Thanks for watching! There's tons of fun to be had with this, and a lot of room for expressive creativity. Definitely let's talk more about collaboration--Kyma sound design with databent audio files?
Hi, loved your first video on the subject even though it's a technique I use in dark ambient sounds capes. This is a new one on me and I'm very excited about it. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks! Yup, that's hex editing at 00:11 (and later on in the video too). It's really fun to find all sorts of ways to abuse data for the sake of sound design! Glad to hear you've been enjoying the channel! Stay tuned for more stuff in the coming weeks!
I think it'd be really cool to flip the phase of the un-altered MP3 and then combine it with the altered version so that you could get a version which is just the glitches. I imagine it would be pretty rhythmic.
Interesting idea! Often the timing gets changed in this process, though, so it might not line up the way you want it to throughout. Give it a try and share what you come up with!
@@KaitlinGaspar If you're looking at the waveform in Audacity for example, it would be like flipping everything vertically across the zero axis. Basically, if you have a positive amplitude, switch it to negative; and if you have a negative amplitude, make it positive. In Audacity, this is called "Invert" I think.
I didn't know the difference between databending and datamoshing before this video, also im on a windows 10 computer, the holding shift thing at 5:53 seems to select exactly the opposite of what i want
Yeah, we need to collaborate for sure. This is very interesting! And you did a great job explaining it. I'll have to give it a try...

Awesome, thank you!
I'm loving all of your videos!!!
Thanks! Check back every Monday for new ones.

Hey Simon, this channel is such a Gem! thank you for doing this! also curious about what is captured at 00:11 intro ?
Ive seen this in puredata data bending video and didnt expected HEX editor to be revealed here ! 🤓thanks anyways

This is brilliant !! Thanks Simon!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned--I've got a bunch more of these than I'm finishing up editing. I'm shooting for a new one every Monday.
Simon Hutchinson can’t wait!!
This is great, thanks for such a detailled tutorial !
Thanks! You're too kind!

mf this is the FIRST thing that came to mind
help what does flip the phase mean? 🤓

Excellent!!
Glad you like it!
thank you so much this video is really helpful :)
You're welcome! I'm always glad to that videos about doing weird stuff with audio are helpful!

Hi! How can I recover mp3 files?
thank you
thanks!
You bet!
underated
Of course I agree. Thanks!
yes
Can you get hex fiend on windows?
I don't think so, but there are definitely hex-editor options for Windows, and the concept and process is the same.
1:40 poor choice of music, thought it was an ad and nearly skipped the video 😄
🤣 Fair enough! But you've got to start with something kind of cheesy, otherwise the databending isn't clear.
@@SimonHutchinson Could have been worse, could have used soulless whistling 😁

🤷
You should try the VST by Goodhertz called LOSSY. It's a realtime version of what you're showing here.
Cool. Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out!
@@SimonHutchinson if you do, make a video! I for one would love to see/hear your reactions to it
