When Blue heard the gate open she was on guard just in case Herk came in.
Blue may be a miniature LaMancha. That would explain the small size of the babies. They look healthy and strong.

Agree. They are of a miniature breed? I would do more research? Their lung development sounded extremely loud and healthy unlike a premature kid. Strong healthy muscles allowing them to stand and nurse shortly after birth. They are both beautiful. Best wishes for their surprise kiddo's.
Mini LaManchas are 24-26in high for does. Bucks are 24-28 in high. Minis are a cross between standard LaManchas and Nigerian dwarfs. Pretty interesting.
The blue eyes are a Nigerian Dwarf trait, also.
I was thinking the same. I have lamancha goats and they are bigger than Blue.
When Blue is "cleaning up" the kids, it is not just to clean them. She is smelling to make sure they are her kids.
If she was in nature, you will see that she will hide the kids and then go out and graze. When she gets full, she will call them to come nurse. She will always smell their rears to be sure they are hers before allowing them to eat. You may want to consider another gate on the opposite side of that pen so that you can take her out and let her get some fresh green without having to deal with the other goats getting in there. If you don't do that you might try to prune some lower branches from your wooded area and give them to her to clean off.
Hidden Heights Farm did several good videos on the birthing and kids behavior.
I want to see them so bad after they are all dry and cleaned up by momma. I love it that one has brown on it and the other black. So much cuteness.
Notice that Blue is getting comfortable with Herc near her kids. When Houdini slipped through the fence towards Herc, she was not overreacting, Kyle and Shanon did, but not Blue. It is all coming together.
Blue doesn't like Herc, but she has seen how he reacts to Spruce and how he protects Spruce. It really is Mario she needs to be afraid of for her babies. As the only intact male, he would not want new baby males in or near his herd.

Boy oh boy have you got your hands full!! Houdini is going to keep you on your toes. I hope whenever Mamma has her babies they are girls. Miss Blue is doing an amazing job with her two and she is so gentle and sweet. What a joy!❤
Both are so precious but I love that little brown one. Looks like it could be related to Spruce. How precious they all are.
You will also need to make sure the kid can’t get through the gate door on the latch side. Looks like Houdini could slip through the wood door frame by pushing a tad.
They are so sweet and fun to watch. I feel sorry for Blue she looks stressed trying to keep up with them.

The little goatlets are so cute. The little brown one (Houdini) is really tiny & I'm glad you were there when he came thru the fence so you know it needs to be made more secure. I can imagine how upset you were when you couldn't find him. But Herc knew where he was & he's a good guard dog & protector, especially of the little goats. I'm sure at least the little goats will be OK with him as they get a little older. Hopefully, Blue will be, too.
We all gasped when Houdini got out of the pen. Herc is so sweet he just watches and doesn’t push his way but wants to see the babies so bad. Blue needs to trust him and maybe she will soon. Kyle it wouldn’t e the same without you narrating for us. You make it so interesting with you talking for the animals. 😂😂♥️
Those are the sweetest babies I have seen in a while. Blue is a very good mom. Kyle has some work to do. Shannon enjoy the cuddles while you can.
You should have seen the surprise on my face when Houdini went through that fence!! 😲 I'm so glad you were there to observe it so you know to make it a priority to fix it. They are just adorable!!! Blue is a wonderful mama. Of course, Spruce and Herc are still the stars!

Herc is so anxious to meet the "goatlets." They are adorable! Blue seems to be doing a little bit better with Herc. When the escape artist was making his move and Herc was right there, Blue didn't even try to head butt him through the fence, which I thought she was going to do. Your work is never done. Especially when you are trying to get so much accomplished and you get extra surprises and jobs added to your list. However, you two are doing a great job. You might consider a shallower bucket for water. When the goatlets start jumping, you don't want one of them to accidentally drown. That happened to Zion Creek Farms. Last video was great. You all are doing a great job!

Herc was so good sitting there calmly watching the goatlets. When Houdini escaped, Herc was right there being a gentle protector. That was so sweet. Spruce sounding off and running to the fence when he knew you two were there. Think he will always be that way. Speaking of Spruce, I really liked your Spruce Lee T-shirt.

I don't think you need to worry about the kids being premature. They look strong and healthy. Blue looks small for a purebred LaMatcha. A female should be at least 28 inches at the shoulder. Although I can't measure her, I suspect she may be crossed with a smaller breed giving her the heavier body type and smaller goatlets. Congratulations.
Maybe a dwarf Nigerian.
Yes Blue is a miniature Lamancha. So is Chad's Oreo. This means they are about the size of a Nigerian Dwarf goat. Average birth weight of the kids is 3-5 lbs. At least that's what I have seen on the dairy goat farms I follow. Have fun with your mini Lamanchas! 💖💖💖

I've watched theburths 3 times now and you two. Are an amazing couple working everything out together.
So proud of you Shannon for seeing the birth . And stomaching it. I remember being a kid on the farm mum worked at seeing the lambing and helping if the lamb was left in the sack I had to split it open so the lamb could breath I was extremely ill. But soon got used to the gooey mess . When the lamb gets up and bleats for mumma.

Houdini was born second but he seems to be the stronger one and he's getting around much better than his older brother. I know it's early in their development but in this one and the last video it seemed like the little black/white guy is having leg or strength issues. He kept laying down and not wanting to play with his brother. I hope he is ok and continues to gain his strength. 🐐💙🐐

I had dwarfs and they do not look premature, they have the dwarf look. They are both strong and standing, trying to nurse after birth. Blue is a great mom. Wonderful surprise.

What a pleasure it was to watch the two little new goat lets and Blue get acclimated to being a family amongst the rest of the animals.
