- Extensor hallucis longus is one of those tissues that often go under the radar. It sits in between the peroneus tertius and the extensor digitorum longus and has a great little trigger point that can refer into the big toe, the ankle, and the peroneal arch.
This is a great tissue to be aware of when you're dealing with ankle sprains especially. Working it is a matter of using the first and second knuckle of your fist to work the short tissue between the peroneus tertius and the extensor digitorum longus. Make sure you get feedback from your client to keep the pressure in the sweet spot between effective treatment and comfort.

Thank you very much! Finally I know what is my problem. Will show it my physiotherapist.
I hope they are a hands on practitioner !!!
The area you're working really hurts after going for a run(can feel a dull ache, days after the run, and if I push the area its sore and feels bruised). Is this caused from being heavy footed or over pronation during a run?? Any exercises to strengthen the area up? Thanks and great video.
Thank you! Very helpful for my ankle 🙏
Thank you @seanlord7177 ! Where are you situated Sean?
That could explain why i got the pain around this area after I play badminton consecutively 5 days, seems I move laterally a lot. thanks for the info
absolutely mate, that is alot of load and i would be mindful that your tib anterior would be possibly overloaded
@@stuarthindsacademy thank you so much for the guidance, definitely will look into it
Great info. I have a question.. do you have any vids or recommendations for not being able move foot upward. I kinda tweaked my ankle the other morning and now it’s numb on my left front muscle if leg. When I’m sitting upright in a chair I cannot lift my foot up. As if I have no brain control over it. Any info is appreciated. It’s been 2 days now. No pain other than uncomfortable numbness and scared I won’t be able to move my foot up.
So you canning bring toes toward your head! Hard to say depending on how you tweaked your ankle, lateral / flexion sprain
Mine cramps a lot, all time time, I think it could be my sciatic nerve….what kinda doctor would care for this???
Cramps usually indicates increased muscle tension , have you been hiking or running on uneven surfaces lately?
Could this be mistaken for a foot stress reaction?
yes , but stress reaction incorporate night pain , bone stress test to confirm, it will be aggravated by treatment awell, that our your red flags
Could you tell me how can I treat the ankle itself and lower, front leg because when I walk I can’t even move my leg?…
How long has this been happening and is it pain or stiffness stopping you from moving it !!!
Where are you located doc I got that problem when i try tu run 🏃 I need a solución plz …
Im in Geelong , Australia , where are you located maybe we can find a good therapist to help you out !!
I ruptured my EHL tendon to my right big toe. The tendon is connected but does not extend up past neutral. I’ve been doing PT for months but it doesn’t move up. I can resist my toe from dropping down but can’t get it up past neutral. My suspicion is muscle atrophy. Do you have any recommendations?
ouch, how did you do this? nasty injury , how long ago did you rupture it ? was it diagnosed from imaging ?
@@stuarthindsacademy thanks for your reply! I dropped a glass and it cut the tendon. Yes, it was diagnosed with an MRI and I did surgery the same week as the injury.
@@Cedi217 omg lets hope you heal without complications, sending healing the gods your way !!!
I got the same problem in that part of my leg feel like muscle feel hard I can’t run …I need solución ….
Its probably an overload situation and im sure your tibialis Anterior is also involved , find yourself a good therapist to help you out.
If I injured this muscle, would it cause foot numbness?
Sometimes there can be sensory nerve entrapments around these muscles, depends where you feel the numbness?
I’m always sore there 😰
Sorry to hear Satan, maybe get some treatment
