(1) The small extra parts are container guides that go on the stubs on the car sides next to the ends of the side walkways. (2) To couple the cars without taking off the interfering part, loosen (don’t remove) the little screw on the bottom behind the trucks so the trucks bend down a bit to make room to couple the cars. (3) Consider keeping the screw holding the trucks themselves a bit loose so the trucks stay flat and the car tracks better.
I think you are supposed to undo a screw to loosen the truck then slot the other car on. On my set the screws are so tight as to be impossible to undo without damaging the cars. I will go with removing the detail part I think!!

Even though this is a product from another company, I bought a 5 car set of 40” well cars from Walthers Mainline. Not all fit together to be articulated. One of the knob things (not sure the real name) isn’t centered so the fit is too snug so I basically have a 4 car set. I just started building up my well cars and is this a common issue?
I believe those extra parts in bag might be to hold in the containers inside the bed? So king of shoes that can be placed at 40, and 48 feet? Nice review, shame they are plastic, just seem they would be too lite.
I found these Atlas well cars to be too light & sold the set I bought. Since the car bodies are plastic instead of cast metal, I feel like they’re overpriced as well.

I too was thinking that part could possibly be replaced after the cara are assembled, to act like a lock of some sort

I’d accidentally bin it around one of my curves and all of the details would fly off and I’d be very sad because it seems very expensive
At 1:18 I had the same problem, thanks for the video!
Good review. Good point of running these empty. Just way to light for longer trains.
those are extra prototypical clips to hold contaniers

Can the part you removed be put back on after the cars a coupled?
Yes, since it's a lock!
you can just move the bogey a bit and it will slide on.
