I’ve got 3 sets currently. 2 BNSF patch cars and a TTX set. Love the cars. They run amazing. The A/B cars are really snug with putting a container in them if you do have containers in them. Otherwise I love them so much

They are great cars. I like the red TTX logo cars the best

They were my favorite too, wish they made another road number or two of the red logo.

Anyone tried inter mountain 3 unit sets? I bought one set once, ran them for 10 minutes and promptly re packed them and sold them on eBay. They ran terrible, the wheels dig into the side of the cars and I’m running average 38-40 inch radius on the mainline minimum 26 in some industry’s. I’m a kato guy, their well cars don’t have the fine details but man some of the best running rolling stock I’ve ever had

I had the same experience with my intermountain well car's every time I pulled them out of the package something would fall off and they are too light. I have 6 set of Kato well car's 3 set's of the Walthers mainline 40ft rebuilds and a set of scale train well car's in the red TTX logo. Plus 2 40ft Husky stacks now that is a intermodal LoL

Where’d you get the containers that look like they have tarps on them

      ScaleTrains makes them too.

ScaleTrains have them as a new release along side these well cars and new schemes of standard 40’ containers. There are ZIM, COSCO, ans Hapag LLOYD varieties. I picked up one and it’s pretty nice for $11

Yes, like the others said, ScaleTrains made the tarp 40' containers

These are great cars. Not really caring for the lemon yellow base color though.

Yes the faded yellow is pretty bright, but it's a perfect base for weathering!

Really nice review! I’d love to pick one of these up but since I try to limit my purchases to equipment types that I have seen in person, not sure these will be for me. I did some research and couldn’t find really anything on these cars past 2010. I wonder if they’ve been retired?

According to ScaleTrains, backpacker cars are still in service. I would not be surprised if a few still exist somewhere in the system, albeit super rare.
I thought there were no more Maxi-III 48' well cars these days since I never see them in any railfanning videos, but got a model of them anyways since it's cheaper to get than a Maxi-I, which are way more common. Then just 2 weeks ago someone spotted a Southern Pacific Maxi-III set at work and posted it on Reddit. So my well cars turned out to be possible in present day still, that I'm happy about.

I'm not 100% sure, I did a little research and the latest photo I could find was from 2015 but nothing later than that.

100% deserve the high score? Scale Trains sent you these for free and you fawn over them. Mine derail all the time and have broken parts. But we're to believe that yours are flawless? I smell a rat.

I buy my review models same as you, no sponsorships, paid with my money. If you watched the video you would have seen my models did arrive with minor damage and I fixed them myself because they’re highly detailed models and shipping is hard on nice equipment. My well cars run great with or without containers and if you’re having significant issues i would check the wheels/trucks and track.
