even go to prison! Which is why they have to be extra careful. So with that said, I think that’s what Peach was doing in one of the scenes. Not to mention our opinion on her is variable depending on the game. Sometimes she can take care of herself like she should, and sometimes it’s the other way around like in most Super Mario games. Hopefully not in the movie. I know I’m digressing. But my point stands.) gameplay (I get what some people have against RPGs (I mean, then again, they can get really hard), but that doesn’t mean we can’t love them! :) m.ua-cam.com/video/yMaB3Pg6aeg/v-deo.html)!

What I liked the most was how theatrical the game was, also its intense sense of humour. It was great to see Bowser join in on Mario's side to defeat Smithy. The level design was great and the storyline was poignant. The way enemies were designed was also really funny. They were cuckoos in cuckoo garments. They weren't much rational, and it's part of the characters.
It was a game with a lot of diversification where each world was totally unique and barely redundant at all. Clearly one of the best games ever, even tho it'S really old.

If I remember correctly this came out in May in the States and 64 came out in late Sept later that year. This game was the highlight of the summer of 96 in between 5th and 6th grades. First time I've ever stayed up late to play a game because I was just that into it. It was a bit of a learning curve learning the RPG style because I've only played platformers or Zelda prior. I want a true sequel.

Did anyone ever sleep multiple times at the Marrymore Suite and end up incurring a huge debt? I did, I did it a lot. I enjoyed having to work off my debt by being a bus boy. Getting some rare items from tips from time to time as well. It's one of my fondest memories of this game. Unique experiences like this are rare in newer RPGs.

  • @schnorks0

This is one of my favorite games ever. I get where you're coming from by calling the game linear and short, but SMRPG is really a game meant to be explored and poked around in. There are so many little secrets and extra things that are easy to miss if you're not looking for them: the dream pillow, the goomba stomping game, Grate Guy, mushroom hunting, beetle hunting, rare items in Moleville, working off your debt in Marrymore, the game you can get added to the menu. (intentionally vague about a few of these to avoid fully spoiling) And these are just off the top of my head-- there are so many more. And it's honestly even just fun replaying some of the minigames to try to get a better score or grab a rare item.
A lot of these things are in previous areas and don't open up until later in the game. It's really a game best taken slow and deliberately. It's one of the reasons I don't enjoy watching modern playthroughs of the game, because streamers usually miss almost all of that stuff in their push to the end, and it drives me crazy. It might just be something you had to experience at the time to truly "get"

one of the cool things about mario rpg is that, sometimes when you see a game you played long time ago, you see the graphics show to have been aged poorly. they look muddy or lacking detail, but when you see mario rpg ones, you are like, holy shit this looks as good as I remember it to be. which is amazing.

haven't played all the Paper Mario games yet but if anything I feel the Mario & Luigi games for GBA/DS feel like more of a continuation of SM RPGs style. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga had the humor and story as well as the timed button press JRPG turned based combat that his was known for. Haven't finished all those either but they are definitely on my list.

Super Mario RPG is the most fun SNES RPG but not necessarily the greatest. What makes a great RPG is a mix of story, characters, and gameplay. Other RPGs do the whole package better but Super Mario RPG is just the straight-up most fun to play for me personally.

Geno's MY favorite too!!! I also love the innovative battle system, the weapons, the secrets, the easter eggs, and almost everything else. I like that they made the game relatively shorter, compared to Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6. I also like the secret boss Culex. I have it on the Super NES Classic and I beat it. It's a great RPG for beginners, and I like the turn based battles.

Whoa, hold on! Better than Chrono Trigger? .....Nah. Chrono Trigger is far more balanced, better pacing, has much more memorable characters, and a MUCH more well-written story. It's often the reason why people see Chrono Trigger as the greatest RPG in the world. But does that mean Super Mario RPG was a bad game? Nah. When I played it myself, I would say that it is still a fun RPG to play. Just like Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling.

I can't really speak for paper Mario since I don't recall the Zeitgeist around it, and I never really got into them, but I've Heard from tons and tons of people that hated FF7. I've never heard a single person bad mouth Chrono Trigger. Of course I know now that if I were to go search why "Chrono Trigger sucks", I would get results, But that's the thing. I'd have to actually go hunt for the results. With FF7, and pretty much every other game, I heard from people that hate it just through natural discussion and cultural osmosis.

This is going to be our only disagreement! We have very similar taste. We seem to like the same games, and have the same opinions but for me Super Mario RPG is not a great game. It's a very good one, I am not disputing that. I see the many qualities but I also see the many flaws. I like what was experimented, I like the audacity. It should be rewarded. But that game always left a bitter taste in my mouth... Combats are too repetitive, especially in their strategy. The level up system has a maximum of 25 levels that are too easy to reach... I was never convinced by this game. I can name a dozen RPGs to play on Super Nintendo before trying this one... It's probably just a question of taste and color...
