About five years ago I bought a 1991 springer softtail in really good condition with less than 25,000 miles on it. (But it was running a little bit rough) only one cylinder. The previous owner was military and moving back to his home state 900+ miles away and couldn't transport it back along with his other toys. He didn't know much about Harleys. (Young and was more into sport bikes and four wheelers) I checked the oil and he had filled it to the top of the oil tank. (I instantly knew the problem so I made an offer) I gave him 3,000 and took it home, drained the oil and filled it to the proper level, cleaned the spark plugs, adjusted the carburetor and it ran perfectly. I forgot to add that the clutch needed to be adjusted to. It's not the first time I've seen people over fill with oil and constantly fouling plugs and can't figure out what is wrong with their bikes.
I have a 2024 Heritage and went out to start it and it sounded like a sewing machine. I thought I was having a hearing problem. It didn't have that loud roar like I was used to the past several months. Checked the pipes and they both sounded and felt the same heat coming out but not much so I thought could it possibly have taken in some of this humidity we've been having. So I checked tightness of the wires at the coil and then down on the cylinders and I started it back up and ROAR it was back. I wonder if I had a loose connection or ? I just put fresh gas in it a few days ago so I developed a bad connection sitting in the garage. 😮
@@HorsepowerHouse now that I think about it when I first started it up it sounded normal for less than them a minute maybe 30 seconds and I cranked on the throttle and it was very unresponsive. Best way I can describe it is it got quiet all the sudden
I got a virago 535 and it’s running on one cylinder it starts up with both then after I give it some gas the second one shuts off and it only runs on one I’ve changed the oil and oil filter I’ve changed the air filter I’ve changed the spark plugs I’ve changed the fuel filter and I have no idea what to check besides the carburetor
swap the spark plug wires, and see if that makes a difference. there's a chance that your spark plug wires are bad, or incorrect for your model, anything is possible.
My Benelli 300 is also doing the same thing. Just starts to hang and I have to give it a little throttle to bring the other cylinder back up and firing. After maybe like 10 seconds it drops again
@@HorsepowerHouse new plugs and coils. I’m having my suspicions on the injector or the fuel pump. It started to hang when I did a top speed run. Bike really started to really hang bad
I also have a xv535. that used to get up to 120 no problem. now it struggles to reach 80. especially uphill. I tought it was the clutch again, so I changed it. and now it's fine in the lower gears, but does not work well in 5th. It feels like it pulls better in 4th even.
@@HorsepowerHouse omg dude they said I overfilled the radiator reservoir and the fan don’t turn on that’s y it’s over heating. I should tell them that or when I get my bike back maby I’ll buy spark plugs. But I hope they fix it good cuz I don’t wanna pay for a radiator when it’s as simple as spark issue. I really jumped the gun on this one. Oh well hope they figure that out tomorrow when they working on it.

It's still under warranty. Take it back to your dealer.

Defective spark plug? Or plug wire?
Will I be able to ride it a mile on one cylinder to somewhere I can work on it or will that do more damage?
@@thehodigy1911 It will get there - slowly.
or just bring a new spark plug to the bike and install it. off you go.
