    "He comes back and he doesn't know everything, he doesn't know the doctrine super well. But he has a powerful testimony that he can bear and he can share with people. A little while later he and some of the brethren in Salt Lake decide to go on a carriage ride up the eastern bench of the mountains. They decide to pull the curtains on the carriage so that they can see out the window and see the view. And when that happens, Martin sees the valley lying before him, he sees everything that's been built up, and all the saints and how large of a population is out there, and he is just stunned by it. Martin's been spending all his time in this little podunk town, Kirtland, where there's hardly anyone who will take him seriously and listen to his testimony. Then he has this reaction where he says, 'who would have thought the Book of Mormon could do all this?'"

    Neal R is a great church historian. We lived near Clarkston UT where Martin Harris lived at the end of his life and where the pageant on his involvement with the 116 pages use to take place. We should all respect Martin for the sacrifice he made to get the Book of Mormon in the hands of those learning about the gospel should always be respected.

      Neal and his wife are not historians. 😂 They are amatuer researchers paid by the Provo central frats to promote apologetic pet theories.

    If I didn’t believe it all already, I wouldn’t believe any of it. I give grace to those who don’t believe, who have sincere questions and concerns (while I truly believe that they are missing out). I won’t tolerate any who are hostile or who make fun, but I am highly intrigued by those who become converts or comeback after having been deceived and left.
    This stuff is great! Thank you Ashley. Church history is SO NEAT!!! Martin’s comeback is such a great idea to have done a Comeback Podcast on, hopefully we also hear more about Oliver Cowdery and others of the restoration period who left and came back. I can’t imagine what it would have been like in that era witnessing all of this.

    My great grandfather migrated from Scotland after joining the church. He settled in Clarkston Utah and is buried near Martin in the Clarkston cemetery. I helped my uncles farm the fields near the cemetery and visited their grave sites many times. I heard stories while visiting Clarkston that Martin shared his Book of Mormon experiences and his testimony up until the final days of his life.

      I've been there many times myself. It's a very peaceful place where you can overlook Cache Valley. I've also taken some before and after photos of his grave from a postcard dating from the early 1940s and today. I found the exact angle and spot the photographer stood and replicated it so one can compare it from back then!

    I appreciate this episode so much! I am wanting to go through and study the come back stories of these early members like Martin Harris, Oliver Cowdery, W.W. Phelps because These stories that are documented in the church's history give hope and bring an eternal perspective to the trials we experience. Thank you CBP & Neal!

    All LDS members and convert we all go through what all the saints of God have gone since the time of the dispensation of Adam till or dispensation the pressure of non believers always makes members begins to have dought and lose their testimony.and they become fruitless and live the church.so when they go others will come others will not come back.even thou some one leaves the church the restored gospel will always stand on its own truth.all the teaching of LDS is independent.its not corrupted with the world doctrine.most people know little about who God and Jesus Christ are.the traveled truth is making non believers uncomfortable.thanks for podcast.

    At 29:40 you talk about Martin "falling behind" in the gospel after he left. He specifically mentions two areas where he "fell behind" and had to pray (and in one case have a dream or vision) in order to believe the udpated doctrines. These two doctrines were: 1) Baptism for the dead and 2) polygamy. It is interesting to note that these days there are people who claim that they have had similar spiritual confirmations that polygamy is not of god (see 132 problems podcast, etc). When people claim spiritual manifestations and get opposite answers or results, it leads some to question the validity of these spiritual manifestations.

      That is why it is necessary to have modern day prophets and why we are counseled to follow him.

    • @scottvance74
      @scottvance74 4 місяці тому

      @@Come.Back.Podcast So if I understand your comment correctly, Michelle Stone (who believes that polygamy was started by Brigham Young and not instructed by Joseph Smith or God) is believing & teaching false doctrine because she is not following the modern day prophets.
