Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. What is with these mean Princesses? They need to be punished! Even though Shaoshang hurt Ling Buyi's feelings in their prior meeting, he is there again to defend her. And reinforcing again that he will only have her in his life and no one else. I'm telling you....I have the swoons for Ling Buyi like all the other women in this drama! I'm glad Shaoshang has finally come to realize what a great guy he is.

shaoshang didn't purposefully hurt ling buyi she already knows that ling buyi is "a great guy" what she is/was struggling with is declarations and expressions of his love for her. all her 15yr old life she's had NO EXPERIENCE IN LOVE not even family love let alone man and woman or husband and wife love. as for the "princesses", why you think disney making so much loot? cause he cleaned up the really real image of princesses and princes for us commoners to consume till we gag a/o broke.

The book said the 3rd princess di in fact slap her and the Ling budo surprisingly informed his majesty who was with him secretly watching them as the princess had said and done what she did they waited for shoashang to retaliate immediately after that which she didn't cause she was on her way to see the queen.
These treacherous women are going after the wrong person. Ling Buyi will defend/protect her with everything that's in him. The 3rd princess needs to focus on her husband instead of chasing after a man that doesn't want her. He made it perfectly clear during his proposal that Niao Niao was the only woman for him. These delusional women really need a wake-up call. The way he defends her against the 3rd princess's unwarranted attack is brilliant. He didn't leave any room for discussion. He was firm and to the point...he basically told her that she disgusts him....lol He wasn't pulling any punches...and I loved every minute of it. The Emperor really needs to do a DNA test on all his kids pronto.....lol

Its funny to me that everyone thinks CSS purposefully seduced/bewitched LBY. She literally was trying to survive her own little hellish family and escape w/ Luo Yao. But I realize the jealously and entitlement of all the princess when you notice their unrequited crushes and LBY is a catch but how dense are these girls.

The delusional princess was told that she wasn't the one for him...but she kept trying to make a love connection. This man went to war to avoid her clingy ass. She couldn't accept the fact that he didn't want anything to do with her...so Niao Niao ended up being the scapegoat after he rejected her. The third princess has a fantasy in her head that Ling Buyi liked her because he asked her father to send a physician when she was sick...she built the entire fantasy up in her head...that continued to grow despite the fact that she was already married. She needed to blame Niao Niao for her misfortune because she can't accept the fact that "He's Just Not Into Her". Unfortunately Wang's beef with Niao Niao is driven by her inability to think for herself. She already decided to dislike her...because of the delusional princess....mean girls tend to stick together. These women will never see themselves as the problem. They can't accept the fact that Ling Buyi chose a girl that has a low status...over them.
The kids are the emperor's but they are fostered out in the harem, the mothers have little connection to them in their upbringing. Sadly if they had they'd be better.

It's hilarious that every girl, especially tge princess and that lady in the pink, idk her name, felt entitled to ling buyi just because the elders made empty promises. And then claimed Shaoshang seduced him to marry her, like as if you've all haven't tried that before and failed 🤣 and they're so thick headed that they still won't accept it even when he proposed to her and she literally can't say no to the emperor.
The lady in pink was kind, yes, but i still don't like her, and she did nothing when Shaoshang was thrown in the river and kept quiet when her servant was accusing Shaoshang as having an affair with 3rd Prince.
That's Luo Jintong, reading partner of 5th princess and aide of the Xuan Empress. She looks all prim and proper but later will prove to be a nasty piece of s.. She always was extremely jealous of Shaoshan because the Empress had, at one time, considered getting LJT married to Zisheng.
But we know that the beautiful ladies that were sent his way were always shown the door,.
Until LBY was sufficiently intrigued by the graceful and innocent hand that had emerged from the carriage back when, and decided to have her under surveillance. Which proved providential at the time of the hunting lodge incident. Therefore, he would appear when CSS needed help.
It was less easy for him within the palace, where he could not have male spies about from his redoubtable Black guard. Thus, he needed to spend more time watching her himself, because only he had free access as 11th prince (fostered with the emperor by LBY's "mother" who was having episodes of mental illness and therefore could not take care of LBY who therefore was entrusted to the palace in Luoyang capital).
As a general and investigator, LBY could not always be near CSS who ought to have complained to due authorities (emperor, empress, LBY). Still the girl stubbornly clung to the idea that she could do whatever she set her mind too, also use her technical skills to contrive mechanisms that would at least help her take revenge if for some reason she was beat too.
In this clip we get to know LBY's age (21 years old) and the greed of the 3rd Princess, whose shameless advances are firmly rejected by the general.
the undercurrent (and at some point they actually say so) is that they don't really care about Ling Buyi, it's more about his status. At least, this princess doesn't. 5th Princess doesn't care about anyone, she's jd ust a b*tch overall, and jealous of how Shaoshang gets along with her mother. And those two other princesses, Wang and Yuchang, they actually used to bully Shaoshang long before she was associated to Ling Buyi. All around, people are just classist and inhumane
