I think it's lovely that Morrissey seems comfortable with fans expressing themselves in this way. This is a real gift to people. If it were me up there hugging him, I'm sure I would never forget it.

I got up on stage in Ann Arbor, Mi. I think it was the Maladjusted tour. I was basically thrown up on stage by a pretty big dude. I landed at Moz’s feet. As soon as I got to my feet, security had me in some kind of hold and was walking me off stage. Morrisey ran after us, shook his head “no” to the security guy (he was being kind of rough) and shook my hand. It was cool. I had my Morrissey haircut and my blue shiny Moz shirt like in the “We Hate it When Our Friends Become Successful” video. Apparently, I kicked the camera out of my friends hand when I was thrown on stage. That’s the story she told me anyway. I was pissed. Still am. Would have been a great pic.
This is was from Morrissey Live in Dallas '91 - it was filmed and sold commercially. I was there and M disappeared into the mob in that invasion. We all thought he'd be back for another encore, but no - just gone! It was crazy!
When I was young I didnt like Morris set and the smiths but as I got older and learnt the harsh reality of life and i went through a really difficult part of my life I heard a morrisey song and I can say his lyrics and music saved me!!

He handles this very professionally as this will be terrifying for him- to be onstage trying to perform and entertain then someone you do not know runs out of the dark and grabs you-often violently....i understand the fans wanting to touch him but it truly is disrespectful to him
