Wow,thats one tiny 5 speed. :-D

35 years ago I did the same gear conversion for my (Dutch) Berini with a Tomos engine. It used forced air cooling, but the carter units were similar. The clutch was a problem indeed! That machine got me around the whole of France afterwards and to the mountain tops of Andorra (with a 50 cc stock engine). A 4 week vacation trip of 4000 km.
It would not get you far with 74cc cylinder. Those engines are notorious for crankshaft failures of any power modification is done.
@@dusanboss7749 @Dusanboss That's why he installed a rito aftermarket one👍
WOW, i did the same 12 years ago. Same engine with 5 speed gearbox and a Metra-Mahle set that looks like this one but was 80cc.
Tomos ctx?
@@matijajerman2005 Nope, a T4L from 1973 modified to T5L, a Dutch model. In your country it is know as APN 4
thank you so much bro! this is a perfect tomos motor restore build!!!
Svaka cast.
Bravo majstore,svaka cast
Odlicno odradjeno 👏👏👏
@@jura1807 google translate helps me out. it's not perfect but it gives me some understanding of what people are trying to tell me :)
Mooi filmpje.
Echt supernetjes allemaal! Lekker bezig!🍻
Malo sam zahrđao po pitanju frizranja Tomosa.
Zanima me od kuda i gdje nabaviti te djelove, cilindar, klip, paljenje, itd
frco moto
These main bearings have Smaller load capacity, so it is Better to widen the seat of the bearings in the block, and install the Newer - Stronger - Compact bearings 17-40-12, so, that they will stand the Heavyer piston and heavyer horsepower. Plus it Is Much Easyer to Assemble the One-Piece bearings , than the two pieced ones, because you do not need to waste any time with levelling the inner rings of the bearings onto the crankshaft. Those two-pieced bearings (17-40-10) did not stand much more horsepower than stock 2,6 horsepower. They certainly didn't endure more than 2 weeks when i tuned my 38 mm piston on stock cylinder with enlarged ports + dellorto 16 + reso exhaust to the "safe" 5 horsepower , back in the 1988 . But, when i installed the 17-40-12 bearings ( 6203 ) , they were indestructible for many years at 10-12 hp with Bing 22 or 24 .
yeah it's an option I considered beforehand but I figured it would work with some quality bearings. and if it breaks within 2 weeks, it atleast was a nice learning experience :)
@@Tomology Okay :-) I was on the same learning with better quality bearings back in those days ... :-) Now i am smarter than before, because i see the mistakes that people in the factory design/construction did . Have a nice evening :-)
Verschrikkelijk.
Chapeau!
Tomology! Nice to see someone one that has done nearly same work and engine setup as i have done! My setup is a Tomos 4L Air cooled non pedal engine with transfers welded shut and ported to fit puch cylinder, its a 1983 block with Standard Derbi/AM6 style bearings stock and the crank case restriction holes covered from factory. Top Racing crank, c3 bearings, 24mm PWK, DMP AJH split port 70cc cylinder, Athena AJH piston, Derbi Malossi Reed cage carbon, Minarelli AM6 ignition system and flywheel, 5 gears, custom "Vastapaine" exhaust from Finland handmade, no head gasket but polished + copper grease, m8 cylinder studs 12.9. port timings right now are 203 exhaust and 136 transfers. And oh yea even a 3rd transfer cut at intake into crank case. My engine has been trugh a 10 year project to come to this setup and it screams! Hope you enjoy your engine and its fun to see someone building these old Tomos engines and not the automatics! Awesome! PS: the clutch is not an issue with grip i used one time 4 clutch disks + 6 springs but it bent the assembly but it worked. now i use 3 stock disks + 6 springs and it holds up fine!
Hey dude, awesome! I remember commenting with you about the clutch and my 5 disk clutch prototype. I ditched that idea and going to try this setup first but I'm guessing those plates won't last long at all. How long do yours last? When I have it running I'll try porting it too. Thought about a spacer in between the cylinder and the crankcase. How did you do it? Thanks for the love! Much love back to you!
@@Tomology My clutch is holding up fine. No slippage whatsoever at any rpm/load. Pretty amazing. Im at the moment running the cheap universal ones for puch/tomos with straight tabs and they clack ALOT at idle even with a brand new clutch cage but cant find the real tomos with bent tabs in Finland. Usually a set of the cheap ones last about 700km with my driving style and 70cc kit before the tabs have worn down to 3/4th of the original width. One thing is for sure the original clutch plate style uses a more harder clutch material than the aftermarket style so its an consern. At the moment i can do a 3rd gear 10000rpm clutch dump against a wall on asfalt and the engine will stall before the clutch slips 😅 One thing i will do when changing cage and a new tomos clutch plates is to weld piece of lathed pipe around the outermost edge of the clutch cage. I think im going to make it about 1.5mm thick and tack it with a tig. I have seen on a Finnish forum a guy that had a 80cc Honda CR cylinder? and the outer lip of the cluch bent like a flower but he was turning 16000rpm with stock clutch 🤔😅 One thing with the piston ported cylinders is usually they have "booster" ports at the back of the cylinder and that interfares with lifting the cylinder because the intake will be exposed to the combustion area and it will run like crap. I did try it by lifting 1.5mm and it exposed 0.5mm and the cylinder was junk. The way i "mill" down the culinder head surface is by just measuring with a digital caliper the length from block mating surface to cylinder head surface and gently using a table belt sander having the cylinder upside down and rotating it. Then measure each time each corner of the cylinder how much i need to take off. I use 40 grit sandpaper and its a nervwracking because of the nicasil if it chips but i have done 2 cylinders and no chips in cylinder liner. When i got the desired height i just do it by hand and use 120, 240, 320 and wet 400 sandpaper on a flat surface to get it smooth. Usually takes about 1h of belt sanding and 20min of manual sanding. Its a bit sketchy method but i use what i have 😅 Just be sure to use a belt sander with a belt as wide as the cylinder. 😎

SZUPER VIDEÓ! Pozdrav! Imam Simson s51e. Tamo nema gasket, alu dihtung, itd, među cilindra i glave. Tamo možeš videti metodu merenje zazora jako pouzdano i korisno. Smanjenje exploziv space je dobar tuning.
I'll look after the squish gap and other stuff when the bike is near its first start!
Where can I buy tomos 49cc cylinder head and piston assembly
in my garage in serbia is a lot of parts by Tomos moped s all new parts buying in store in my city. if you need someting contact me
Where did you get the parts (ignition crankshaft etc....) I have a tomos 15 i want to modify.
crankshaft and those parts are very rare unfortunately. I got the ignition from puchshop
Thanks for the video everone, keep up the great work everyone
Go 2stroke !!!

Wow amazing job! Can you do a parental relation restoration next?
what is the price of that cylinder, ignition and carburetor
Hpw is that thing for polishing called
Wich engine did yuo use that Will fit the 5 speed

Super posao! Imaš li video kako ide ta mašina na cesti?
not yet, but very soon! stay tuned
Tomo, am broke, what gives more speed ? on a gy6 scooter that is. Clutch or Variator + rollers ? And are they worth spending on, i cant tell the difference between a racing clutch and a sport clutch
I don't know. I'm not a scooter guy and have never worked on one.
From where did you get the cylinder
Where do you buy parts for apn4?
I bought a lot at local shops and parts were very hard to find
I suggest that when you install the crankcase seals you should put a small amount of grease between the inner part and crankshaft.
I use engine oil instead of grease.
Your videos remind me of those old video game console restaurations. Very nice, good job!
Man Thank you ,this video helps
Why that piston only have 1 piston ring, isnt better to have 2 for more compression?
Some high rpm cylinders use only one ring to lower friction
My boss know all types of bearings and oil seals what guy use for it from his head👏👏👏👍👍👍
pekerja an yg sempurna 👍
Brings back memories. I can't remember how many times I replaced the crankshaft bearings on my Puch. Which I by the way converted from 3 to 4 gears. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards. great job. can i get information where to buy cylinder, complete ignition same as here, carburetor also. thanks
Molim te reci mi koju si radilicu stavio❤❤❤

What fantastic 👍💯👍work you did! Makes me remember my boy-hood when I had a Tomos engine and drove for about three years with it! So many nice feelings of nostalgic memories your video brings up to the surface! Thank you very much for sharing so many well-done-building videos on your special and excellent channel!
Best regards from Sweden! (Thumbs up and you got yourself a new subscriber!)🙂👍👍👍❣💯❣👍👍👍
There are a few mistakes, but overall its a great video and a great engine.👌👍Respect.👍You can check on my channel, how to reinforce the clutch bell. In my city there are some drag races every summer, lot of similar setups, but much more tuned. This cylinder can put out around 15 HP on rear wheel, but the longevity of the engine is very compromised. We also have enduro races with automatic Tomos. Lot of fun. 😊
thanks! yeah few mistakes but fixed those. longevity is indeed not much hahah broke down 3 times within 30km
clutch rings are turned the wrong way just for info
Correct. I changed it afterwards
Nice torque wrench

Nice vid bro ..btw .. 5 gear is wrong.. lamela wrong too :) and you must have diff nut on clutch..for setup :) sorry for bad english :) gretings from Serbia olf guy who drive this bikes half life :)
counter lamellas turned and counter placed fifth gear is not good
Thanks for notifying! Can you tell me what 'counter lamellas' are? Installing the fifth gear this way, the selector pin engages fully with the gear. If installed like you said, it only engages with half of the gear which isn't good in my opinion.
feathers on the lamellae counter go, and the fifth gear has to go so that the straight side goes up that is correct and so the factory goes that way
@@sawke94channel28 ah check. doesn't make sense for me why they to it like that out of the factory but thanks for the info!
the crankshaft isn't stock
Luckas pucaš ni vredno 50€ vse skup
If your clutch is slipping remove those thin spacers in it completely it won't slip mine was slipping when it was new and i did that and worked great
Zakaj si stavio 5 brzinu naopacke u masinu?? Al svaka cas na radu
it was a mistake I made the first time I built it.
Very nice tomos 4L engine job ø.
Where did you buy the rito crankshaft?

to bad... there is no 6203 ... this will fail so soon
it did. watch my recent video, I converted it to solid 6203 bearings!
Where did u bought airsal kit from?
Airsal is not Bad, its only cheap. You cannot destroy an airsal cylinder when you can drive good :D Airsal is one of the best
it's cheap, does the job but certainly isn't the best quality out there

in the Netherlands it's a rare part

I have a complaint that you didn't put platinum ignition on the clutch goes crown nut with secured also cylinder as well as piston is not original look on google apn machines were produced near You also miss the boy that goes from the side as well as on the original cylinder and on the ignition fan and so cools down although not bad pozz👍👍
thanks. it's not an original engine build, hence the non original parts. it's cooled by the wind while riding so forced cooling and a fan isn't needed. this older engine came original with the clutch nut. later models have the crown nut.
@@TomologyDoes he have a kajla that prevents it from unscrewing while driving and for a cylinder as a kid I put a cylinder of t 15 that cooled the wind happened to me to overheat several times while the factory that has a fan can not do anything

Did you have any issues with this much power? Clutch bell or gears breaking?
I stripped 3rd gear; see my community post. and so far nothing else but it's waiting for it to happen :)
Indonesia uses porting more steadily😇
