"Did not finish" is still world's better than "did not start"! Thank you TRC once again and Anna, for sharing another challenge that did not end as expected. There are reasons we runners have more platitudes than most others like "if it was easy, everyone would do it." Great effort and you made it farther than the overwhelming majority of us, even experienced runners would. So, be proud and now, you have another reason to do it again!!!
That's pretty standard in UK races. if you aren't prepared to do that, or haven't trained for it. Don't enter. Not all of us can cry our way into Boston!
I hadn’t realised the video was coming to an end and I was dreading Anna finishing. Once blisters establish themselves the fun disappears from any distance event. I was so relieved when she decided to DNF and with nothing but pride for what she’d achieved.
Every video I watch of Anna taking on challenges I always end up in tears. Anna you are an absolute inspiration with everything you set your mind to. Sometimes, we need to set our minds to pulling back and looking after ourselves and that can almost be the toughest challenge.
One of the best videos I’ve watched on TRC or any running content ever. It’s not always about winning or hitting PBs, running is about the adventure, comradery, facing your limits, having fun, and being grateful for the full breadth of the human experience! Well done Anna for taking on the challenge, making the right call , and being a great presenter and inspiration 💪
Excellent video. Well done, Anna. What an incredible achievement and a beautiful run - you made the right decision. I love the longer form race content and this is one of the best. Well done, team 👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely. And I was battling a chest infection going into it, unbeknownst to me. The medic at the final aid station picked up on it and suggested it could turn into pneumonia if I went back out in those conditions
Anna, you are an absolute superstar! Super proud of you :) You made the right decision, for sure. Also, potatoes are the best thing ever :D Loved your mum giving you lots of support! YOU ROCK!
Absolutely amazing, and 100% the right decision with wet kit in those conditions. The mountains will still be there for another day! As for music and emotions, I was doing The Lap September this year, as I was climbing Wansfell, the lighting was perfect, the view was incredible, and I put on some 'sea shanties' and the song 'Cornwall' by fisherman's friends came on and the hairs were standing up, and my eyes started watering. Those moments, finish or not are what we do Ultras for, and also what give us the drive to grow as people. Whether it is a good or bad race in our heads, we always come out of a race a more improved person, and learn something new.
Anna you have been one of my greatest influences in my running for years now. They say it's inevitable when you start running and now you've taught me how to say enough. I'm old enough to be your dad so I will say I'm proud of you too. Let's keep going knees up chin up. Cheers girl from NC
You are so big inspiration for me. I'm running for years now trying to go back and prepare to 100km. Love this sentence "who wants to do something when you guaranteed to succeed all the time".
Saying "I'll just carry on", while pushing blistered feet up a mountain in cold rain and blustery wind is the most English thing ever. No shame, Anna - you've shown what a badass queen you are. It took so much courage just to start, and to push on for an entire day, through that weather? I am so impressed by you and your effort.
I think this paints an honest picture of trail running. You can have the best plans but nature is superior and you have to respect it. Well done on making the hard but good decision. The trails will be there next time.
Aw. I really feel for you Anna. When I felt down someone said to me "dont be hard on yourself. There are millions out there that didn't get off their backsides" Take heart from the fact that you competed to the best of ability and thats's all you can do. There will always be another day and another racee. I am so proud of you. Onwards and upwards Anna. Keep going❤❤ you are are awesome.
Never, never compromise on fuel (food) bc you have to have more clothes. If you need to have winter clothes with you, bring a larger back pack with you them. Playing with food by not having it with you can be a dangerus game to play. Congrats on taking the challenge still 🙌
Kudos to Anna for gutting it out that far in those adverse conditions. She's always an inspiration. Looking forward to more of her challenges and videos.
Anna I'm so proud of you for making that tough decision! No one wants to cut races short but sometimes you have to do what's best for you, your body, and your mental well-being!! Thank you for sharing this side of distance running, it's something that's not often shown on social media☺
I think you made a very wise and mature choice. To continue would have been dangerous. Mountains in the dark in cold, wet weather with poor visibility should be taken VERY seriously. Especially when you are already cold and exhausted. Congrats on an epic run! And I agree with many others... this was a very important video to share. Too often, as runners, we push too hard and take risks we shouldn't for the sake of our egos. Hope you enjoyed a cosy, warm night after your exploits on the mountains!
Absolute admiration for you Anna, thank you for taking us on your journey, watching the laughter, smiles and tears is why we put our bodies to the test, such as this 100km trail run. You have given myself a challenge to take on hopefully next year as you have inspired me to push myself a bit more in my running journey. 😆.
Absolutely love Anna's vids. Well done Anna. Always an inspiration to see you doing these things. You are obviously amazing but it's great to be able to watch 'ordinary' people running and not just super fast young fellas!
I know the exact feeling as I had to do the same thing this year with Race to the Stones. Everything's wet, you're blistered, and you're heading into the night...not a great feeling. Anyway, very well done on the race and the decision making.
Absolutely the right decision and with poor visibility in the next section making the next cut off would have been pretty much impossible. As one of your friends said it's only a real challenge if you're not certain of completing it. Thanks for the video
Runners are a funny breed, you can achieve what 99% of people could never do but if it’s a dnf it’s devastating! Book …train….we go again! Well done on an excellent try. You are amazing ❤
What a legend, sometimes the hard decision is to say enough is enough. Looking forward to your next challenge as I know there will always be one more!!!
Anna, that was such a gritty attempt at the 100km! Weather can be such a bugger at times and there's no coming back from soaking wet gear when it's forecast for more rain and wind! Take all the learnings from this race, and girl, onto the next one 🙂... Tarawera in NZ.....
I love watching you on the channel Anna, find your grit and vulnerability so inspiring. Thank you for letting us in on your journey, so glad you decided to call it 💓
Your ultra running experience really shines here. Unstudied new route section, low visibility at night and no spare headtorch - this was definitely the right call. The fact that you had two other runners to stick to could have been a consideration, but you'd have to agree to stick together and that's hard when you're close to the cutoff time. I keep learning from you Anna!
Unfortunately Rich and Matt had already made the call that they wouldn’t continue, which was another consideration of mine to call it. My watch battery was dangerously low, and the medic picked up on my cough as being a chest infection - which I’ve had to have antibiotics and 2 weeks off to recover from 😢so many things stacked against me continuing 😔
Anna, what I love about you is your tenacity and how much heart you have for everything you do. You absolutely made the right decision. And that decision never negates what you've done, who you are and what a testament you are to your sport and to all of us here!
Emotional 😥 WOW❗ this video was the most Emotional 😥 Running video I have ever watched❗ In my view Anna You👈 are still the Queen of ultra Running. You have NOT failed, far from it The Blood, sweat and the Tears😥 you shed Was for what you achieved not what you didn't achieve. The achievement was that you gave it your all. 🌟
weather conditions play a huge part in ultras too, wet boggy/muddy terrain saps the life out of the legs too. great great effort in those conditions anna!!!!
You made the right decision Anna. It still was a fantastic achievement what you accomplished. I would have thrown the towel in as soon as it started raining.
Well done Anna, DNF. or not yours are always the best vids. I'm an ultra cyclist with a few dnf myself ( it's part of the game) and I always learn so much from your events. Keep it up!! Looking forward to your next vid.
Anna ur a star, honestly hun I’m sat here watching this in bed and Im like - there is absolutely no way I could have carried on, the prospect of going back out there in the dark in the rain when ur already freezing cold and chasing a tight cut off - u absolutely made the right decision - u done amazingly well Anna, I hope u listened to ur brilliant mummy - mummy’s always tell the truth 😊🥰 xxx
I just love Anna’s videos. She is just delightful, inspiring and relatable. I find myself getting emotional with her in the high’s and low’s. So amazing!
Oh Anna! 😭 My heart bleeds for you but like your mum said, look at what you *did* achieve! The Lakes, whilst utterly beautiful, is incredibly brutal, even on a lovely clear day. Being in the mountains in the rain and wind isn't all that much fun, trust me, i've walked them enough to know, I can't imagine trying to run the distance you did. Even stepping up to the start line, with all the prep you put in was a huge achievement! I'm so glad you had the other 2 muskateers with you to keep your spirits up. Be proud of what you achieved, it might have been an official DNF but your heart and spirit clearly won the day.
Anna, love seeing you back on your adventures, you were one of the first that I started following when I took up running before Covid - hopefully I will get back to it again soon. A huge congrats to you
the right call for sure - i know that feeling and it's horrible. very well done for what you did, that was a tough, technical and hilly route, so i think you should be proud. there will always be another race, but important to make sure you're safe - and DNFing this one was the right call.
Anna. I am crying with you. But you are so strong and smart for making the proper decision. I know for a fact I would have kept going even when I definitely should stop. Thank you for taking the DNF with grace. Truly and inspiration❤
That was a very frank & honest account of what it can be like to compete in an event of this nature. Well done for giving your very best on the day. You made the correct decision to stop & have nothing to be ashamed of . You're a wee star.
Wow Anna ….well done…that looked really really grim and I think you made a brave and wise decision to stop there….that weather was truly atrocious! But some stunning views….. ❤
I admire you so much Anna! It takes courage to head out on challenges when you now there's no guarantee for success, know it's going to be hard as hell
Having recently spent 14 hours slogging through constant rain in Wales, you have my deepest sympathies. It’s “only” water but it can be so demoralising. Still an amazing effort in truly challenging conditions and terrain 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
OMG I was crying at the end with you Anna! You were amazing. Was lovely to see you at the first check point. Gutted it went a bit pear shaped but you’ll be back! I tell you what though watching it did make me just want to get out on the fells xx
Well done Anna! I loved how real this video was in showing the good, the bad and the ugly or running. The greatness of running is in showing up and trying out the hard thing, and this video highlights this beautifully.
Anna did great! It is a challenge, not supposed to be easy! This is what it’s all about! Can’t wait for next video when Anna takes on a challenge and nails it(or dnfs it, and goes for next challenge)! ❤
Such a good effort and an inspiration! I did the 2 Valleys this year and I’m going back for the 5 Valleys next year. Hands down the best and the toughest race I’ve ever done but that’s why we do these things, think of the people that wouldn’t even be able to attempt this!
Anna, you simply are amazing! Remember those horrble people that said you can't run! Well look what you just did, simply amazing. The tough races and the ones that don't go to plan are the ones that make you stronger. Oh I agree, mums are amazing!
Updated - Anna you will be an amazing mum! Congratulations. I was so impressed when you told me at the National Running Show that you found out soon after this that your were pregnant. So impressed with all you ladies.
Well done Anna! Your mum is right, we’re all very proud of you. Still an amazing achievement in really tough circumstances. Hope you’re feeling better now xx
Awesome effort Anna - was lovely meeting you earlier in the year when you were going off to do a section in preparation As always your mother is entirely right ❤
Excellent effort Anna, you've inspired me to try a ultra in the future. Your video was very informative and those conditions were brutal. Better to stop and look after your health. Hope you feel better soon and you will smash your next Ultra. ❤🏃🏃💪💪💪👍👍
Bloody good effort Anna. Classic line “do you have potatoes here?” 😂 love it. The Lakes is a beast when it’s wet so no shame in a DNF. Sterling effort 🤜
"Did not finish" is still world's better than "did not start"! Thank you TRC once again and Anna, for sharing another challenge that did not end as expected. Good advice!
I love your mom reminding you of all you already achieved today, moms are amazing ❤
Sure are!
She’s definitely a special one ❤
Totally agree. My mum has stood in the rain being my support crew! Mums everywhere...you are all amazing
Good run nonetheless,Anna.Come on over here in the Philippines and try an ultra😊
The thought of heading out into a dark and wet night, already drenched to the bone...😱 Great effort, Anna 👍🏻💪🏃♂️
And with a chest infection to boot 😢
That's pretty standard in UK races. if you aren't prepared to do that, or haven't trained for it. Don't enter. Not all of us can cry our way into Boston!
I need more Anna content! Shes always so inspiring
I have always loved Anna's vids , something pure about strength of character comes accross in the vlogs that are shot , very welll done!
💪
Thanks Anna. You probably helped more people with this video than perhaps any other. You did an awesome job. Way to go.
Glad it was helpful!
I hadn’t realised the video was coming to an end and I was dreading Anna finishing. Once blisters establish themselves the fun disappears from any distance event. I was so relieved when she decided to DNF and with nothing but pride for what she’d achieved.

Thanks so much 🙏🏼 that’s so kind
As always, Anna never fails to impress. Love that mum was there to remind her how awesome she is. Those conditions were nasty.
Couldn't agree more!
Excellent video. Well done, Anna. What an incredible achievement and a beautiful run - you made the right decision. I love the longer form race content and this is one of the best. Well done, team 👍🏻👍🏻
DNF - Did nothing fatal! Go again on the next one Anna. Bloody awful weather that. Always going to chuck it down up there though eh!
YOU ROCK!
Your mom spoke wise words: you achieved so much!! The weather didn’t lend you any favors, but this is so inspirational
Huge respect to you, that looked like an incredibly hard challenge.
Absolutely amazing, and 100% the right decision with wet kit in those conditions. The mountains will still be there for another day!

you can be very proud of that achievement that a lot of people wouldn't even start. Well done. Really great character and example to others too.
Huge respect Anna. You should be proud of how far you got. Tough challenge but that's why we do it.
Thank you 🙏🏼 I’m super proud 😊
Anna, you are amazing! Bless your wee mum too ❤
So inspiring, really amazing stuff. Along with all the other comments on her, I agree we need more Anna content

Haha - "I'm Gallopin' - Selecta!" Awesome running tune. Super well done - wonderfully honest video and still amazingly inspiring to watch!
You're the best Anna. I love watching your epic missions and your honesty throughout. And yeah isn't your Mum lovely ❤ Cheers, Amy, NZ
Anna, you inspire me. You made the right decision, and because you did, others who watch this video, will too, if they need to. Well done.
Aww Anna you are amazing! You are truly my inspiration! Also your mum is so lovely

I remember that marathon in the garden she did. That is one of the sickest things I have ever seen. I mean that in a good way. Well done, Anna!
Well done Anna. I love watching your races.
Woot woot an Anna video... Classic 'drama llama' ... Will now watch the rest 😃
🦙
Anna, love seeing you back on your adventures, you were one of the first that I started following when I took up running before Covid - hopefully I will get back to it again soon. A huge congrats to you

Thank you 🙏🏼
Very brave. You did so well. The good thing about trail running is that there is always another one.
Absolutely
Well done Anna you did awseome. Good luck for your next ultra ❤️✌️🏴
Wow Anna ….well done…that looked really really grim and I think you made a brave and wise decision to stop there….that weather was truly atrocious! But some stunning views….. ❤
If possible I would have given you the biggest like for the video. Such an amazing inspirational woman.
I love videos with Anna! You're so inspiring. Take good care.
Respect Anna, live to fight another day!
I admire you so much Anna! It takes courage to head out on challenges when you now there's no guarantee for success, know it's going to be hard as hell
I always cry watching Anna’s adventures. Inspiring human!
Having recently spent 14 hours slogging through constant rain in Wales, you have my deepest sympathies. It’s “only” water but it can be so demoralising. Still an amazing effort in truly challenging conditions and terrain 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your mum comforting you sent me over the edge 😢 good job Anna and good job Mum ❤
Anna, you are just the best. I love following your attempts and successes. Keep at it for those of us who will NEVER try this sort of thing. :-)
Making the right decision takes a lot of courage too. You did amazing. We need more Anna content!
OMG I was crying at the end with you Anna! You were amazing.
Was lovely to see you at the first check point. Gutted it went a bit pear shaped but you’ll be back!
I tell you what though watching it did make me just want to get out on the fells xx
Thank you so much, Marie 🙏🏼
Well done Anna! I loved how real this video was in showing the good, the bad and the ugly or running. The greatness of running is in showing up and trying out the hard thing, and this video highlights this beautifully.

Anna is so great, such an inspiration.

Massive repect for what you achieved - and it WAS quite an achievement. Well done!!!! Inspirational
Always love Anna's adventures. Super raw and inspirational!
Thank you 🙏🏼
100% the right decision.
Still an amazing achievement!
At the last check point when you asked ‘do you have potatoes here?’ Literally made me cry 😢
They were honestly so good! 🥔
Such a legend be very proud xxx ps you made me cry
I was following you on the Tracker. You lined up and gave it a go, that is all that can be asked for. There is always next year.
Crazy technical course! You're amazing! 👊👊👊
Well done Anna! Your mum is right, we’re all very proud of you. Still an amazing achievement in really tough circumstances. Hope you’re feeling better now xx
Great achievement Anna and you made the right call. Well done! you'll go again at the right time.

Awesome effort Anna - was lovely meeting you earlier in the year when you were going off to do a section in preparation
As always your mother is entirely right ❤

Excellent effort Anna, you've inspired me to try a ultra in the future. Your video was very informative and those conditions were brutal. Better to stop and look after your health. Hope you feel better soon and you will smash your next Ultra. ❤🏃🏃💪💪💪👍👍
Bloody good effort Anna. Classic line “do you have potatoes here?” 😂 love it. The Lakes is a beast when it’s wet so no shame in a DNF. Sterling effort 🤜
I can’t explain to you how good those potatoes were! They had vinegar and salt on 😋
You made the right decision. So glad you had your mum there for hugs.
