@@katrinabrown Ahh! Katrina! This is the PERFECT rec for my April themed reading which is themed around Southern Horror. (I think I’m gonna call it “southern scares” heheh). THIS IS PERFECT! Saved it to my Libby TBR. 👻👻
Awesome video, Lauren! ❤ Thanks for the shout out. I absolutely loved hosting this Readathon and experiencing so much joy through reading the folktales, fairy tales, and fables. And, Pinocchio was AMAZING. I’m still carrying my love for it in my heart. I definitely plan to host Folklore February next year and plan to expand. As I mentioned during sprints, I’d love it if you would want to cohost with me. 😊
Wow-what an amazing reading month you had. I know Christina Henry writes some pretty dark retellings; like Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. I’ve never read any but would love to check them out. Guillermo Del Toro is brilliant, one of my fave directors/storytellers. Have you seen his movie Pans Labryinth it is one of my favorite movies of all time. A beautifulbut very very dark fairytale story. Love that movie so much, it’s Spanish with English subtitles but just a beautiful sad tale.
Thank you so much for watching!! ☺️ I have only read one book of hers, and it was the retelling of Sleepy Hollow, and I did not like it at all. It just felt two young adult, and I don’t think that was what it was supposed to be! But maybe if I have less expectations that it will be horror and more fantasy, I will enjoy her stuff more. And I have not seen that movie. 😮 Some thing I need to focus on soon is getting to his backlisted films!! Thanks for all the reccomendations 👻
I definitely want to read Fairest of All! I used to read a book series called Kingdom Keepers and all of the rides and characters at Disneyland Park in Florida would come to life at night 🧙♀
Loved this! I am a huge fan of dark fairytales. I am definitely going to watch Pinocchio by Guillermo Del Toro - it looks fantastic. I love claymation!!
P.s. I recommend House of Salt and Sorrows - it's a YA retelling of the twelve dancing princesses fairytale and I had a lot of fun reading it last year. It's surprisingly dark for a YA
Thank you so much for the rec! I love dark fairytale retellings because I think it’s just so much more interesting and realistic than the “happily ever after” nonsense 🤪 And I LOVE claymation too! It’s why I am such a big Tim Burton fan!
What a fun month you had! The Sister Who Ate Her Brothers has been on my list since I saw Crystal from Fiberartsy talk about it. The Disney Villain series sounds fabulous! Beast is my favorite, so I’m sure I’d love that one. 😈 I need to get on Guillermo’s Pinocchio. You’ve shared so many intriguing stories in this video. Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Crystal such an influencer!! You definitely would love the beast book because you get a really deep look into who he is as a character pre-transition into a beast and he is honestly more of a butthead as a human lol
Omg your intro is everything!!!! 😍 I actually love seeing the POV from the villains perspective and sometimes it’s so heartbreaking as to why they became a villain! I will give these a try!! 😊
What a great list! Definitely adding a couple of these to my TBR. Really wish I could have gotten in on Folklore February this year. I couldn’t buy any new books and didn’t have any on my shelves.
This was a great wrap up for Folklore February. I’m so glad you liked The Sister Who Ate Her Brother! I really loved it. I liked The Jumbies too-it’s a fun one. The villain books sounds like great fun. I’ll have to add them to my list. I really want to watch both of this movies!
Thanks so much for watching!! 🥰 If I had to choose a favorite from The Sister collection, I think it would have to be the one where the wife who makes delicious tea befriends all the ghosts in the mansion lol. Or maybe the one where the mermaid keeps the souls locked up!
@@happyhauntslibrary yes I loved those too. And the one where the man threw his wives in the well and one had a baby down there! That one was kinda wild!
Ohh I was never really interested in Pinocchio but you definitely made me intrigued! and the Disney Villains books also sound great, growing up I always wanted to be Maleficient or Ursula rather than the princess hehe
You should give Pinocchio a shot 😍 And I definitely respond more to the Disney villains than the heroes haha. That’s why I love this book series so much!
Thank you for this video! I wasn't sure if I would like the villains series but now I am more open to them. I also am very interested in reading the original tales now that you said they're darker!
I'm so glad! Disney has two official retelling book series that I am just starting, one is Villains and the other is Twisted Tales (what if things didn’t go as they did in the movies?). I have only read one of the TT books and they’re okay so far. The first book is on Aladdin, which isn’t my fave movie so I’m waiting for a book that covers a movie I really love to decide if I want to move forward with the series or not. But the Villains series I am 100000% continuing!
I've wondered how those villain books were, but have not picked one up. I wanted to participate more in this readathon, but I got so distracted last month. I had no idea pinocchio was done by del toro....I need to check that out! Your videos are always so beautiful 💕
Thank you so much 🥰 You are the sweetest! I have a lot of fun with the creative side, which is why I don’t post as often since that takes quite a bit of time to do. Let me know if you end up trying out the Villains series. I am having a whole lot of fun with it!!
@@happyhauntslibrary Yes, I can tell it takes time, but it is worth it! I think I will see if my library has the villains series and read them that way. I need to finish swan song first!
I adored the intro and the entire idea of this video is so cool! I've been adoring folklore retellings lately, but I'm definitely more and more intrigued by fairytale retellings and I have quite a few on my tbr. Have you read Juniper and Thorn?
I've not heard of the film La Llorona but I am intrigued!!
Oh I am so obsessed with it!
The Jumbies sounds so cute! I just read Root Magic and it was adorable! Ohh, I need to watch La Llorona! Awesome wrap-up!
Is Root Magic written by the same author or is that a sequel to Jumbies?? 😍
@@happyhauntslibrary it's by Eden Royce and it looks like it's their only middle grade! It was focused on Gullah traditions 🤗

Ok subscribed immediately! I LOVE this channel babe. I’ll be watching away 🧡✨
Ahhhhh!!! You are the sweetest 🥰 Thank you so much! Can’t wait for what’s next in your evolution as a creator! 👻
Lots of the original folk tales are really creepy.
Great Video 👍😁👍

Adding everything to tbr! Your editing 👏🥰

I already wanted to read the sister who are her brothers, but now that I’ve seen the artwork I want to read it even more!
