Edited video of the classic attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood (1979-1992) from Finley Holiday Video tape in 1984. Read more at www.thestudiotour.com
@wyldchyld76 80s cheeziness perhaps, but you know something?...Those cylons back then were way better than the new ones. They were freaking badd azz. The black cape around the waist, the over all structure of the cylon and the voice. Wicked.
My parents took this ride during their trip to the USA in early 1980 but since Battlestar Galactica had not yet been shown on our local TV station in Australia they weren't able to really appreciate what was going on.
omg! This is a classic! I remember trying to get off the ride to fight the cylons and being held back by my parents! Its sad to admit it but my views on the cold war were probably formed watching Battle Star Galactica and Star Wars as a kid.
The Battle of Galactica was the best thing to hit Universal in a long time, and ran till 1992, and was very popular till the late 80's, but it was still open till 1992, because nothing big was around to replace it, till the Back to the Future ride was designed, and then the bull dozer's came and took care of business.
The base of the building that houses the now Simpson's is down the back side of the hill. Note that if you look to the left side of the Simpson's it is hanging over a hill. The bottom of that hill was the location of the Battle of Galactica. It was the very first stop of the tram ride. Now if you take the tram ride he see the underside of the Simpson's building, AC units, and storage.
I am a Battlestar Galactica fan from my youth in 1978. I always love that cylon voice when I was a kid I always want to have that voice. Then another great science fiction movie came out, V in 1983 and V the final battle. Those reptilian Visitors had a voice similar to that of the cylon voice. In V the final battle there's a resistance fighter name Mike Donovan a human being who used a black electronic vibrating to make that voice.
Remembering the tech that they had to work with, it was pretty well put together for the time. Today, lasers are smaller. Thinking of it today, with modern lasers and maybe a fog machine to make beams visible, there would be more visual impact. Still, inspired and well executed stunt work and animatronics. (Again, remembering this was in 1984. As I recall the ride debuted around 1979. Not sure if they did refits over the years while it was running.)
I do remember for just 1 year they brought something very similar to the Toronto CNE Exhibition, it was mind blowing but we had to walk through a cave and get in a crossfire between humans and Cylons, I frakking loved it as a Kid!
Bart put Marty out also, but yes that is correct. The base of the now Simpson ride sits on the old Battle of Galactica ride. The current building is in the upper area, while the base of the building is the old location of the Rock Side, and the BOG ride.
Man, this was one of my favorite parts of the tram. Wasn't this torn down to make way for Back To The Future The Ride (now The Simpsons Ride)? I've always wondered what this tour was called, but it was one of my favorites. I think I first when here between 89-91 as a kid.
Pretty cool. My parents went and saw this before I was born (took some cool pictures of it too). Thats how I knew about it. Too bad its not there anymore. Would definitely be cool to see these days.
Ha..ha..I was just thinking the same thing too! They may of had two guy's do it on really busy day's?? Ya know so one could go eat for lunch while the other jumped out there 12 time's until his buddy was done eating!Ha..ha.. LOL!!! That had to be a dream job though! I would of loved it!!
Hey...If you want a parody of BSG, try to track down a copy of "Cattlefarm Galactica", a radio play put together by new age musician Amin Bhatia. It pokes fun at the show, including racial, sexual and religious stereotypes, as they flee the Nylons, led by Baldar, in search of a shining planet known as New York. Example: Cmdr Odammit: You know you aren't token coloured people... you were just the only two to sneak past the guard when we had to leave our home planet."

Well, the pilot was a thinly veiled commentary on disarmament. People today forget just how much the cold war influenced entertainment.
@@DJ_Forcenow we are fluffing em.

Man, when I was a kid this was the greatest thing ever. It seemed so realistic. Funny to see it now and see how cheesy it was. Awesome memories.
How the Cyclons split straight down the waist though... LOL!!! Still loved it :)

Thanks for the info.

I went on this tour! April 1984. Thanks for the awesome flashback!!!
I was 9 years old in '84 and this would have been very cool back then.
This brings back such fond memories! My family forgot all about this wonderful ride! I love BG (the classic, not the remake)
Bring back Battle of Galactica -- I wanna LIVE!

I remember being a young kid and going us and enjoyed this ride
One of the coolest jobs I had back then, paid to rescue tourists!
That's awesome! Where you bummed out when this section was closed down?
I went on this tour in 1985 I had forgotten most of it. Brings back memories
Did the Backlot Studio Tour when I was 7 in 1984. So many classic awesome rides compared to today (2019).
I do remember for just 1 year they brought something very similar to the Toronto CNE Exhibition, it was mind blowing but we had to walk through a cave and get in a crossfire between humans and Cylons, I frakking loved it as a Kid!
I remember this!!!
One of the most popular Hollywood attractions of the 1980s

Thanks for sharing! Too bad they took that part of the tour away!
man.. they sure make em loook more REAL than they did when i was a kid!! LOL lookin back in time here.. pmid.
...This is better than the new BSG tv series!....:P
YES! It was a sci-fi action show, not a dark character drama. And it was BIG. Hard to appreciate what it was like from 40 later.
Old low tech but top of the line in the day.
i was there in 1981 too!
I was a kid on this ride..so funny. I wonder how many times that guy had to run into the building?
@djmyers71 RIGHT ON MAN!! Those old Cylons were just scary to me back then!!
I would of loved it!!
it had a live actor?
I remember this...
NEVER plunder into a Cylon Battle Zone!
Didn't they mix this with the Earthquake attraction for usage in Beverly Hills Cop III? Also I freaked when I saw this in The Nude Bomb.
Yes, but this is probably the only new 'Battlestar' related production that was still going by that time. The 1980's weren't kind to BSG!
OMFG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember
I wonder what that actor is doing now?
Wow, it's like the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland...except without all the things that make the Indiana Jones ride cool and fun!
What the frak was that?!
this looks so lame i love it

Wal-Mart greeter
mountain, not mountian. how ironic, that a kraut has to teach you proper spelling, isn't it?
Wow, truly awful.
It was cutting edge when it debuted in 1978...time marches on.
Seriously LAME, even by 1970s standards.
