David Bowie was a genius song writer. The man was a one of a kind in my opinion. I miss the fact he's not on the planet anymore. Thank goodness he left us all of his work so his music lives on. Do more Bowie. You'll never get bored. I recommend the entire Young Americans album.

You would LOVE the song, “Right”.
It features a talent Bowie discovered : LUTHER VANDROSS!
Luther sings some VERY COMPLEX backing vocals along with Robin Clark, Ava Cherry, and Geoff MacCormack.
That one is a stone cold groove!

He played 14 instruments. I saw him 3 times in concert. He has the greatest voice i ever heard. :) I would suggest you to react to 'Wild is the Wind' and 'Lady Grinning Soul'.

One thing that is misleading about that synopsis is that this was actually a huge hit. I remember hearing it on the radio constantly when I was very young like in second grade. You know and it took on meeting every 3 years it took on a different powerful meaning, now I'm a teen and it's still applies and now I'm in my early twenties and still applies and once you get up into your 50s like me, it's still applies, because I played in bands most of my life and took care of kids that ran around and didn't have parents or maybe they did but it just wasn't very supervised and they were out and about and just made them lunch and stuff like that. I've since been to most of their funerals because they died young
So now, whenever I hear this song I think about my first impressions of it and then all the way through all of that. It's still stands as a towering achievement.

It wasn't a huge it. Didn't chart in UK or anywhere else, except the US where it peaked at 41.

Letting you know how much I’m enjoying your Bowie rabbit hole.
    He’s so enigmatic!

His first hit song in 1971, and the song that first got him noticed by the record companies. After that, it was superstardom for the next 40 plus years.

If you want to listen to a great dance song by David Bowie, check out the 1980 song/music video for his hit song, “Fashion”.

"Rock and roll suicide " and "Moonage daydream" live at Hammersmith Odeon are excellent examples of why Bowie became so big.

Based on your comments, here are some other Bowie songs you'd probably like:
    • Fame (I'm 100% sure you've heard it before, it's used a lot in movies and TV)
    • Rock 'n Roll with Me - A great vibe to that song.
    • Lazarus - Toward the end of his career/life (it was released after his death).
He has tons of other great songs. He changed his sound, and his image every few years. So you get a very different vibe depending on what years you're listening to.

Suffragette city was just on the news today, apparently they found some old scribbling he did of the original lyrics and it's up for auction tomorrow, or perhaps today at this point. It's more just a straight rock and roll Punk thing but it still is what got me loving him so much, along with all of his other stuff. If you want a banger, check out suffragette city.

Great reaction! If you like his lyrics there are a couple of other songs from the Hunky Dory album you might react to: Quicksand, which is very dark, or The Bewlay Brothers, a surreal puzzle.

Check out his appearances on SNL in the late 70s, then check out anything by one of his backup singers in those clips -- Klaus Nomi.

Now I'm left wondering. I grew up in the Seventies. Did I grow up or out of anything that I was told I would? I just don't know.

I'm not impressed with the approach of stopping the song mid verse to analyze some small points. Reactions and analysis should be when the song has ended.
