Its quite an experience seeing the first structure of the Harbour Bridge film pieces juxtaposed with the later . Our family crossed quite often to visit people in Takapuna. Seeing it as it was brings the sense of time travel .
Couldn't agree more, we found creating these time traveling 'Then & Now' videos have been a great way to digest some of these great archival films. Although the original film is only just under 2 minutes long, the opening of the harbor bridge with all that foot traffic is truly an amazing sight to behold.
Our family used to own the land toll booths sat on and 11arces along northen side of n/cote point ... from Bruce(family ) st down ... the gold hole was called where the toll boths were built ... it used to shimmer gold cause of the sulphar there ...relative built first auck sulphar works there ... plus we had strawberry fields along the banks of northcote point . Paralell with water by gold hole ... people would come from auck and have strawberrys and cream on our varanda before ferrying back to auck ... glad my old great aunties taught me some family history .... from the photos of our home stead to the massive kingfish and snapper caught of the beach down by the onepoto inlet .... to great grandfather getting (pictured ) feather cloaks and gifts of the maori cheif from nrthcote point ... to photos of my mum at 18 in 1946 wearing that beautiful feather cloak .... please people now we can record our parents and family stories ....DO IT ... justget them talking and record ... get them writing what they remember down ... once they go ... its all lost and forgotten ...now more than ever we need to be proud of our roots ..... proud kiwis .....
They shouldn't have never taken the toll booths off the harbor bridge. That way they would have been able to fix this one and been able to build other one
I'm saving up for a car??? Like you do as adults move on leave the past in the past and move on good or bad....shameless as Auckland is that's what you learn commonsense...
I honestly think I’d prefer living in any Auckland under the category of ‘Then’ 👍
'Now' will be 'then' in 20 years.
50 years passed, there is still only one bridge connecting northshore, what a shame

I didn’t know that they extended the width of the Harbour bridge. Interesting.
It was done by a Japanese company and got called the "Nippon clip-on" ha-ha.

Golden gate and Sydney bridge you can walk and bike over. Why is this such a hard concept for NZ to understand in 2023?
Yeah...
I walked over the Harbour Bridge with my parents when it opened in 1959. Once was enough.
Sad and amazing
The good old days
That's great!
I liked the 1920 version
