    You are crushing it, Chris! I truly enjoy and benefit from your videos. They get better and better, too! Even the video image, your framing, and audio are looking so good in this video. And your photographs are cracking good. Most important? You just truly seem to be enjoying yourself!

    My first camera purchased since I took up photography in retirement was an Olympus EM10-III which was great to learn with. I then purchased and EM1-III for its Live ND and upgraded that to an OM1-I. So, I have never had the FF mantra or watched their UA-cam information and have not, therefore been poisoned by the small minded marketing blurb of those big name manufacturers. The pixel peepers need to watch your videos Chris to see the quality photographs that OM Systems M4/3 can capture. For most people, the sensor size, lens quality and DOF from M4/3 produces excellent photographs. On top of that are the computational photography features which the big names are trying to catch up with, but have not got there to the same level, yet. Yes, if you want huge files to sell to mainline advertisers then you may well benefit from a FF Sony a1 with its £6.6K body plus lens ware but you would need to be a high level professional photographer to see a return on that.
    I love my OM1 and am committed to this camera and could not see a logical reason to change. I would be very interested to see some of your waterfall photography using Live Time Chris.

    I've got to say that the overall quality of this video is so much better! Beforehand, UA-cam compression was not your friend and videos often had blockiness or artifacts in the backgrounds. This video is sharper, crisper and overall just nicer to watch. The content you make has always been good, just now it looks even better 😊

    Chris, I think we've drunk the same Coolaide! I've been shooting with two cameras for years, and it was no different once I made the move from Canon to Olympus. It was pretty much for the reasons you described.
    I initially traded in one of my wonderful EM-1 MKIIs to the MKIII, specifically for the LIVE ND. Then I traded in the other MKII, plus a couple of lenses to get the OM-1 for the improved Live ND and subject detection. I don't regret either choice, they just make life so much easier.
    One of these days I'll get the OM-1 MKII for the Live Grad ND, but I'm going to have to wait awhile for that!
    Great vlog as always too.
    Cheers,
    Bevan

    Once again, a great video and on point. I love minimalist long exposure stuff, especially seascapes, so I think you will enjoy this feature a lot. The OM1.2 added just one more stop (so now up to 7 stops) but I think this is mainly down to the buffer size. Something to be aware of is that 60 seconds is your max exposure length with the built in ND filters, after that you need to revert to using physical ND filters again because the live ND is not supported in bulb mode (required for < 60 seconds). The same goes for the Live GND on the OM1.2. Also, there are some 'maximum shutter speeds' too (i.e. how fast you can go - rather than how long you can go) which appears to be limited by the sensor read out speed. Just something to be aware of too.

    • @ChrisBaitsonPhoto
      @ChrisBaitsonPhoto  Місяць тому

      Thanks for pointing that out actually. I was wondering just how long it could go for but 60 seconds does make sense as the E-M1 Mark ii caps out at 60 seconds before turning to bulb and live time etc. one thing I do love is that B is it’s own mode on the dial! That’s been a big annoyance of mine having moved from Canon, it’s nice to see it separate from M again. I think 6 stops in “most” situations is more than enough, and I guess adding a physical ND is an option to drop the light down if needed. I just really like the versatility of the mode. Fingers crossed for a firmware update….

    • @DaveEP
      @DaveEP Місяць тому

      @@ChrisBaitsonPhoto You can indeed add a physical filter, just as long as your total exposure doesn't go beyond 60 seconds. If it does you are back to physical filters only in bulb mode.

      E-M1 Mark III is honestly the best value professional grade camera on the market. Most people say it's the E-M1 Mark II, but that thing doesnt have Hand Held High Res or USB-C charging, two MAJOR cons for a system that's supposed to be compact; Hand Held High Res lets me leave the tripod at home to get extra megapixels and internal USB-C charging means I can take any TINY USB wall charger with me on the go and share use it to charge my phone and laptop as well; that alone is REALLY worth the extra cost of the Mark III over the Mark II.

    Thanks for sharing your experience about the OM1. Personally I stuck to my EM1 II for years. Goint out for a photo walk in winter last year in the snow the EM1 showed a greenish tinge on the display at start up. Uh oh, what was that about? So I decided to purchase the newly released OM1 II. Enjoy using it although the EM1 II is better in handling some features. What anoys me about the OM1 are the very small AF Points which sometimes are hard to find. I would prefer a larger display of these ppoints or a software based grouping into larger points. But otherwise I enjoy using M43 cams.

    I am racking my brain here. I don’t shoot video and I feel I just bought the z6iii wasting my money and should have kept my and maybe have kept my OM-1.
    I now have the NIKKOR 180-600, 24-120, and the 105. I just felt I was missing something with my Micro4/3. All of my pictures seemed soft when comparing to FF pictures. I guess I pixel peeped too much (which I guess was a habit I picked up from watching too many UA-cam videos. But really, shouldn’t the m4/3’s pictures be just as sharp and crisp as FF?
    I do shoot wildlife, I shoot landscape, and I do shoot macro.
    so in your honest opinion, what would you do? should I trade my z6iii back to the OM-1? (I had the 12-40, 40-150, and a sigma 56)
    Or just keep the Z6iii and get used to it?
    Help me make up my mind, maybe I need to stop researching and watching videos on camera systems.

    • @letni9506
      @letni9506 Місяць тому +2

      You'll get fantastic images of wildlife with that lens but for general photography I don't really see a difference m43 or full frame. It's mainly lens dependant and I don't but the premium lenses.
      For macro and landscape especially I think the om1 is as good as anything.

    You should try Highres mode with physical ND filter (e.g. ND1000). Highres mode takes 8 shots to combine them in one big picture (on tripod). ND1000 filter could give you shooting time up to 60 seconds. So you can take photo with time up to 8 minutes.

  • @JezdziecBezNicka
    @JezdziecBezNicka Місяць тому

    The crucial thing about OM-1's features (ProCapture, LiveND, Graduated LiveND (in mark ii), HiRes) is that they produce RAW files. Turns out it's not something you can take for granted in other systems. Nikon, for example, copied ProCapture - but forgot that limiting it to jpegs makes it useless ;)
    The OM-1 is good an all, but I've used it only for half a year or so and it landed in the drawer as a backup camera. OM-1ii's upgrades are incremental, but I feel they were worth it :)

    I have the OM-5 which has the ND filters built in. I haven’t used them yet as on my part of the NE coast while there is foreground interest there is very little else unless you count sewerage outlet pipes as interesting. I have in the past used Pentax predominantly and the OM-5 is a new experience for me which I am enjoying but Pentax have now released live ND filters through a software upgrade on the K3iii ( and possibly other bodies I’m not sure) but they have to be paid for, I think it’s around £80 to unlock them so it’s a big NO from me. Finally can I ask what the filter system is you use.
