4440 one of the best tractors John Deere ever made, my neighbor has two that I used quite a bit when I was in high school and I have one now myself, do alot of round balin
Here in the UK it doesn't ever really get cold enough to need starting fluid but are you operating the throttle when it starts to rev up then go to idle? I've seen it on alot of us tractors and didn't know of it was built in. Cheers
Haha, nice.👍🏻 lots of the 70s and 80s tractors had starting fluid systems. We used it at the shop many times. Had an old guy tell me once, modern starting fluid isn’t like the older stuff that caused issues. But then again some guys spray the whole can in!
Nothing wrong with either used appropriately. As you said John Deere has a bottle holder and button in the cab to inject it, even my JD skidder has that, it’s called the cold weather package and came with tandem batteries as well. It’s also WAY better for your tractors starting system not to have to crank it so long, this destroys starters, batteries, and cables..
Starting Fluid only hurts the motor if u put 2 much in. other then that it does not hurt them. i use Starting Fluid on my 1586..
I'm only 16 and I wish I could own one of these tractors I love the 4440
Rickrocks777 my dream tractor plus if it’s yours we’ll be great friends
Me too brother!!
Chase your dreams, work hard, if you really want it you will own one someday. Old Deeres are good investments.

ours is a 1986 i believe and it has over 7000 hours and it runs like it’s brand new
IH did the same thing with ether, they even put a clearly labeled button for it on the dash of the 86 series
I have 4440 but on John deer it help them crank up better if u turn the starring wheel it the pressure off the pump
You are the second person that I have ever heard say that. And believe it not I’ve done it and it seems to work.
Ether is hard on shit. It just is. No other way about it. WD40 is actually a good alternative to ether. Personally I’ve never tried it
Hey I don’t know much abt those Deere’s, but isn’t there supposed to be an air cleaner on top of tht intake?
Precleaners are pretty common. It's there but the top is missing. I need it replace it
It starts like I do on these cold winter days! Lol
10-4 on that same here
I need a lot of ether before I start. 🥴heheheheheheheheheh
Nice tractor but try not to put easy start in as they can get ‘ addicted’ to it
I can actually smell this video 😂. Love me some 4440 action
Just found your channel. We live in the Northeast corner of PA. New sub from me!
I love how them old Deere start up like that I wish my 6410 did that lol
Exactly, if you use too much it can burn the oil off the cylinder walls, and of course, that’s not good

The tractor does the rev up then down to idle by itself that's how deere built them
Injection pump is governed by oil pressure. So with no oil pressure they’re full throttle till it builds up, creating the distinct cold start.
matrix6241 oh right didn’t know that, thanks
Everyone loves a cold start #WorldsOkayestFarmer
Wd40 works for starting fluid
Ferguson also has factorybuilt ether-coldstart...I use it too on my harvester when it's really cold...
I shipped tractors for John Deere we used starting fluid all time. We had start tractors sitting out side in -0. We also have booster batteries.

As long as you use it conservatively you should be fine. Just don’t use it on glow plug or grid heaters
My 970 starts up no either -10 F
No electricity
Miss seeing you guys !!
It's your tractor do what you won't! Who cares what other people think...........!
