I coach swimming and I've said that a million times "if you're trying to change something and it doesn't feel strange then you've changed nothing" I'm also golf crazy and your advice and coaching is spot on. Thanks for all the help. Keep on keeping on!
I recently learned this before this video and have told my friends over and over that it’s in the hips. They look at me crazy but then they see my drive down the middle with little effort. I will provide this video to them as proof that I am not crazy!:) Thanks
Since l started following this advice ( 3 weeks ago) what a huge difference its made. Straighter longer ball flight with all clubs. Except my putter haha. Thanks Steve. I also use Eureka as best l understand it. I'm too old to be bothered taking lessons.
Hello Steve. Great video. Thanks so much. My husband and I are going to try and get this right. I’m a high handicapper, 60 years old, a social golfer here in South Africa. Love the game. Any bit of help is brilliant. Best regards to you. I’m a new subbie. Yay!
Don't think I've ever had this feel before in over 50 years of playing golf. Knew my heavy rucsac would come in handy even though I don't take it out in the hills anymore...
Your lady must think you are a smoothie on the dance floor ! Seriously great lesson, great exercise for that lower back area! Happy New Year Steve ! From cccold cccanada !
Pelvic turn is different to hip turn. I've noticed that pelvic angle at address is key to correct pelvic movement during the swing. But it's not pelvic speed that creates clubhead speed it's internal rotation of the left hip joint that when released creates lag and speed. Nobody I have seen has ever described the difference adequately. I bet you could though Steve?
So, I like these videos Steve but I'm having a question about combining this hip movement with the other video you have out there recommending maybe 60% of the weight forward at setup. Can I combine those 2 principles? (maybe I'm just uncoordinated LOL)?
Best way to get it moving is to turn your hips forward first and then push them back - gives you momentum going back. You would NEVER EVER just turn your hips back if you wanted to throw the heavy bag down the fairway. Look at long hitters - or guy throwing shot put ---- push forward and then back. Padraig Harrington says on the forward move you want your back leg to move behind your front -- feel like you are squeezing your balls with your legs.
You should re-imagine that heavy bag demonstration with the idea that you are trying to throw that bag onto a shelf that is 10 meters high and notice how the hips work. Only then you will have the truth of how the body supports the arm swing while saving the spine. Hint - when turning you should de-weight 1 leg in each direction so that the spine can move with the pelvis as if on a single post. Otherwise, debilitating spinal injury is in your future.
This example of the movement is of course spot on and based on studying the movement of other SUCCESSFUL players. You might be right about this being harmful if the stress or weight is very heavy for example over 20 kg or the movement is limited not flowing and deliberate relaxed motion as demonstrated although people do this kind of work regularly without problems while others immediately can't do it. It comes down to physiology. The problems that would cause back nerve spinal injury in golfers will occur even without the heavy load when the core is weak and the back is predisposed physically to injury. I answered this bc I think Steve is too polite to correct tou.
Well you swing the heavy bag back and up to start, then accelerate down so you have speed to swing the bag up to throw it onto the shelf - the ball is hit on the down, accelerating down from the inside - the ball gets in the way - nothing weak or to the right ever. Try it with your impact bag. Your pivot will be fantastic.

That's it! The secret of the Golf swing. You nailed it. Just like Percy Boomer described it in 1946 and greatly influenced Ben Hogan.
Thanks 🙏🏻
This really helped me I always thought of it as a robotic movement but it feels very fluid by letting the hips move the club
Best tip ever. It makes sense but explained very well with heavy bag drill.

Reimagined tossing UP results in shots that go off line usually right and weak
