BIOMUTANT PS5 Review - Still Mediocre?

- Released in a questionable state originally, this version of Biomutant seems pretty serious about making up for that as much as it can. Aside from redesigning it’s core mechanics and general gameplay, this is about the most that could have been done to resuscitate Biomutant’s credibility and long-term reputation. It’s a reasonably good game that will give die-hard looters and customizers plenty to do if the game clicks with them, but overall, it’s still one of those games that insists upon its timelessness on the surface despite never really earning it.
As it was, it was an okay-to-good game with bad performance, which is a bad combination, as the few things that do stand out will be hampered making the totality of the game betray its few triumphs. But now it’s an okay-to-good game that can actually realize what it’s trying to be and stand on its own two legs-for better and for worse-which is a much better look for Biomutant, as it does undeniably have some bright spots that are worth showing off.
Don't care what anyone says. This game is amazing.
Biomutant is a super fun and addicting game, ill never understand the hate
@@RandoLePerson that sounds like 99% of games these days
I just started playing this game and I'm Love the combat is so cool and world is nice the characters are unique like every open world game has you play as a human or something similar. It's a nice change of pace. The only problem I have is I wish enemies respawned faster and random encounters happened more. I love the combat and I wish more enemies ambushed you as you explore or travel
Extremely underrated. Being an avid open world gamer, and a fan of the original fable, fallout, Skyrim I’d say this game is right on par with those titles. Lots of side quests to get lost in, leveling up is a challenge. Which is a good thing. The world is mostly accessible it’s a very big map. Much bigger that gta v. The kung fu dynamic is a plus imo. Also idk I might be wrong but I’d imagine a lot of people play on medium or easy 🤷🏾♂️ turn it up a notch give yourself a challenge. The dark powers are good. There are glitches a bugs in every game nowadays. 10/10 and it’s free on ps+ rn 👍🏾
LMFAO!!
@@anthonygamer I mean you clearly don’t play rpg’s
I started playing this almost a year ago and put it down maybe an hour after. It updated on my consoles today and I noticed that it received the X/S treatment so I figured I'd give it another whirl with the higher resolution and frame rates. I can run it at quality unlocked which ran both on my 4K TV at atleast 60fps. But I really gave it a go today and put atleast 5 hours into it. I really enjoy the games mechanics, especially how you can customize your characters gear and fashion your own weapons. The combat is enjoyable and the world is neat although definitely has its dull moments. I mostly progressed through the early main quest while detouring into some side quests which were all very brief but my main enjoyment came from scavenging for parts and components, making new and more powerful weapons and then slaying every enemy I came across. I definitely will be playing more of this game especially now with how it's performance is. Damn I just realized how long this is. Anyways, it's definitely worth a try if you've got a PS5 and PS+. Not sure what it goes for on Xbox anymore.
Underrated game
My most favorite game can't they improve it and bring it out no man's sky level
I mean yeah of course it's still mediocre. Nothing changed when it was ported besides smoother mediocre game play lol
I loved this game lol not polished but fun and a whole ass vibe
This game was good
I enjoyed it on ps4 despite having some technical issues.
TBH other people's opinions of the game ruined it for me. not only the reviews, but I streamed it a lite on twitch and my friends kept comparing to other games. really made me not want to keep playing it. maybe I'll revisit
It looks like when you're in combat your attacks don't really do anything to stagger the enemy
That’s what the special attacks you unlock with the upgrade points are for, as I’ve staggered lots of enemies with both unlockable special attacks for each weapon type.
The games great but only stopped playing it because it was so laggy
I’ll give the PS+ trial for the game a go
have never played will be playing the updated one
Yeah, this game lived and died by it's combat and I'm sorry to say it's a rotting corpse.
Biomutant and Elden Ring are 2 open world games I wish I never completed .
Buomutant is no masterpiece, but it sure is fun. I'm getting 60fps+ pretty much all the time with VRR in quality (unlocked) mode. It's a beautiful game.
In a time, when only 2 or 3 AAA-Games see the light of Life in a Year (and hopefully are good😉), it's the the chance for little Studios to shine with their work and bring us fun for small bucks.
I know before i buy one of their Games about their Qualititys or Weakness and can enjoy the Time with it nevertheless.
I like Biomutant for what it is and See the efforts behind it and gladly supported the Studio with the purchase👍
I really loved this game. Sure it has some issues, but, i think the open world is quite fascinating. Sometimes, i went to some point just to see how it was, juste to explore. Then, you get a flying balloon, a kind of boat... it's cool. You can find so many parts type of weapon, make so much combinations which turns you in god mode... No, this game, if not perfect, is really underated.
I always thought this was a great game, but everywhere I go on the internet people disagree 😂 so many people say the world was empty and I’m convinced they just didn’t bother to progress the story, most of the activities aren’t available from the start so yes it will seem barren if you just wandered off etc…
Sadly enough people are always complaining about empty worlds but I f.ex. don't like it either when they're cluttered with stuff and you cannot move around for 10 seconds without being attacked or being interrupted while exploring the world. Mad Max is a great example, I loved the game but many complained about the empty vast world. But it fitted the post apocalyptic scenery very well.
Maybe you just have low standards
That's most games. They bandwagon hate until.
@@BDG96 I mean I’m guilty of being negative about games I found disappointing I admit 🙃 but I just really didn’t understand what was going on with this one - on release it received average reviews at best and I didn’t get why…it’s certainly no worse than all the other open world games, plus it has some amazing ideas in there (the build your own weapons system is still the best of its kind I think ☺️) I’m convinced many people just judged it after an hour of wandering round the ‘empty’ open world…that’s the most common complaint I hear and it just isn’t true, it has plenty of stuff to do unless you just wandered off without progressing the story a bit first🙃 I know this will probably be an unpopular opinion but there is much more to do than something like Cyberpunk, which I did feel (despite looking very nice) had a very lifeless map…
Hating games are cool nowadays.
I personally can sit down and relax while enjoying playing this game
I thoroughly enjoyed this game. Every open-world Ubisoft game suffers from many of the same problems, but usually receive 8s and 9s without hesitation. At least this game has some modicum of uniqueness and charm to it.
don’t get the hate for it I personally enjoyed it and found it a breath of fresh air.
Free game for December PS Plus members. Will be giving it a go hopefully I like it
Biomutant suffers from its early reviews. I completed it last year on PC and I'm playing it again on PS5. The best way to describe it is "mindless fun". It's a perfect game for those who get home tired from work and just want to have fun and don't want to be thinking too much. Combat is fast and dynamic, the world is big enough and you can explore every inch of it, there's no invisible walls and you can do whatever you want most of the times. I love it, I think people should give it a shot. It's a solid 8/10 for me. Just go to settings first and reduce the narrator frequency to minimum.
I must be the only person who liked having narrator always talking. I felt like I had a friend the whole time
I bought it because of the positive comments lets hope im not disappointed
I left the narrator as-is since I like to think it’s the automaton talking to my character based off whenever you find the noticeboards and tracks.
@@billsny9243 nah you ain't alone . I'm always disappointed when he doesn't randomly comment on shit lol
This comment just made me buy this game.
I didn't even know about this game until about a few months ago and immediately the cover caught my eye at gamestop. It was a game I always kept wanting to grab when I saw it in person but waited out. I looked at reviews and saw how poorly it launched and got delayed multiple times and made me feel conflicted as the gameplay looked decent enough....well finally picked it up and I'm so glad I did! It does have it's flaws in some parts but I can't help but forgive it for it's huge charm and uniqueness. It's the type of game I'm glad to support and will hopefully help to bring a sequel or be expanded on. I recommend it for sures!
It's a good game
I loved this game , was just a enjoyable fun game
I played like 5 hours today and i still am not satisfied. I have a feeling this game would be like titanfall. A game criticized today but will be a cult following in the future.
The game is nice. Critics were a bit too harsh with it. Makes for a great 7/10 game to grab when on sale.
@@RandoLePerson Not the sharpest tool in the shed are you?
Mediocre combat?? Uhm as someone that only played it for a few hours I can tell you the combat was the best part of it. So wtf are you on lol
"iTs NoT dArK sOuLs tHo"
While it may be one of the best parts of the game, it’s still mediocre, hence the score. I wanted desperately to love this game but it’s a 6/7 at best.
@@yupperdude1 for a studio’s first game the combat is anything but mediocre… it isn’t anything spectacular, but it’s still good.
@@alextownley9388 I think it was overall a little to ambitious for them. The combat is pretty janky and there isn’t much weight behind it making it feel to floaty to me.
Well, ghost Recon wildlands was mediocre and still i loved the game.
wildlands was the loved one, breakpoint was meh
@@nickdibiase3152 You tried Breakpoint lately? It's a lot more like Wildlands now, so many updates later lol. I still don't like the fact it's semi future and you have to deal with robot enemies tho.
@@RandoLePerson You haven't played it lately so why you talking?
Downloaded it on PS+, and just beat it. It’s not perfect, and I agree with most of the criticisms… however, I found it difficult to put down. I loved it.
One complaint i never listen to is when someone says combat is bad or clunky. Unless it's fundamentally broken it's just a matter of opinion. So to me this sounds more like a 7/10.
Give these guys a TMNT license for an open world game.
6? Wow you guys are still horrible at your jobs. You described a 7.5 at least
@@RandoLePerson ok
I'm enjoying it! This update is a game changer! Def worth playing now!
Game is still boring and bland, no game changer in sight 🥱
@@Dj-sf7or WRONG
Lol.. kids..
@Dj So sayeth the Calladooty yearly release purchaser. 🥱
Its still a pretty decent 7/10 which is fine, thats still a good game! Ive had great times with 4/10 games
I like the idea of this game it has a very unique concept I hope they make a sequel eventually.
Downloaded the game since it was free on ps plus and so far I'm really enjoying it. I see a lot of problems in the game but it's actually pretty fun. This game has a lot of potential, if they make a second game and fix some of its problems and improve some of the mechanics I'd def pay if they make a next one.
Swear I just read this comment on a different video. 🙄
It's a shame the developers gave up on this game. They are no longer updates the game. This game has so much potential but got abandoned too early.
I really just check out a review for fun because I will always buy a game that I really want to play and so I bought this and Gotham Knights today and can't wait to play through them both, 😁🎮✌️
Only a few hours into the game and I'm really enjoying it. I can see how it might not be for everyone though. I'd say give it a try.
It's like the perfect "starter" open world game. like if you don't really play open world's and you want to know what they're like, this has all the basic stuff implemented pretty well.
I ran into a lot of "what could have been". Like cyberpunk if they didn't make years of promises.
Lid line a bargain bin game. I'll pick it up now that gamestop has it for 12 bucks lol
I really want this game on my series x
I only played for about an hour. I liked the world at least.
Think you'll ever go back and beat it?
I'd like to soon but I'm behind on so many great games right now. Eventually I will though. I'm playing Plague Tale Innocence right now before the sequel comes out.
I think we also should take into account the size of the team that made the game as well as its budget. I agree mostly with what you've said here but I think when you take into consideration the small to mid size team and the budget that it makes the game a little more impressive. I would love to see this team make a sequel with a bigger team and better budget. I think it could really iron out the wrinkles and truly bring their vision to fruition. Personally I bought the game on day one because although it had and has issues of various types I do believe this team did their best with what they had and deserve support from anyone who is willing. I'd really hate to see this new franchise dissappear when it's got so many possibilities and tons of potential. I truly believe that if they get another stab at it that they'll knock it out of the park. Also I don't let one employees remarks taint a whole team and game from present and future support unless the rest of them back it as well. Sometimes people say dumb things especially when their project isn't doing as well as they hoped and the pressure is amped up. I feel the same way about Days Gone. Personally I believe that game deserves way more support than its gotten and its really a shame that Sony decided not to continue the franchise. I mean it was fairly successful and while it had some issues it still was an amazing game with a pretty decent story imo.
Hard disagree. The size of the team or the budget that they had should not affect a review of a game. There are excellent games that have been made by one person with no budget and there are terrible games that have been made by large teams with millions of dollars - and everything in between. A bad game is not magically made more (or less) fun because of the size of the studio. That's silly.
Now, if you think it's cool or interesting that a game was made by a small team with a small budget, that's fine. In fact, most would probably agree with you. But that's a sesperate point. That doesn't make a bad game better or a good game worse.
@@Johnnygrafx I agree with you about it not affecting the overall review but for me personally I'm just willing to be a little, and I do mean little, bit more lax on some things in a game that I personally have fun playing if it's done by a smaller team with a smaller budget. That doesn't mean that I don't still recognize when something is bad or buggy etc and of course those things should be pointed out and judged accordingly but at the same time I think it should also be brought up that the game was made by a smaller team with a smaller budget because for me personally that information is going to at least slightly alter what I'd be willing to forgive in my own purchase and playthrough as well as possibly, even if only slightly, altering someone who hasn't played it yets willingness to still try it out when they might have otherwise assumed is was a big AAA title from a larger studio and budget and so decidedto give it a pass. Either way you are correct about the size of the studio and budget not making a difference about fun factor and issues present in the contextof a review. I just think it should also be mentioned that its from a smaller team and budget so that expectations can be measured accordingly. Thats just what I believe personally about what affects my willingness to purchase a game. Its obviously not the only thing I take into account when flirting with a game purchase but it does have an affect on what I'm willing to tolerate out of a game when it comes to certain things. Like, if BioMutant were made by one of the big VG companies with a few of their top tier teams then I (personally) would be more harsh on its issues than if it's made by a medium to small team from a not as big company and budget but for the purposes of an official review, yes it shouldn't take away from its issues being noted so that other gamers can make an informed decision but as I said I think it should also at least be mentioned that its not by a AAA team and then a individual gamer can do what they will with that information, whether it affects their decision to purchase or not.
good is good, and bad is bad. Heard of solo devs who make amazing games? Plus they should have worked on the type and scope of game as their budget allowed.
Stardew Valley.
Hollow knight.
Undertale.
I can name more, these are actually good games that were made by less than 10 people.
Loved the game but couldn't wait for it to end too much of a grind and all the rare gear l got didn't really move the needle much for my character. It's a gorgeous game that l played on my ps5 and l don't see a single reason for playing it again.
Fun game not gonna lie
I gave this game a 2nd try on ps5 and I freaking love this game!! Why didn't I like it when it first came out? There is so much character. Maybe it's the drought of good games, but this us hitting the single player game spot
This would be a great game if it’s the only game you have
At this point gaming bolt is just making videos so they can say they release videos every day.
I was told to give the game a chance by the same people who say the game gives you buyer’s remorse
I honestly think this would have been WAY better as an MMO. Keep what the game has already like creating your own mutant character, leveling up, crafting your own armour and weapons, fighting monsters and big bosses in the world but with other players ect, getting mounts and all that stuff. Just make the open world larger, add in more quests, missions and add activities of sorts and other MMO style stuff and I think this game would of been a bigger hit. The open world looks nice, I think being able to play in it as an MMO would of worked better and also would of been cool seeing other players mutants.
I enjoyed this game. I kept describing it to people as adorable fallout
You play fur the mounts. Not the story. O had fun the entire 60 hrs I played. I bet biomutant 2 will be a huge leap
@@RandoLePerson it was a clever pun actually. Unlike your narrow mindedness
Glad I waited for the PS5 version
Biomutant Is amazing!!!!
Of course it is still mediocre. Going up in platforms doesn't change anything fundamental about the game. "Ooh check out how much better this big boring expanse of a world looks."
Lol
We can tell you never played it, and you can save the time it takes to respond that you have, we know you havent
@@monoxzide1073 I have. Idk why you thi k I haven't? I played through most of the game and yes I unlocked the meager cookie cutter side activities they provide as you conquer the groups and chat with whatever his name is. You are a pompous ass to assume anyone who has a different opinion than you is lying.
I dropped the game pretty quickly as I noticed that the game really likes to repeat itself but not in a good way tho and the lack of voice actors made the characters feel plank and little meh.
@@breadman441 the game was just terrible in more ways than it was good. I put more tine into than I should have thinking "nah it'll get better, it will do something fresh." I mean it had some stuff that could have been really promising but they executed it so poorly.
This is one of those games sort of like the last of us 2, where anytime anybody has legitimate criticisms about the game being bad, you get people like Mono here who just assume that the person couldn't possibly have played the game and has no odea what they are talking about because it is impossible for them to fathom that someone else could think the game is shit.
@@ggmann13 of course you have the right to your own opinion but let’s be completely honest, you have never played the game. You making things up to further strenghten you own opinion is very obvious in this case.
I’m pleased to see people in these comments aren’t being so negative about this game. I bought it on launch way back when but all the bad reviews made me afraid to play it. I’m having the same issue with the new Saint’s Row but Gamingbolt wasn’t overly negative about that too. I appreciate this, it does feel like people are too harsh sometimes.
I look at it like - even the best games of all time get negative comments. Rdr2, breath of the wild etc. So anything less than that is seen as complete trash. In that world then we really limit any ability to do something different - ghost of Tsushima , this game etc. We don’t need every game to be as deep as rdr2. The gameplay just needs to be fun.
The new saints row is such a far cry from its glory days brush. If you want good saints row play 1 and 2. The others are all forgettable and the newest one is trash. Ps yes I have attempted to Plat it with its cringe dialog and generic over the shoulder shooting that felt like trash compared to 1 and 2.
So this review is giving me the impression that it's still better than Cyberpunk 2077, from story to missions, being redundant and 2-dimensional, etc. The price tag is vastly lower though, so perhaps this game is worth it after all?
The game isn’t good. Just looks good
I hate that certain vehicles are only for certain areas. Why can't i use the jetski type vehicle in a river ? Why cant i call the mech besides in the no mans land type area? The mech one i kinda get but i just feel artificially limited especially when once you explore for the first time there's not much thats dynamic or has you wanting to revisit a location. So why not make the 1st time exploring more entertaining by letting us go a bit crazy and summon a mech or speed down a normal river? Maybe introduce limitations or resources to fuel them or call them and that could help balance it without limiting some of the coolest things in the game to such a small portion of the game world.
I liked the 2 mins I played
If this came out on Xbox’s gamepass I’d play it, otherwise I’ll never see the credits.
the game was okay for me but wasn't for me, it will be loved and enjoyed by others but for me its a no go.
My main complaint with the game is the blatant fear mongering about nuclear power.
It's alright.
Whelp. The game literally did not change, so what’s with the title
This is a much better game than it gets credit for. Just like days gone
The game it’s not perfect but it has it own piece of ground in terms of charcater customization and crafting system…making it really different from other rpgs
I don't understand the emphasis that everyone puts on "choices matter".
Honestly . . . I don't care.

I actually like this game and have gotten back into it recently after finishing up Infernax’s Future ending as well as the Ultimate Good and Evil endings, and so far I’m having quite a bit of fun.
