- Brought a classic Tomos A35 engine back to life with new parts & paint and upgraded the cylinder to an Airsal 50cc. The engine didn't run beforehand. As soon as the insides were exposed, I quickly realized why... It seems like the piston seized and the crank bearings are shot. I got a cheap second hand cylinder and some new parts to fix it, painted the engine covers and brushed the aluminium parts. Enjoy watching :)
Seeing engine getting destroyed like this hurts me badly. PO must have been riding without oil - the piston and bearings are so dead! Kudos to you for rescueing this one, two strokes are the best!
Nice to see Tomos living on. I live 500 m away from the original Tomos factory in Koper (Slovenia). Many people from my town restored all kind of Tomos mopeds. I have restored a Tomos puch 175 sv, from 1957. Those were the first motorcycles Tomos factory made in Koper, under the Puch lucence. Later on they started manufacture they own mopeds. Sadly they stopped production/sale here in The Netherlands due to enviroment laws :(. I have a nice rebuild 2012 tomos a35 myself though.

I have a 2005 Tomos A35. I believe the engine may need repair but I'm not completely sure. The throttle wasn't opening up the way it should've at first. So I figured I needed to clean the carb. I've cleaned it multiple times but after the first time I took it apart it clean it won't start or run.
Maybe you have an air leak somewhere in the intake
What gears do you drive front and back? And did you already use the tuning exhaust when driving in?

Netjes dat je de inlaatpoorten heb aangepast naar grote spoelers
bij deze werkt het top. ik adviseer normaal niet om aan de cilinder te slijpen, maar eerder om de carters zelf op maat te maken
@@Tomology ja idd maar in dit geval moet je wel,je carter verkleinen gaat anders een flinke klus worden.
By the way. What was the stuff you put on the motor mount studs before you inserted them?
copper grease. it prevents the studs to get stuck because of the heat cycles
5:45 When you put chain gear on you didnt bend safety washer ,it will unscrew with time,great work btw ,cheers!
I know, when I installed the engine and the chain so the gear has resistance, I tightened the nut and bend the washer. But still, good notice :)

I have a 1980 tomos a3. It came with no carb and intake.
Facebook groups told me it would be better to swap to an a35 engine since its easier to fond parts. Do u know if its just “remove a few bolts?” Or would I have to to make modifications to the frame to swap from an a3 to a35?
to my understanding the engines are basically the same

I have a question, hope you could answer it. I just restored an A35 Tomos Sprint and I would like to know when is the engine supposed to shift to second gear because I feel like it is taking to long.
Does it have to reach certain speed? If so, what is a normal speed to make the change.
from my experience it is usually between 10-20 kmh when the second clutch starts to engage. it differs between different engines and you can play with it by changing the clutch spring tension
put more ATF oil in the box it will shift 2 second faster
Which oil you are using for assembly on the gasket, parts? 2T or 4T or some specific?
top end and combustion area two stroke oil and bottom end the same oil that is used in the gearbox. it depends on the build what specific oil I use

Toffe video man, ik heb op het moment een hoop problemen met mijn A55 tomos streetmate. Hij start op het moment helemaal niet. Heb een deel laten fixen maar komen er niet uit. Wellicht is dit een goeie om te doen. Heb namelijk compressie benzine en vonk.
bedankt! valse lucht misschien? kapotte keerringen? een keertje de cilinder eraf halen is misschien wel de moeite waard.
@@Tomology ik heb een nieuwe carb en heb hele cilinder vervangen en cilindervoet en nieuw spruitstuk
ontsteking ook naar gekeken
@@FrenkMeesters afstelling combi met de nieuwe carb kan een probleem zijn. al eens starter fluid o.i.d. geprobeerd en choke? met compressie vonk en benzine zal je toch een heel eind moeten komen.

What are you applying to both sides of the paper gasket?
liquid gasket. isn't necessary but in this case the cases were not perfect so I added it to ensure a proper seal
Heb vorige week een ontsteking overgezet, maar zag op de grondplaat geen markering voor snor of bromstand, maakt het dan nog uit hoe je die monteert?
zit er een pickup op de ontsteking?
@@Tomology als die erop zou zitten, dan moet er een draad van komen en dat is niet het geval.
De grondplaat kan je wel draaien.
Van de oude heb ik de markering overgenomen op de nieuwe.
Op de 65 zit nu alleen nog een snor carburateur 14/9 met ontgrenst spruitstuk en uit mijn hoofd sproeier 66 of 68. Voor dat net iets te groot nog.
Van de week gaat er een 15/15 op dus dan even kijken of ie dan nog stottert op top.
@@Tomology het is in ieder geval een ontsteking met een spanningsregelaar voor de accu dacht ik. Loopt wel prima stationair en heeft genoeg trekkracht als die niet stottert.
Heb zelf meer ervaring met het opvoeren van een 4 takt, dus weinig ervaring met een 2t.
Basis afstelling van een airsal 65 weet ik ongeveer.

not chrome, it's a nicasil coated bore

Heb je je koppelingsveer ingekort? Is dat wat je liet zien in dat shot, zo ja, zit dat kleine veertje ertussen en kun je die er gewoon uithalen?
ja dat is het ronde lange dunne veertje in de koppeling. halve cm inkorten en dan heb je geen last meer van dat het achterwiel draait bij stationair en je trekt iets harder op. nadeel is dat de koppeling eerder slijt maar met een standaard of licht opgevoerd blokje is dat gwen probleem.
JN ah top! Moet je die halve cm er zelf uit knippen en dan een nieuw oogje buigen, of zit er een los veertje tussen af-fabriek zegmaar?
@@merijn1254 ja zelf stukje afknippen en een nieuw oogje buigen. niet te ver afknippen anders krijg je een moeilijke tijd het veertje weer terug op de koppeling te zetten

Man I tried to change the springs in mine today and messed something else up it won’t start now I fear I will be having to rebuild the engine I have no idea what I’m doing they’re simple enough I wish I knew someone to just teach me
I just got a tomos with this same motor but it has an airsal 65cc kit, do you suggest a rebuild just to be on the safe side?
if it runs it runs. you could do so but I would leave it as it is if it works
but do the standard stuff like an oil change. maybe check your crank bearings too. I have seen a lot of engines where those were worn out

I have an qurstion can i instal anlaser(starter) on my a3? And witch parts do i need. Btw i was buyed a3 before few days in even worse condition.
Btw can u tell me my kickstart doesnt work. Clutch rotating when i kick but second gear not moving.

Isn’t it bad for the crankshaft if you hold it like you do all the forces are on the bearing that you don’t want to break

Damn trekt lekker, mijn Tomos trekt in het begin van de tweede versnelling zo traag op. Volledig brom setup met een bullet.. Enig idee wat het kan zijn?
bullet uitlaat. powerband bij dat uitlaatje ligt wat aan de hoge kant en waarschijnlijk heb je vtw26 en atw24. in deze video had ik vtw22 atw28 dus trekt hij veel harder op
@@Tomology Was helaas een cilinder die in het verleden een warmloper heeft gehad, en lekkage bij het spruitstuk.
Het stukje waar de carburateur opschuift was te kort, waarschijnlijk heeft de vorige eigenaar het spruitstuk ontgrenst dmv de slijptol.

@@marcalan1198 in the Netherlands we can ride these things with or without a helmet. This model is without helmet so I geared it that way because 55kmh is more than enough without a helmet :)
Overall very nice. I iike more assy lube for new piston rings, rod bearings.

is vloeibare pakking. het is dubbelop en onnodig, maar ik las destijds ergens dat het beter afsluit want ik had altijd problemen met lekken bij een gewone pakking. gewoon een van beide gebruiken is al meer dan genoeg ;)

Ik heb een revival gekocht met een ik denk het a52 blok dat staat in ieder geval tussen de cilinder en blok in en op de cilinder staat a5 maar ik weet nou niet welke cilinder ik moet hebben om hem op te voeren bv een 65 cc weet jij miss welk model ik moet pakken a35/a52 ofzo
als je een zelfde soort spruitstuk hebt als in de video kun je gewoon normale a35 cilindertjes gebruiken. a52 kunnen die gewoon op dacht ik.

I never understood why there is a screw on the middle of the intake manifold.
it's an oil pump connection for automatic lubrication so you don't have to mix your fuel with oil you can just fill up your tank with gas
@@Tomology thanks, but how will it get the right ratio of oil and gas?
@@primozdornik8069 oil pump is driven by the crankshaft so the higher the rpm, the more oil mixes with gas. for a stock 50cc engine it's setup right from factory to a 1:50 ratio. I personally don't like to use it because if it fails, you end up with a damaged cylinder

@@daancontent het is gewoon de normale airsal 50 voor a35 alleen ik had bij deze de spoelpoorten pas gemaakt
Ja bij mij lekt die op de rechterhoek van de spoelpoort... gebruik de juiste pakking
