Doing the 5 lug swap on my 82 GT was massive. 2 inch lowering springs, 30% stiffer then stock, 98 front calipers, 98 LCAs, 98 sway bar, 98 manual rack and pinion, 98 brake booster, 2002 struts, 95 GT 8.8 with disk brakes, 411 gear. The car is completely different. Also have 2001 GT starfish wheels. Using SN-95 rear end, and 98 LCAs made the cars track with 3/4 inch wider and you can tell you take it into a corner. It feels great.
If you're on a real tight budget go to a salvage yard and get 2 driver side axles from a Ford Ranger with an 8.8. CJ Pony has pretty fair prices on new rotors and drums. Thanks for the video.
mchristr what year ranger/thanks
83-92
@@donaldhayes4785 What drums do u use??
Do both have to be driver side?
U can use driver's side axles from a 7.5 rear I order 2 driver side axles from rock Auto for a 89 ranger said for 8.8 or 7.5!!
Great video
Would have been cool if you could have done a drum to disc conversion. A good video.
That's why I didn't replace any of the brake shoes, we will tackle that in the future.
Great video..
Ready for some Convo-Pro's.
I love wheels dude!!!
Thanks, I always liked the 94-97 Cobra wheels on fox bodies!
The '65-'73 Mustang rear disc brake conversion kit video you have up, in theory would involve the same work required in order to convert the rear drums to disc on the '74-'78 Mustang II as well even if the parts are not interchangeable, yes?
I have the unfortunate luck of having a 1977 Mustang 2 with the dreaded 4 lug axles and rear drums. Double Bummer. And I want to both convert the rear axles to 5 lug because I cannot find some cool bullet style mag wheels in 4 lug, they're all 5 lugs and I want those classic 5 spoke wheels on there that make the car look fast standing still. And since I'll already have the rear torn down replacing the axle from 4 to 5 lug I might as well also convert it to rear disc from drums.
QUALITY VID!
That's cool.. but what I'm hearing and reading is that, as far as aftermarket wheels that aren't from your site.. the front middle hat section on the rotor hat won't allow the center cap to pop in. Because the center is too long. Why are they made like that??
I have 5 Lug drum brakes.
But I wanna swap it disk.
Put that video out
Swap in a ford ranger or sn95 rear end
Much easier to just do the disc conversion if you already nothered to convert the axles from 4 lug to 5 lug as shown in this video.
Just drill the new disc plate in thats replacing the drum assembly.
@@lowslo9287 What year from SN92?
@@hu9678 94/98 are the best because of the width
Hey bro so the 4 to 5 lug swap doesn't require the other caliper bracket for the larger caliper ? And why didn't you bother to load up the new rotor with grease you barely put any on the race before sending the seal in ?
When you bought that kit. For what car did you order them. Or did you ordered them specially for the car? Because I have a 83 mustang 5.0
Can you fit Saleen wheels on with those front rotors?
I went with this 5 lug conversion kit from LMR and wen i went to put in the c clips to the new axles i noticed the c clips were a bit too big foe the new axles, would not clip, they would fall off on their own, can anyone tell me why this would happen? Maybe i got the wrong axles
Will these work on my 79?
you guys have brake kits for 4 lug foxbodys?
Does this fit a 2.3?
Where can i buy this conversion kit?
That's not a "castle nut".
You missed the washer that goes in prior to the nut after the bearing is in for the front rotors. I'm sure you're aware of this mistake.
I take it these kits are 1984 ford tld compatible. with 8.8 rear end
Can you put an irs from the newer cobras on a fox body, if so is it worth it. Weight wise, handle power, functionallity.
Yes it will bolt up in work if u have the irs rear already it I wouldn't do irs swap get a nice SN95 8.8 disc brake rear but it depends on what you are looking to ur car ! There's a few videos about putting irs rears in foxbodys!
Planning on doing some round trac racing? Otherwise why in heck would you boi?
Why on earth would you leave drum brakes?
Big question is. Is there a way to tell the spline count on the rear axle without pulling the axles and before you order the wrong ones? Does the 87 lx convertible have a set spline count?
Stock axles that year would be 28 spline.
Great videos. But let me tell you customer service needs work. Had a problem with an order first they didn’t have the part , then said two weeks , when I called back two weeks later said oh sorry that’s not available. No one called me I had to call the guy was everything but polite. Still stupid me gave them another shot and made another order. They said I would receive my part in 2-4 days nope 8 days. CJ will not receive a third try from me.
I Llike CJ's videos, but their customer service sucks. I switched to LMC, they have good knowledgeable customer service and I get my parts on time. I don't know why CJ's customer service has turned to crap. They should really do something about it before they go belly up.
I bought my notch with the 5 lug swap already done, how do I get ahold of the proper brake pads and shoes and other various goods to do a brake job?
Oz-Mo Speed Shop might be ranger, aerostar, or explorer rear brakes.
What u have drums on rear 5 lug same as Mustang shoes unless u have a 10inch drum a 10 drum on the outside would be all smooth it wouldn't have the lil ribs that stick out on drums that is a 9" If you have a big ass rotor on the front probably Cobra but should say on the calibers! They do make 5 lug rotors that bolt right on take ur 4 lug rotor off put the 5 lug rotor right back on same calibers & brakes just a lug rotor!
George Lynch do your soundtrack?
Epic.
What keeps the c clips from falling out?
The pin in the differential won't allow the axles to move in far enough for the C clip to come out.
What size are those 5 lug drums 10inch ? Can you use the stock brake shoe with drum?
@john jones So just get 2 drums for a 89 Ford ranger cause I order 2 driver's side axles from Rock Auto does it matter if the drums or from a 7.5 or 8.8 rear !!! Thanks for any info
@john jones Thank you so much!!
The front discs dont sit all the way to the back on my 89 fox, does anyone know why? I did it exactly as this video but it doesnt work for me.
they don't fit all the way against the spindle?
good video but you can cut the music
Dang it took me forever to get my ponys I thought they was the best, sad to think I was working for "ugly" wheels
Trust me these were ugly. I only had two and they were missing the center caps.
Bill Tumas yea im missing one because it broke last time I took the wheel off,
As long as you like them man .
I don't think he meant the pony wheels themselves were ugly, I think he meant his were in bad shape. Pony wheels are still one of the nicest go to wheels for fox mustang guys.
Fresh rotors & drums.
Some new pads & linings, shouldn't break the budget.
We have other plans for a full brake upgrade to this car so we focused on showing you the process of converting to 5 lug.
Ok, no problem.
I just do not take any chances, with braking systems.
Never have, never will.
How come nobody fkin talks about sh_t granada spindles not fitting mustang v8 rotors?
