Fun fact: The reason why the stormtroopers were made missing all their shots, was because it was intentional. They put a tracker on the ship so that they would lead them to the Rebel base, so it would be pretty counterproductive to kill them, but they didn’t wanna make it seem like they were letting them get away. So they were intentionally shooting and missing. However, if you remember, Leia was still smart enough to pick up the fact that it was too easy and that something was up. Now why stormtroopers still miss their shots in the other movies is beyond me.

    • @Rystefn
      @Rystefn 8 місяців тому

Facts. The Stormtroopers get a bad rap. Missing on purpose while your friends are getting shot up around you because the plan is to let the enemy get away is seriously hardcore. Those guys had some iron discipline for that to work. They also kicks ass pretty decisively in Empire. They just steamroll the base on Hoth like there weren't even any defenders there to worry about. It's the stupid teddy bear fight where they actually start to suck, and then it became a meme, and they were doomed.

    • @Aeroldoth3
      @Aeroldoth3 4 місяці тому

What always bothered me was that even though Leia saw that the empire let them go, she STILL goes straight to the rebel base. "Oh noez I bet they're tracking us! Oh well, let's head home."

That is what good music does. It’s supposed to reach your soul. And you cannot get much better than the genius that is John Williams. We have been SO lucky to have had him for so long. To have one composer complete the entire 9 films across several decades is miraculous. He is the level to whom all film composers look to - even Zimmer has his John Williams moment in his composing.
The score was a surprise even back then - full on orchestral scores were out of favour. But it’s what Lucas wanted and my God weren’t we lucky?!

On the one hand, this was a relatively low-budget movie that was saved by the music and editing. On the other hand, it was groundbreaking in terms of world building and special effects. They built spaceships with model battleship parts from a hobby shop and also invented computer controlled camera mounts for the space battle scenes.

    • @denistardif6650
      @denistardif6650 11 місяців тому +3

This is true. For example Han solo's gun is a modified C96 broom handle Mauser that they slapped a scope and muzzle on to make it look futuristic. Much TLC was put in the editing and special effects but the actors general idea was that it was going to flop so they had fun and would joke around a lot on set and it ended being much bigger than what they anticipated leading to a cult classic box office duchesse and biggest sci-fi franchise other than star trek and alien.

The first time Darth Vader is seen in this movie is the first time he was *ever* seen, and it had such a dramatic effect.
Don't worry about tearing up at the music. Music can convey emotions in a way mere words never can. That's one reason opera continues to be so popular, because the music enhances the words being sung.
Luke didn't equate Ben with Obi-Wan because he didn't use the name after he left Luke with his aunt and uncle.
The scene between Han and Jabba was filmed for 'New Hope', using a human actor, but never used. (The Hutts first officially appeared in 'Return of the Jedi', so their look hadn't been determined at this stage.) When the scene was included in the Special Edition, they had to CGI the accepted look over the human actor. This posed a problem when Han walked behind Jabba, so they digitally raised Han, adding a grunt from Jabba as Han stepped on his tail.
By the way, Ewan McGregor studied Alec Guinness' speech patterns when he took the role of Obi-Wan for the prequel trilogy.
C3PO and R2D2 have been described as the Laurel and Hardy of the Star Wars universe.
Pilot Wedge Antilles (Red Two in the trench run) is played by Denis Lawson, the uncle of Ewan McGregor.

Please bear in mind, that this was 1977. We were mesmerized by the special effects. The fact that the movie was well-written was almost secondary. We all taped flashlights to sticks and had our own epic battles in the woods...with our version of lightsabers.

'Food in Star Wars never looks appetizing.' They live on a desert planet! There is nothing there. Luke's uncle Owen and his aunt Beru are moisture farmers! They are lucky to have anything to eat at all.
What they were drinking is called Blue Milk. It is made from the milk of female Banthas. A large hairy elephant like creature. It looks kind of like a bull crossed with an elephant. It has large curly horns.

Masking one self from the Force is what the Emperor used to not be detected by the Jedi until it was too late if you remember the prequels you watched.
The Jedi were like Templar monks, they also have a civilian branch that acts like the Church but with the Whills of the Force as divinities and the Force as their vector through which they express themselves.
Clones were replaced by Stormtroopers because clones were super expansive and hard to produce fast. Stormtroopers are conscripts and most of them are not that well trained. Plus the Force is the biggest plot armor device you could find and protects the main characters until their purpose is fullfilled.

It’s absolutely OK to be emotional by the music. If it was not for John Williams, his music, Star Wars wouldn’t of been as big as sex success as it was. John Williams, without a doubt, is one of the best composers of our time. The man was a genius and legend, and did the soundtrack to the majority of the best movies ever made, and if I’m being honest, what I think made the movies great was his music. The man took 2 notes and a cello, and gave you a villain that terrified the world. Speaking of course of his soundtrack for jaws.

Welcome to the world of Star Wars.
I will give some information for a better understanding of the universe.
The Empire is a huge state that includes many planets and extends to most of the known galaxy, not counting some of the systems at the far edge. Initially, the empire was a constitutional monarchy, whose political affairs were governed not only by the emperor, but also by the senate, which includes a representative from each planet belonging to the empire, but after the creation of the Death Star, the senate was dissolved and power finally passed into the hands of the Emperor. Initially, the Empire was a galactic republic, but as a result of a series of events, the Lord of the Sith came to power, who proclaimed himself emperor (you will learn more about this in the prequels)
Now about the structure of the Force, in this period of time, the two most powerful and well-known orders of forseusers are the Sith and the Jedi, they came from one ancient order of force users who served both its aspects - the Dark and the Light side. The dark and light side of the force are not the good and evil side, they represent two different currents of force and were named by members of the very first order in honor of the two moons that were satellites of the planet where this order was based, one was made of white stone, the other of black. This ancient order practiced a balance between the sides, the light one is more calm and creative, the dark one is more emotional and destructive. But over time, this order banned the study of the dark side of the force and focused on the light side, becoming the Jedi Order from the time. Once there was a split within the order and some members of the supreme Council were exiled to unknown regions of the galaxy because of the desire to study the dark side of the force. These fallen Jedi found the planet Korriban (or Morraband), where a humanoid undeveloped red-skinned race lived, which had a huge connection with the dark side. The fallen Jedi quickly subdued this race, which called itself the Sith, after which they named themselves the Sith Lords, creating a new order of force users, which was focused only on the dark side. With the passage of time, several major wars occurred between the newly created Sith Empire and the Old Republic, which included the Jedi as guardians of peace and justice. As a result, the Sith were almost destroyed several times, losing wars due to constant betrayals and internecine power struggles. But then a Sith lord was born, named Darth Bane, he created the rule of two, the rule that there can only be two Sith master and apprentice, a master to embody power, apprentice to reach for this power. When an apprentice becomes more powerful than a master, he kills him and takes his place, taking a new apprentice, the Sith were forced to go underground, but began to develop thanks to this. Darth Bane, after creating this rule, killed all the remaining Sith, becoming a master and taking a girl as an apprentice, who eventually killed him and, taking his place, continued the path of the Rule of Two.
Sith and Jedi have opposite ideologies and philosophies, and most importantly - an attitude to the Force, Jedi serve the force, cutting themselves off from everything mundane, they are forbidden to take wives or husbands, have children, have property, nothing should cause affection and emotions and distract from serving the Force. Emotions lead to the dark side of the force, so the Sith raise their emotions to the absolute, they feed on them, most often hatred and rage, as one of the most powerful emotions, but also any other, if the Jedi serve the force like monks, then the Sith use the force to get what they want. Even the powers of the dark side and the light side are different, the light side is more creative and protective (force push, mind deception), when the dark side is more destructive and aggressive (force choke, force lightning)
Now to the more relevant:) At the moment, thanks to political intrigues, the Sith lord Darth Sidious gained power over the galaxy, after which, with the help of his apprentice Darth Vader, he almost destroyed the Jedi Order, the Jedi are forced to hide without having contact with each other in the hope of someday being able to fight back.
Oh yes, well, the names of the Sith Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, etc. are not names given at birth, they receive them when they join the order, the prefix Darth literally means Lord in the language of the Sith.
    The code of the sith
Peace is a lie. There is only Passion.
    Through Passion, I gain Strength.
    Through Strength, I gain Power.
    Through Power, I gain Victory.
Through Victory my chains are Broken.
    The Force shall free me
    The code of the Jedi
There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.

"The Force will be with you, always."
Fun Fact: The first movie to make over $300 million domestic box office. It was also the first movie to cross $500 million worldwide in its initial release.
Action Star Fact: Stunt doubles were not used for the scene where Luke and Leia swing to safety in the Death Star. Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher performed the stunt, shooting it in just one take.
CGI Over Practical Fact: All the CGI was added in the late 90s and NOT part of the original release. I don't mind the changes, except for originally Han Solo (Harrison Ford) shot Greedo (Paul Blake) before the bounty hunter could do anything.
Gun Enthusiast Fact: The weapons the stormtroopers used were essentially the Sterling L2A3 9mm SMG (sub-machine gun), a military weapon developed in the late 1940s in the U.K. and adopted by the British and Canadian Armies in the 1950s. The curved left entry side mounted magazine was removed, and that was as much as it was modified for the movie. The longer sandtrooper weapon was the MG-34 machine gun from Germany.
Location Location Fact: The Tatooine scenes were filmed in Tunisia. There is a town in Tunisia's rural south named Tataouine (Berber for "eyes") and George Lucas liked the name so much, he adopted it for Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) home world. Some of the interiors and the courtyard of Luke's house were filmed in a hotel in Matmata, Tunisia. One can visit this two-star hotel and see some pictures and the painted ceiling of what was used for the Lars' dining room. When Luke goes out of the farm, he appears in a flat deserted area, while the reality, when you get out of the hotel, there are a lot of other houses, small stone hills, and a lot of prickly pear cacti (a variety very common in Tunisia). The skeleton that C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) passes belongs to a Tatooine creature called a Greater Krayt Dragon. This artificial skeleton was left in the Tunisian desert after filming and still lies there. During filming of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (2002), the site was visited by the crew once more and the skeleton was still there.

I saw this in the theater the first weekend of its release in 1977. You had to be there then. The closest to this in special effects before had been 2001: A Space Odyssey, and that had been a whole decade earlier. On the big screen, that first scene of the star destroyer taking ten seconds to pass overhead immediately told us that we were in for a spectacle we'd never experienced before. You're right, there's a different feeling when you're watching The Original Hype that everything else is trying to live up to.
That crushing wall trap was an old, well-used trope in sci fi movies. Also, they're not fighting Clone troopers in this movie, they're fighting Storm Troopers. The Emperor had phased out the clones in favor of naturally born humans by this time.
I'm going to give you some different advice from most people: Make your next Star Wars movie Rogue One, and Andor after that. Then do episodes 5 and 6. You'll thank me later for that order of watch.

    Fun reaction :)
    Regarding the stormtrooper's accuracy:
    1. These are not clones. The Empire phased out the Clones over the 20 years that separate Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The Empire's stormtrooper are regular soldiers (volunteers and conscripts) that have become members of a special Elite branch of the Empire's military. Unlike the Imperial army and navy, they answer directly to imperial high command.
    2. Despite no longer being Mandalorian Clones, Stormtroopers are still deadly effective and you can get a glimpse of that during the very first battle aboard Leia's ship and how they massacred the Jawas. The reason why they can't hit the heroes for sh*t is mostly a case of plot armor.

I will NEVER forget seeing the Millennium Falcon make the jump to light speed for the first time. I turned to look at my dad and he was looking at me with the same expression. It was epic. Knowing this was the first episode in release order, how 'bout that Ewan McGregor and his efforts to sound like Sir Alec Guiness' elder Ben Kenobi? The only way to suppress the First is in the presence of ysalamiri, a lizard-like creature that repels the Force. A good place for a Jedi to hide would be on a planet with these creatures. The practical effects are all the more amazing when you realize the Death Star was built using battleship model kits.

The stormtroopers are not clones. Palpatine got rid of the clones in between the trilogies.
In this movie, there's a reason why the stormtroopers on the Death Star can't hit a barn door -- they've been instructed to let the intruders go so that the _Millennium Falcon_ can lead the Empire to the Rebels, they're only shooting at them at all so they don't get suspicious and find the tracking device. Unfortunately, the subsequent movies keep the poor aim without the justification.

    • @danielcopeland3544

@@Progger11 which doesn't explain why, at the start of this movie, Obi-Wan knew the hit on the Jawas wasn't done by Tuskens because "only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise." Stormtroopers were supposed to be _good_ fighters. The problem was the story demanded the good guys win despite being outnumbered, and that meant the bad guys had to keep missing.

Great reaction! Don't listen to anyone complaining about you watching the prequels first. The watch order doesn't really matter. However, each watch order is a unique experience. The "Machete order" is one that's gaining popularity, especially since there are more movies and TV shows to add. There will be an eternal debate as to what order to watch, but since you have seen some of the movies already, and you know the biggest reveals, it's perfectly okay for you to watch the Machete order. Anyone telling you that you have to continue with Release order is just gatekeeping your experience. The best part about Machete order is that it's customizable. You can just watch the movies, or you can add in some TV shows, or you can add animated shows. It's all up to you. Eventually, you'll get around to watching everything anyway.
If you wanted to do the Machete Order of the first 6 films, then this is the order:
    Ep. 4: A New Hope
    Ep. 5: Empire Strikes Back
    Ep. 1: The Phantom Menace
Ep. 2: Attack of the Clones
Ep. 3: Revenge of the Sith
    Ep. 4: ANH (again)
    Ep. 5: ESB (again)
Ep. 6: Return of the Jedi
I recommend watching ANH and ESB again to see how it all fits together, but do it on your own time. No need to record those reactions, but please record your reactions to the movies you've already watched as a kid.
If you wanted to add in the live action TV shows and 2 standalone films, then this would be the order:
    Ep. 4: ANH
    Ep. 5: ESB
    Ep. 1: TPM
    Ep. 2: AotC
    Ep. 3: RotS
    Solo: A Star Wars Story
    Obi-Wan Kenobi series
    Andor series
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    Ep. 4 ANH(again)
    Ep. 5 ESB (again)
    Ep. 6: RotJ
If you wanted to add in the animated shows, in addition to all live action stuff, then this is the order:
    Ep. 4: ANH
    Ep. 5: ESB
    Ep. 1: TPM
    Ep. 2: AotC
    Clone Wars animated movie
Clone Wars animated Seasons 1-7 (but save the last 4 episodes of S7 for after Ep. 3)
    Ep. 3: RotS
    CW S7: last 4 episodes
    Tales of the Jedi animated
    Bad Batch animated S1-2
    Solo
    Obi-Wan Kenobi
    Rebels animated S1-4
    Andor
    Rogue One
    Ep. 4: ANH (again)
    Ep. 5: ESB (again)
    Ep. 6: RotJ
Think of everything that takes place between Ep. 1 and Ep. 6 as Phase 1. Phase 2 would be everything afterwards. After you watch Ep. 6: RotJ, then this would be Phase 2:
    Mandalorian S1-2
    Book of Boba Fett series
    Mandalorian S3
    Ahsoka series
    Skeleton Crew (coming out 2024)
    Ep. 7: The Force Awakens
    Ep. 8: The Last Jedi
Resistance animated S1-2 (S1 takes place before and during TFA and S2 takes place during and a bit after TLJ so it makes sense to watch them after the two movies)
Ep. 9: The Rise of Skywalker
I promise, all this is not confusing. It only seems like it. The point of Phase 1 is to enjoy RotJ as the finale of that era, with everything that comes before as more context. Remember, it's up to you. There is no right or wrong way to watch SW. But there are unique ways that may be more enjoyable.

In all honesty, I think the reputation of storm troopers being bad shots is a bit undeserved. If we could add laser beam graphics to all bullets (so we can see the bullets) to virtually any video of cops/bad guys shootouts, or military gun battles, we would see that in real life just as many misses are made. It is not easy at all to hit what you want to hit in any sort of shootout.

I love sharing trivia, so here's a juicy piece of Star Wars history, there's a deleted scene from the beginning of this movie where Luke talks to his pal Biggs, and Biggs tells him about his plans to join the rebels. It got cut out for pacing reasons.
Matter of fact, the scene of Luke and Biggs being reunited before the attack on the Death Star was also deleted, but I guess George Lucas regretted that since he put it back in some time around 1997, and that scene's been re-included ever since.
