Exploring an Old Salt Mine and Finding Calcite Crystals in Salina Canyon

  • ‪@monstertrent52‬invites us to an abandoned salt mine where we find incredible calcite specimens and pure halite (salt) nodules. This is an uplifted salt dome on the edge of the Wasatch Plateau surrounded by gypsum and limestone with immaculate crystalline calcite throughout the entire hillside. This is a brief exploration, but provides an overview of this unique location and what can be found here.

    I have hiked up to that one hoping to find a portal. It was still awesome to check out anyway. nice little hike.

      Yeah, it looks like there were some mine workings just across the wash, with some timbers for ore shoots or something of the sort. In that working, there is a depression that looks like water flows into it and doesn't resurface. I've wondered for a long time if there is a big salt cave under the ground there.

      @@GemstoneJournalist I seen them tembers as well and was thinking the same thing. I would love to go dig down and see if their is a void that would be awesome.
