  • 10:28 AM - The #IFD Trench Rescue Team assisted Noblesville Fire Department on a trench rescue earlier today at 159th and Old Pond Road. Crews were called, after a Millennium Contractors worker became trapped in a hole, 18 feet underground. The contractor crew had been on site for about 3 hours, pumping water out of a trench to prepare it for sewer installation.
The 35 year old man, Dustin Leake, (name released with permission) has worked for Millennium for 14 years and is an experienced contractor. With stabilization of the work area a constant process, firefighters from IFD and Noblesville, rotated crews throughout as they tried to keep pace with rising water in the trench and digging the gravel out from around Dustin.
Over 25,000 gallons of water were removed, thanks to vacuum trucks from 3 Pro Environmental, the City of Noblesville and the town of Cicero. The vac trailer was supplied by Paddack's Wrecker & Heavy Transport. Big thanks for IFD and Carmel Rehab Support Units for being on scene.
Once freed from the trench, 4 hours after the initial dispatch, Dustin was transported in good condition to Methodist Hospital by IU Health Lifeline Helicopter.
The extraordinary teamwork displayed and efforts of all involved today - gave Dustin the best chance at a good outcome.
