    -----For Linux Users-----
    In order to run Avidemux on Linux (and Mac), a program called Wine needs to be downloaded on to your device. Here is a download link to Wine 6.0-rc1 (other versions may work, but no guarantees) which from what I've heard allows Avidemux to work on computers with the Linux operating system : www.winehq.org...

    -----For Mac Users-----
    Here is a separate link to Wine which may hopefully make Avidemux work on Mac computers: wiki.winehq.or...
    If you are having problems with Wine not working or behaving incorrectly on Mac computers, then here is a link to a FAQ on the Wine website which should hopefully solve the issues that you're having: wiki.winehq.or...

    Apparently the Filehorse link which I previously gave to download Avidemux contained adware which may have caused problems for people, and for that, I am sorry. The new link above should be adware free as I have scanned it for adware and malware with multiple antivirus programs.
    This tutorial is primarily for Windows, Linux, and as long as you use the program Wine, it should work on Mac as well, but I currently have not had someone come forward and say that it works on Mac computers/ Mac OS so I can't say I am 100% sure that it works on those things until then.

      is there a way to make it smear faster in the direction it is going?

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  3 роки тому

      @@mariolovescake The speed of the effect depends on the amount of motion that takes place within the video.
      If there isn't too much motion in your clip and you want the effect to move at a faster speed, the only way I know that this could be accomplished is if you went into a video-editing program and sped up the clip in there.
      I know Avidemux is in a way a video-editing program, but it is very user-unfriendly for the most part.
      If you don't already have a program in which you can change the speed of videos, this website will allow you to accomplish this somewhat:
      pixiko.com/
      (HUGE note: basically every fully online video-editing program will put its watermark on your video after you have edited it and go to save it, so if you don't want one on your video, ignore this method. You can get the watermarks removed, but you usually have to pay for a monthly subscription to do this.)
      If you really want a video editing program to change the video speed in though and don't want a watermark on your video, there is a free video editing program called Lightworks which will allow you to do this. Here's a link:
      www.lwks.com/
      (Note: the video export options for the free version of this program are limited, so if you don't pay for the Pro version, don't expect to be able to export 1080p or higher resolution videos with this program)

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  3 роки тому

      @@mariolovescake Extra thing that I just found out: if you are going to export clips with Lightworks, you need to sign in with an account. You can create one on the Lightworks website and within the program when you go to export a clip it says "Log In" in the Publish menu and you can log in with a Google account there.

      That's odd. Did you use the download link that I gave in the description? Because if so, you should have got a version which includes the "Frames" tab. On the downside though, apparently that link contained adware so I replaced it with a safe link to the same version of Avidemux which you can now find in the description. Anyways, if you downloaded another version of Avidemux that I didn't mention the frames tab might not be there so make sure you use the NEW link which I put in the description to download Avidemux and try to see if the "Frames" tab will appear once you do. If it still doesn't show up, let me know.

      sourceforge.net/projects/avidemux/files/avidemux/2.5.4/
      If neither one of these things works then I have to say that that codec not showing up is an unusual problem. Under the "Video" tab, "MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid)" should be the second option on the drop down bar, directly below MPEG-4 AVC.
      I guess you can try naming off the different options that show up under your "Video" tab in Avidemux, so I can at least see how many video codecs are missing, as I think it is unlikely that you are only missing the "MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid)" option on the list of codecs.

    My video desyncs with the audio a little bit when i datamosh, is this common?

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  4 місяці тому

      It is common with the smearing effect. To fix this, you could unlink your video and audio in a video editor, and then line them up properly, you could use a program to offset the audio's start/end, or you could just use the Avidemux "Shift" feature under the "Audio" section, in order to resync some of the audio with the video.
      With the last 2 options, you'd probably still have to make some small adjustments to get the entire video's audio completely correct though, because smearing messes us the regular playback of audio throughout the video. For example, when playing back one of your own datamoshes, you might hear a portion of audio before the effect, and then hear some of that same portion again after the effect is finished.

    Everytime I try to press play the program crashes. I've tried it with a 10 second video and a 3 second video. Any insight?

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  3 роки тому

      I tried to recreate this issue in a couple different ways but wasn't able to. I don't think I've ever come across a situation where the program crashes every time I try to play a video in Avidemux.
      I can give some important suggestions here that may hopefully help you:
      --- .mp4 and .avi video types are the most stable in Avidemux, so if your videos are a different file type, you could convert them using a downloaded program or going to www.onlineconverter.com/video
      --- make sure you are using Avidemux 2.5.6 or 2.5.4 (or possibly 2.5.5 but I haven't tested that version yet) because other versions don't work well at all for datamoshing
      --- If you have a Mac computer, you could experience difficulties trying to use Avidemux. You need to download a tool called Wine in order for certain programs (including Avidemux to my knowledge) to work properly on these devices (Wine link in description)
      --- If you have an older version of Windows (7 or earlier I'd guess), I believe there is a possibility that Avidemux may not work properly on there. Of course I have no evidence to support a claim of Avidemux not working fine on computers with these versions of Windows, but I don't have any evidence supporting Avidemux working well on these versions of Windows either
      There of course could also be all sorts of other things causing this crash issue to happen for you, but these possible causes that I could think of.
      If none of the above info helps you then I ask you to give a list of the steps that you go through before Avidemux crashes so I can possibly get an idea as to what actions caused the crash to happen.
      Example:
      --- I opened Avidemux,
      --- dragged in .mp4 video
      --- clicked no on pop-up windows
      --- clicked on play button
      --- program crashed
      If you can give me this info I'll try to find out what could be Avidemux to crash when you try to play videos.

    my issue is that the moshed parts always look like they're stuck in place. just the edges get distorted, but the frames that i copy pasted/did the method for, always wind up stuck on a freeze frame. there's movement in the original clip, but it doesn't seem to drag like it does in yours (just stuck there).
    another question: for the frame settings when loading in the mux.avi, should it be the same as when you created it? so 0 for conscecutive b frame and 9999 for the i frame interval?
    thank you for this tutorial i appreciate it.

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  3 роки тому

      You may be datamoshing a clip that doesn't have a very large amount of movement. If the part of the video that you are using for your datamosh effect doesn't have a relatively good amount of movement, you usually won't be able to see that much of an effect. This is even more so the case in Avidemux 2.5.4 from what I've seen.
      If your video does have a good amount of movement, then you may have just forgot to set the option under the "Video" tab back to "Copy" when you went to export your final video that you edited in Avidemux (i.e. your video in which you copied and pasted the frames on.)
      Another important reminder from the video that I'll bring up is to make sure that you click "No" on all of the pop-ups that Avidemux shows you while you're importing and exporting videos. Clicking "Yes" on one of these options can (depending on which one you click) result in program crashes, loss of video audio, and videos freeze framing like you mentioned above.
      As for your second question - You don't need to change any of the settings within the "Configure" tab's pop-up window after you have already changed them when preparing to export your first video clip. Once you drag the first video that you saved into Avidemux after closing out of the original/base video, all of the settings which you altered before going to save the first clip should be the same as what they were at the time when that first clip was saved.
      Settings such as the Maximum I-frame Interval and Maximum Consecutive B-frames are attached to your current instance of Avidemux. In other words as long as the Avidemux application doesn't somehow get closed down while you are in the process of using the program, all of your settings will stay the same as what you most recently set them to, no matter how many different videos you import into, or export out of Avidemux. If Avidemux does get closed for whatever reason and you decide to re-open it, just note that you will-have to re-configure all the settings that you want changed all over again as every change that you made to these settings before the program was closed down will have been reset.
      I hope this helps.

      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      If you have tried all three versions and still don't see the I-frame option in any of them, then there could be some sort of glitch going on with your operating system that is causing this to happen (I don't have any proof that having a certain operating system can cause the Frame option to not show up, so this is just a guess)
      Are you using a Windows operating system on your computer? If so, then you can ignore my guess above. If not, then let me know which operating system you are using and maybe it can give some sort of clue as to why you are experiencing this issue.
      Anyways, assuming you do have Windows and have tried every version of Avidemux I have provided and are still getting the issue with the "Frame" setting not showing up, then I have to say that this is a mysterious issue.
      Give me specific details about what does show up once you click on "Configure" after setting "Copy" on the "Video" tab to "MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid)." What tabs show up at the top of the pop-up window after you do this?
      Do you see General, Motion, Quantiser, Single Pass, and Two Pass tabs at the top of the window but Frame just doesn't show up?
      Do the panels that I mentioned show up in the order (from left to right) that arranged them in above? Or are they ordered differently?
      Assuming none of the tips that I gave earlier in this response were helpful to you, I would like you to answer the above questions so I can hopefully get to the bottom of why the "Frame" tab won't show up for you.

      Do you have the right version of Avidemux installed? (Avidemux 2.5.6)
      As long as you click "No" on all of the popups that show up after you first drag your video into Avidemux and make sure to save your video the way that I explain in this video, the chance of Avidemux crashing should be very low.
      My only guess (if what I said above checks out for you) as to how your program could have crashed is that you maybe copied and pasted a bunch of frames and tried to view this pasted frame section afterwards in the program, and maybe that caused it to crash?
      Once again assuming you clicked "No" on all of the popups, you should be able to view any .mp4 or .avi video files, as well as other types of video files within the program without issue.
      I tried dragging the final export of a datamoshed clip into Avidemux and was able to view and hear it perfectly fine, and ran into no problems with video playback. I also tried copying and pasting frames on a video imported into Avidemux and previewed the copied frames within the program and didn't run into any issues.
      I'm honestly not sure what's causing the crashes for you. Maybe it's a simple mistake with configuring the program settings, or maybe you just have the wrong version of the program installed.
      If you could give specific details about what you do before the program crashes, such as what you clicked on when certain popups came up, and what options you choose in the Avidemux settings when going to datamosh your video, and at what point during the datamoshing process that you chose to see what the video looked like, then I could probably offer more help.

I did find out that the program crashes if you try to save a .wmv file in Avidemux as .avi though. Anyways, I have a couple questions:
      ---- Are you importing files that aren't .mp4 or .avi? If so, what file type is your original video?
      ---- Are you using a Mac or Linux computer to try to datamosh?
      ---- Do you click no on both the "H.264 detected" and "Index is not up to date" windows?
      ---- Are the "Video," "Audio," and "Format" options set to the same thing that I have them set to in the video? Because if not, that can occasionally cause some serious issues such as crashes.

    it won't allow me to drag and drop videos into it

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  3 роки тому

      As long as you are using a supported video file type, you should be able to drag them into Avidemux. I've tried dragging and dropping .mp4, .avi, .mpeg, .wmv, .flv, and .mkv video files and the only one that had a problem was .mpeg.
      If you are dragging in a .mpeg file, when it says "This looks like mpeg. Do you want to index it?" Click on Yes, or else you will get an error and the clip won't load in. Once this is done a "mpg.idx" file will be created for your mpeg file which will make so you don't have to re-index the video file each time you go back into Avidemux, as long as both the mpeg file and its indexed file are in the same area on your computer.
      If this isn't what is causing your problem, then you either are trying to drag in a different video type which I didn't mention here that apparently doesn't work in Avidemux or maybe you have an operating system other than Windows?
      If you think your video file type is causing the problem, then go to this website: www.onlineconverter.com/video
      from here you can convert your unsuitable video file type to one that works in Avidemux (I would recommend trying to convert to one of the file types that I mentioned at the start of this response).
      If you have a supported video file type but still can't drag clips into Avidemux, then this problem could be happening because you are using a Mac or Linux operating system, which usually don't work very well, if at all in Avidemux to my knowledge.
      If you do have Windows and you still have this problem after looking through everything I have mentioned, then your version of Windows could be causing problems. I am unfamiliar with how older versions of Windows handle the version of Avidemux which I provided the link for in the description. So I have another link which may help if you have an older version of Windows (you can also try downloading it still if you have Windows 10.)
      Here's a link to download Avidemux 2.5.4: sourceforge.net/projects/avidemux/files/avidemux/2.5.4/
      hopefully it'll work since the version you have now isn't working.
      If you went through all of this and none of these things worked for you, then I would like to know more specific information about what happens when you try to drag clips into Avidemux:
      -- Do you get an error message, or does it crash, or if none of these things happen, what happens then?
      -- Can you load in clips normally through the File -> Open option on the upper left part of the Avidemux window?
      -- What other specific details can you give me about the problem that you are running into when you try to drag a video into Avidemux?

      Make sure that set the option on the Video tab to "Copy" before you do the final export for your datamosh or else the effect won't work. Also, if you forget to change the Maximum I-Frame Interval to a very high number or forget to change the Maximum Consecutive B-Frames to zero when doing the first export, it will cause the datamosh effect to become very messed up.

      @@brandonschreiber6688 You can try to copy and paste more p-frames for a longer time in the video so that the effect moves further. 25-30 frames is a good amount to copy. Also, just remember to make sure that you set the Maximum I-frame Interval to a nine digit long number (you can't go past 9 digits as far as I know) such as "999999999" in order to make sure that the datamosh effect is as extreme as possible.

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  3 роки тому

      I'm not sure why it would do that, as long as you have Avidemux 2.5.4 or 2.5.6, it should work fine.
      Maybe you forgot to change the I-frame interval to an extremely high number?
      Or forgot to change the Maximum Consecutive B-frames to 0?
      Make sure there is a good amount of motion in your video, because if there is very little, the datamosh effect will be somewhat difficult to notice.
      Also be sure that you click NO on the first two boxes that get brought up when you import the first clip into Avidemux, as well as clicking NO when it asks whether or not you want to enable "Smart Copy" during the final export.
      if you have Avidemux 2.5.4, REALLY make sure that there is a good amount of motion taking place in your video because the datamosh effect in that version of Avidemux can be very difficult to notice in most cases.
      Also, if you have a computer running Mac OS or Linux, you may run into unexpected problems, I would assume (this is based off what I know about how people with Mac and Linux sometimes struggle to run programs such as Avidemux)
      If you have Windows, have Avidemux 2.5.6 (or 2.5.4, but 2.5.6 is preferred) and went through every step of the tutorial correctly, and exported each one your videos as an .avi file, and the datamosh effect still won't work regardless of what media player you use, then there must be something else going on.
      Do you have to happen to have an older version of Windows such as Windows 7? Because if so, that could possibly be causing problems with the creating the datamosh effect. (this is a complete guess, as I do not have an older version of Windows to test if Avidemux even works on it.)
      If you've confirmed that you went through every step exactly as it is explained in the video and if you have the newest version of Windows, as well as Avidemux 2.5.6 but ended up with the same result as before, then I would like it if you provided even more specific information about this issue.
      Information which I would like to know is:
      --What is the length of the video that you are putting into Avidemux to datamosh?
      --Is there a good amount of movement taking place within the scene where the datamosh effect takes place?
      --What is the file type of the first clip that you open in Avidemux? As far as I know pretty much all video file types should work fine except for .wmv files. (these file types crash the program.)

      @@ridakutedo9456 I'm not sure why this tutorial wouldn't work for you if you followed it well.
      I will just say that be sure that you are not missing any steps, as there are many different small mistakes which can be made to create the "paused" effect that you are talking about.
      If you use Avidemux 2.5.6, and follow the steps when it comes to saving and copying and pasting 100% correctly, then it should work fine, I have no clue why it wouldn't work for you in particular.
      Let me give you a suggestion that you might already use but may have forgotten about:
      You need to first import the video that you want to use and then make the changes such as (Video Tab: MPEG-4 (Xvid), Maximum Consecutive B-frames, etc.) and then export that clip onto your computer.
      Only after you have imported this newly saved clip with the changes that I mentioned above applied to it back into Avidemux can you go ahead and start copying and pasting frames to create the datamosh effect and then attempt to try and view it in a media player.
      If you drag a random video that hasn't already had its settings changed into Avidemux and immediately start copying and pasting frames and trying to make changes under the various tabs in the program, and then try to save and view it, then the datamosh effect won't work.
      I decided to mention this above suggestion because I just looked over your original comment again and realized that you didn't mention dragging a clip into Avidemux and making changes to its settings, exporting it, dragging the newly saved clip in, and then editing it, but instead just said that you started editing "the video."
      I just wanted to make sure that you were aware that you have to save two different videos with Avidemux when you go through the process that I described in the video, the one with changed settings, and then afterwards, the one with changed settings that is datamoshed, rather than just only saving the edited and datamoshed one and thinking that the datamoshing effect will work.
      Assuming none of the above info helped you at all, I'm going to ask a couple more questions. and then give another suggestion which I hope that you can test.
      First the questions:
      --When you talk about your clip just looking "paused" and not showing a datamosh effect, do you mean that the frozen frames play one after another while the audio stutters?
      (I'm assuming this is what you mean but I just want to be sure)
      --Are you using using Avidemux 2.5.6? (the best version to datamosh on)
      --Do you have a Windows operating system? (If not, let me know which one you have so I can better help deal with this issue)
      If none of the tips that I have provided so far have helped you in solving the problem, then I am going to ask if you could try to follow the same steps for creating the datamosh effect and perform them on another computer (Laptop or Desktop Computer.)
      If you do end up trying to create the effect on another device, let me know how it goes, because, assuming that the other computer which you try to create this effect on is different than the initial one you used for datamoshing, if the effect doesn't work on a different computer, you may just be missing a step or making a mistake in the Avidemux datamosh setup process.

    do you know how to change the frame type mine keep switching from I to P back to I

    • @NebulousNova

      that's proabably because most of the video frames are p frames, while a small amount of them are i frames. if you press the up arrow on your keyboard it should take you to every i frame, and every frame that pressing the up arrow doesn't take you to is a p frame. To scroll through p frames you can just press either the left or right arrows on your keyboard, depending on whether or not you want to select p frames earlier or later in the video. If this information doesn't help you and you literally mean that the video frames keep changing types repeatedly for some reason then I have to say that that shouldn't be possible, because as soon as you load a video in Avidemux, what frames are p frames and i frames are decided immediately, and the frames types shouldn't change after the video has been loaded. If you are REALLY confident that the frame types are switching after the video has been loaded though, then I would like a further exhalation of the problem so I can hopefully help.

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  4 роки тому +1

      Yeah, unfortunately crashing can happen pretty often in avdemux when pasting frames, especially when you are copying and pasting a very large amount of frames.
      Unfortunately this is a next to impossible issue to bypass as far as I know, as once a certain amount of pastes has been hit (around 50) within a certain avidemux project, pasting any more seems to always results in instant program crashes. whether the pasted frame segments are are next to one another or are separated by a good amount of non-pasted frames seems to be irrelevant, as I have had these crashes take place whenever I reached around 50 total frames pasted in the avidemux project either way.
      My recommendation would be that each project you make in avidemux should be its own datamosh effect, unless you are planning on making your datamosh effect shorter, and if that is the case, then I just have to say that as long as the length of all of your datamosh effects combined within one project doesn't exceed around 49-50 frames, then you should be good.
      I really wish I knew a way around this, and maybe there is a way to avoid this problem, but if there is a simple alternative solution to this issue, I don't know what it is.

      You can load in two different clips into Avidemux at once and have them automatically be placed side-by-side for datamoshing.
      To load in more than one clip into Avidemux in one project, just go to File -> Open on the upper left for your first clip and select it, and then drag in the rest of your clips on top of the Avidemux video preview and the other clip(s) should be loaded in.
      (NOTE: Each one of your videos have to have the same resolution in order for this to work, so it will not let you drag a clip that's resolution is say, 658 x 820 when the original clip you chose has a resolution of 1280 x 720.)
      In order to deal with this issue I did some research and found an amazing site called OnlineConverter that lets you quickly change the resolution of your videos.
      Here's a link to the site: www.onlineconverter.com/video
      (I tested out two different clips and I was able to load them in together after I changed the resolution of one of them by using this site)
      Now that the setting up is out of the way, the rest shouldn't be too difficult. I described how to create a transition datamoshing effect between multiple clips to someone else on this comment section, so I will copy and paste that information here so it can help you:
      "You are going to want to make sure that the datamosh effect in each clip you would like to edit takes place somewhere between the very last frames of one video clip and within the first frames of another, and you will want to delete frames within that area. (the amount of frames deleted is up to you and depends on how long you want the effect to last."
      Saving the clip is the same as how I explained to do it in this tutorial, such as saving your clip as .avi for a generally smoother video output and so on.

      If you try to import .wmv files into Avidemux they will load into the program, and sometimes play fine, but other times they will instantly crash. On top of that, even when .wmv files do play, I've noticed some disturbingly bad audio glitches with these types of videos, often ending with the video audio cutting out completely.
      I don't think I've had this problem with any other video file type that I've tried, so it seems to mainly be a problem with Windows Media Video (.wmv) videos.
      .mp4 and .avi, (.flv seems to work too) are the main video file types that you should open in Avidemux, as they are file types that are proven to work in the program when datamoshing.
      If Avidemux keeps crashing for you when you try to load .mp4 and .avi videos into the program on the other hand, then either you didn't click "No" on both of the boxes brought up on the screen when you first tried to open your video in Avidemux, or you may just have a Mac (doesn't work with the program as far as I know) or Linux operating system, which could possibly cause problems when trying to use Avidemux.
      If none of these things are the case, then maybe you mean that your video crashes after creating the datamoshing effect (copying and pasting the frames) and attempting to view the video within the program. If this is the case, then I have to say that there isn't much that can be done other than just finishing the copying and pasting, and save the video before you try to view it, as Avidemux can become unstable when you attempt to edit (and possibly when you attempt to view) clips with datamosh effects, and can crash randomly during the process.

      If you mean that it keeps crashing when you are copying and pasting frames, then my suggestion is that you copy and paste them more slowly, as I and some other people have found out that copying and pasting frames too quickly can cause Avidemux to crash.
      If you instead mean that Avidemux crashes whenever you try to load in a video, then all I have to say is make sure that you are loading in a video of a file type that works well in the program such as .mp4, .avi, or .flv, and DO NOT load in .wmv, files as they have been found to be very unstable and most of the time will cause the program to randomly crash.
      If you actually mean that Avidemux crashes at completely random times when you are using the program, regardless of what you are doing in it, then it could possibly be that you have an older computer that has trouble running Avidemux, or an operating system other than Windows, but this is just a guess.

      If you are talking about transition datamoshing, which is having the pixels from one frame of a video (or part of a video if you are working with multiple clips that have been edited together) blending into the pixels of another video/part of video, then I can tell you how to do that:
      --- If you are using one video, regardless of whether it is an edited compilation of small clips which have been put into one in video-editing program, the way to have one part of the video transition to the next is by:
      ((after following the part of the tutorial where you change some of the settings in Avidemux and export your video as an .avi, and then re-inport the clip into Avidemux))
      deleting a couple frames from one part of the video and making sure that the frames which come immediately after the ones you have deleted is where you want that particular datamosh transition to end. The transition itself starts at the beginning of the frame gap which you created by deleting frames in the video.
      --- If you are using two or more clips which you have dragged individually into Avidemux then
      ((again, after following the part of the tutorial that I mention in parentheses above))
      you are going to want to make sure that the datamosh effect in each clip you would like to edit takes place somewhere between the very last frames of one video clip and within the first frames of another, and you will want to delete frames within that area. (the amount of frames deleted is up to you and depends on how long you want the effect to last.)
      -- If you mean that you want the Avidemux Smearing effect to transition into a completely different clip, then you will want to basically do everything mentioned in this tutorial except you should delete some frames around the end of the Smearing effect, and assuming that the video that you initially imported into Avidemux is already edited, just make sure that first frame after the gap of deleted frames ends is where you want your transition effect to lead to in the timeline of your video. If you have 2 different videos loaded into Avidemux separately at the same time instead, adding in a transition effect should be pretty much the same.
      I know this is a pretty long response but I hope this information helps what you are trying to do in Avidemux.

      I'm really sorry, I acciedntally left out a hugely important piece of information. You need to use Avidemux 2.5.6 for this to work, newer versions won't produce the effect. Here's a link to to download it: www.filehorse.com/download-avidemux-64/19961/. I will update the title and description to give more detailed info. Also, this tutorial is for WIndows, as Avidemux 2.5.6 is unavailable for download on Mac devices as far as I know, but I have heard that Datamoshing is possible in 2.5.4, though I can't really elaborate on how this is done.

      @@AJDerpatron Hmm... that's strange. I just followed my tutorial exactly and it worked fine for me. Well let's take a look at what could have gone wrong.
      1. Did you change MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid) back to Copy before you rendered it the second time? (I ran into the video stuttering issue myself before and this was what was causing it for me)
      2. Is something moving in the part that you datamoshed? Because if nothing is moving, you won't be able to see the effect.
      3. Did you click No on all the Avidemux popups I said to click No on in the video?

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  4 роки тому

      I've seen a couple people recently talking about audio issues, let me take a guess at what could be causing the problem. It could be that you accidentally left the setting under the audio tab as "Copy" instead of changing it to "MP3 (Lame). Thus caused audio issues including no audio at all when I used these settings in Avidemux" It could also be that your video player has issues with playing the audio of datamoshed videos. I believe I had this happen to me a while ago with "Windows Media Player" or "Movies and TV" (Windows's newest media playing application) One more less likely but still real possibility as to what could be going wrong is that you may be trying to make a datamoshed video on an operating system other than Windows. I am unsure as to how well Avidemux works with the Linux operating system, and as far as I know it doesn't work at with Mac, if you are using Avidemux with Linux or (somehow) Mac, it could just be the operating system failing to allow stable creation and playback of datamoshed content. Of course I am not using either of those operating systems though, so this last possibility is the least informed guess.

    what to do if it keeps crashing every second paste?

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  4 роки тому

      I tried copying and pasting to see what you were talking about and the same thing happened to me. The thing is, the process of datamoshing in general can make programs which it is being performed in (Avidemux in this case) become really unstable and because of this, can frequently cause program crashes. The only way I can think to lower the chance of Avidemux crashing is copying and/or pasting frames at a slower rate than you do now. If you copy or paste a large amount of frames in a short amount of time, it seems that there is a higher chance that the program will crash.

      You can try this version and see if it keeps crashing. Also just so you know, you shouldn't download any version of Avidemux past 2.5.6, because as far as I know, you are unable to produce the datamosh effect in any version of this program past version 2.5.6.

    audio desynced

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  4 роки тому

      If when you try to import your video into Avidemux, you click "YES" when it asks if you "want to use another mode which is safe," your clip will load, but the video and audio won't be properly synced.
      Make sure to click "NO" when it asks you that, as well as when it asks afterwards if you want to use "Tool-> Rebuild frame."
      If you did click "NO" on both tabs and you are still experiencing this problem then there is something else that could be causing this issue.
      Another reason why this could be happening is because when you go to save both of your datamoshed clips, you forget to change the setting under the Audio tab to "MP3 (lame)" which is necessary to keep the video audio synced properly after the datamosh smear effect has been applied to the video.

    ok do we actually need 2.5.6

    • @NebulousNova
      @NebulousNova  3 роки тому

      From what I've heard you are unable to create a datamosh effect with later versions of Avidemux, and even if it is still possible in later versions, the steps that you would have to go through pretty much all of them to do this would be different than the steps in this tutorial.
      I downloaded the newest version of Avidemux (Avidemux 2.7) and certain options which are present in Avidemux 2.5.6 were missing, and even when I just used which options I recognized and tried to create a datamosh effect, the video file became corrupted and I wasn't able to view it in any media players.
      As far as I know you can create a datamosh effect in at least one earlier version, which is Avidemux 2.5.4. You may be to create the effect in versions before this, but I can't give any guarantees that the effect would work as I am not familiar with any Avidemux versions before 2.5.4.
      On a side note, here's a download link to Avidemux 2.5.4 in case you are having problems with the version of datamosh that you are using:

      After doing some testing in Avidemux 2.5.4, I can say that it is possible to create a datamosh effect of sorts in that version of the program, but if you perform the same steps in 2.5.6, the results are MUCH better.

      I went through the entire process again and it went fine. If you're talking about it crashing when you try to view it in Avidemux, it's probably because datamoshing can make the program unstable, and you should probably only view the exported videos outside outside of Avidemux. If you're talking about the exported videos crashing with your normal media player though, then you may need to download VLC Media Player to view datamoshed videos. @NebulousNova  3 роки тому

      @@jacobcass951 So, if changing the "Video" option back to "Copy" before the final export didn't help you, there are a couple more suggestions I can give you:
      --- Make sure you click "No" on all of the pop-up windows that appear on your screen throughout the datamoshing process
      --- Make sure you are using either Avidemux 2.5.6 or 2.5.4 when creating a datamosh effect in order for it to be easily visible (2.5.5 may work)
      --- Make sure that the video you used for datamoshing has a good amount of movement in it, because if your video has very little movement, then the datamosh effect will be very difficult to see
      ---Remember that there are 2 videos that need to be exported throughout this whole datamoshing process. You do not drag your video into Avidemux and then configure the settings and copy and paste the frames, then try to take this same video and export it, while assuming this will be your final datamoshed video. This is NOT the case as, if you follow the steps in my video correctly, you will end up with two videos by the end of the datamoshing process (the first one of the two that you make you can delete afterwards)
      There are a number of other things that could have gone wrong for the datamosh effect to not be showing up for you, but I decided to mention some of the most likely causes of the issue. I would recommend that you re-watch the video again (maybe a couple of times if necessary) in order to make sure that you aren't missing any of the steps, because one small mistake could ruin how the final exported video turns out for you

      Not sure what is happening on your end, but it could be that you are pasting too many p frames too quickly, because that can cause crashes. If you are experiencing random crashes all the time for seemingly no reason though, and you followed all the steps in the video properly, then it must have something to do with your operating system (Mac, Windows, or Linux.)
