Great video, I loved these things when I was a kid in the early 90's. What a trip down memory lane! 😂 The later series were great, glow in the dark ones and everything
Great collection, I just completed series 1 from sonrics a brand of candies in Mexico that they used to sell back in 1994 little boxes with candies, a figurine, trading cards/comic or a pin, I still have some cards and in the back they have some info about each mosnter, thanks for this video, anything from monster in my pocket brings back good memories of my childhood
These were one of my favorites as a kid. My son has them now, hanging on his wall in the display 'mountain'. I remember my favorites were always the ones that looked ready to "fight" - fists up, in a pose ready for action. Cyclops, Spring-heeled Jack, Windigo, etc. Fun stuff, thanks for the memories.
Wow, a Spring-heeled Jack figure?! Baba Yaga is wild too. Never thought I'd see them as kids toys. Very cool; wish these had been around when I was a kid.
These were great for kids who enjoyed collecting things. I got most of mine from single blind packs at 7-Eleven which came with a random monster + card. My favorite was the Kraken. The NES video game also came with an exclusive figure Blemmyae.
I had a complete series 1 and 2 run as well as a bunch of later ones. Great to see these again From series ome i think Great Beast, Behemoth and Spring heeled jack were my favourites
I forgot about these, until an LGR episode, where he had the trading cards. It triggered a rush of memories of these. We used to have a TV show KTV with kids shoes and they would have these adverts on Saturday mornings and I would beg my folks to buy me these toys and cards and clothes. The ads were really cool.
Completing the first series was the bane of my childhood! Like your friend here, I only brought the mystery packs amd for along time all I needed was the T-Rex. I must have at least tripled every other figure in the set before seeing the 24 pack with it in amd just caving. No regrets lol
As a kid I specifically remember getting a yellow Kraken, red Charon, purple Jotun, and I was so buzzed when on my walk to school I found a yellow Haniver. Now my favourite Series 1 MIMPs are Coatlicue and Haniver.
buen video no se mucho ingles, pero puedo comprender las colecciones y un poco la información, gracias. saludos coordiales desde perú. Luego yo haré un video también compartiendo como fue esa colección aquí en mi país.
lol yes i dont know what it is i just loved/love them...seems to be something about that era in general late 80s/ early 90s that was the best times except u didnt have the internet but apart from that seemed the best era...and boglins too do u know them...so awesome cant b coincidence they were made around the same time haha!!
I always had these fight my M.U.S.C.LE figures. Had the NES game as well !!! These, the M.U.S.C.L.E men and GPK I had a TON of. Used to trade with friends, but never had close to a complete set.
Always loved these things. I actually found some of what remained of my collection from years back just a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, at some point the box was mistakenly transferred from the basement to the attic and now many of the yellow and green figurines have marks of red on them. It also meant my two beloved Boglin hand puppets were turned to melted masses that engulfed many other toys! I haven't been toy shopping in years - do they have anything similar to these nowadays? I know the 'mystery' box type things are hugely popular, but not sure if there is anything of this sort. Whatever the case, I enjoyed the trip down memory lane!
In Germany they where packed in a non-transparent plastic bag and you can't see which monster is in it, you could feel a little, but there was a card in this bag too. On this playing cards where 4 characteristics: Intelligence, Strength, Speed and Weekness. Every characteristics goes from 0 to 10 points, except Weekness, this goes from -10 to 0 points. For example (I only remember the characteristics for T-Rex): 5 Intelligence, 10 Strength, 10 Speed and 0 Weekness. Makes in the sum 25 Points, the number on the back of each monster. During the writing of this comment, I found this video: ua-cam.com/video/Sej6R8cNpL4/v-deo.html
I think I was the only kid who had these back in the day lol I don't remember any of my friends having any and I only have one memory of seeing a mystery pack like the one here in a Thrifty. I miss toys like this
I suspect it could be for religious reasons. Before 1994 the South African government was quite hectic when it came to religion. I suspect it could be because of that?
It's funny because the "Great Beast" is actually the seven-headed dragon from the Revelations book on the Bible... So it's technically the Devil itself, and I never heard someone complaining about it.
The Hindu religion is still an active religion so of course there was issues when they depicted gods as 'monster's - in the UK they were outright banned as it was deemed disrespectful to likes of Ganesha deemed as such.
Tiamat is a Babylonian deity. A personification of the primordial sea from which the gods were first created. She's mostly depicted as a sea serpent / dragon. And this video made my day, I totally forgot about these little guys, I loved them, they came out here in Germany when I was about 9 or 10, I think, so I had some great fun playing with and collecting these tiny fiends :) My favorite monster I think was the series 1 Werewolf/Wolf Man. I just thought he looked so cool in that pose, howling up at the moon (at least I always imagned it was a moon, he was howling at, naturally)
Marduk killed Tiamat and made the earth out of her corpse. He also killed her husband and made mankind(not the wrestler) out of his blodd. Marduk and Tiamat are also Black/Deathmetal groups.
@@Pegwarmers I am from South Africa and showed some guys on the MIMP site on Facebook one that I had with a star but they said it was fake! So I am going with their word! I I don't know!! I didn't even know I had such a figure! I didn't even worry about them until a couple of days ago, after showing someone them!
Reliving my youth and these were the first obsession of mine, funnily enough Cyclops was the hardest to get hold of were I was and remembers kid having one so got my box of change and traded all what I had for it and thinking I was the baddest kid around 😁
I think they only had it in the UK, Europe, Australia and even Brazil I think but you should totally import some to review :) They were my childhood figures :D
I remember finding a Pink Lion Demon with a star on his back In the gutter by my friends house when I was In elementary school. I dont have the figure any more but I was never able to figure out what it was from. I was only able to find 3 of my figures, hopefully they are still around. I would love to figure out what the damned Pink Lion Demon was.
Never had any of these. I remember seeing them very briefly in kay bees once then gone. I liked the muscle guys better, I'm surprised to say I have exactly 2 left from the 80s, lol.
Unreal, I just bought the full set again , best memory I completed them with the blind boxes, and needed 1 more (Triton) my dad got tired of buying the boxes so he ripped them open until we found triton and we bought it after we found the box wit him in it.
I had the full collection of series one. I collected them mostly through the 4 packs and I remember getting a blind box and was blown away. I used to play with them so much! Here is the cartoon that was referenced too. It's pretty bad though. ua-cam.com/video/kUEsPEdQvMI/v-deo.html
These were a solid part of my childhood. This was a nice stroll down memory lane. Thank you!
Bringing back those memories are what we are all about.
I like Ky-Low Rent in the red shirt
ha ha!
Great video, I loved these things when I was a kid in the early 90's. What a trip down memory lane! 😂 The later series were great, glow in the dark ones and everything
Great video! Brought back a lot of memories.
Thanks!
I'm pretty sure that The Great Beast was based off the Great Beast from The Bible.
From the book of revelation apparently.
I enjoyed your nostalgic throw back review. One of my favorites was the Ectoplasm Phantom from Series 2.

Sorry to hear the sad fate of your toys. Nothing quite like MIMP for sale these days. Boglins recently made a comeback via Kickstarter.
Great chill vid thumbs up
Thanks!
awesome vid guys i base my channel around these little monster dudes love this

absolutely i subbed you up when i saw you share the same love as me for these little dudes ;)

I vaguely remember these. Thanks for showing them off!
No problem. Thanks for watching.
Loved this stuff

Kali was also banned or removed on later versions of the set in South Africa. I have a version of the leaflet that has Kali blanked out.
Nathan Horne why was Kali banned and removed??

We are separated by an ocean these days but we stay in touch. Most Summers he comes home for a visit, but Covid messed that up last year.
Awesome review, how many varients of the Ghost do you have? I'm on 7 colour variants so far and 3 different height variants too
I don't really try to get the Monsters in every color.
Me either it's just from lots over the years one I have is a good head smaller lime green and has no number on its back. Could be Italian or mexican
You guys used my photo of the Jotun troll 😂. I'm from South Africa and I submitted that pic to that website

That's awesome!
@ thnx
Thanks for the info guys.
Dear God why do I love this stuff?!
Monster in My Pocket is awesome!
I remember getting some of these in easter eggs
They make great egg fodder.
I joined the fan club, but I got only one of the two promised newsletters.
Yeah, I don't remember getting a second one either.
LOVED THIS
Thanks!
I've noticed on a few figures once at etc that have certain discolouring. Would you know why this is?
Alex Doran possibly sun damage or fading?
+SEO Toy Review yeah it could be, it's odd as just a few blobs here and there. Almost looks like inks rubbed off on them?
The guy on the left looks like Mad Hatter form Gotham
The guy on the left's father wrote Batman comics for decades.
I used to love these 😊
The cryptids bigfoot,yeti,Nessie,and kraken
Those are some good ones.
I'm sure I had a book with all the series 1 monsters in and their back story.
That's really cool! I did a video about some of the supporting merchandise, but ai don't think I ever saw that.
There was a 2006 remake series over here in the UK :)
Yeah, I remember contacting the manufacturer to try to see if we could get the new line here in the USA.
I think they only had it in the UK, Europe, Australia and even Brazil I think but you should totally import some to review :) They were my childhood figures :D
Hoping mine are still in my parents loft….fingers crossed …gonna take some digging haven’t seen them in 25+ years hope my dad didn’t bin them
Me too! That would be sad if they aren't up there.
I miss these
They were such a fun line. I kind of can't belive they didn't make a comeback a few years ago when blindbag toys were everywhere.
red cap was my favourite - good to see Scotland represented
He always seemed like one of the most grousome of the MIMP from Series 1

Was it the Beast from series 1? There is a lion monster in series 2 but the name is slipping my mind right now.
Iv still got my full set up on my wall in the volcano👍👍
Really? The volcano is cool, but fragile.
@@Pegwarmers yeah it is a little but iv got it up pretty high so it never gets touched
the pronunciations of Baba Yaga and Quetzalcoatl make my head hurt.

For latinamericans is easy.
Para los latinoamericanos, en general hispanohablantes es fácil.
When these came out in South Africa The Joton Troll had a star And we could send in and we would get the mountain
I guess because they had modified the mold to make the American contest? That's really cool to hear.
Never had any of these. I remember seeing them very briefly in kay bees once then gone. I liked the muscle guys better, I'm surprised to say I have exactly 2 left from the 80s, lol.
MUSCLE were cool, but out of retail by the time Monsters were in stores.
Medusa and Vampiress showed more skin in the prototypes.
Yeah, the card art shows that!
can you do a review of series 3?
+The Contractor check out MIMP playlist. There is a video combining series 3 with some of the later series.
Sold my complete series 1 an mountain with the nes fig for 50 bucks, so mad now

Tiamat is from Babylonian mythology. The Great Beast is in the Bible (Revelation). See William Blake's Behemoth.

Didn't the creator of this try to sue Pokemon for copyright infringement?
I don't think so because MIMP uses monsters from Myth and Pokemon made up monsters.
