Great breakdown of the choke. Love the use of misdirection to make the opponent think they are in control, before they realise it's too late.

I’ve been hitting baseball chokes in gi when big dudes smash.
Tonight is nogi, & I’ll try this 👍
Edit: tried this and failed on a big dude, but I see my problem. I wasn’t keeping my head tight to his. I had my arms stretched out.
But my opponent says I was about 70% to the tap

If you look into Catch Wrestling this was taught to forward roll someone when they're in the neutral position and keeping them in it thru the roll and choke them from "side control".
There's a video of them doing what I'm talking about in Wigan in the 1960's. I was taught this around 1998/99 by a Erik Paulson student. This is known as a "clamp choke". In Catch wrestling/Luta Livre there isnt 3000 names for things. 1 name might have 10 move variations. Its hard to tell someone what something is or call something put as a coach. That is where BJJ is good in a way because each move has an individual name.

Thank you for this instructional. I have no “game” from half guard however I managed to get this on a training partner last night. He ended up turning into it and not tapping so he went to sleep for a moment. Had no clue the choke would be so powerful.

Been hitting this a lot lately. This choke has given me a new love for no-gi. I will say that even though I haven't tried it on experienced wrestlers or judoka, the few times I've set these grips while standing, I get an easy takedown. I don't really go for the choke from standing, rather I use it as a pseudo lateral drop. You either get the takedown, or they sprawl and fall into the choke on their own. Fun stuff. The hard part is getting the grips during standup haha

I'll tell you what, I know a lot of BJJ schools that hate this move because even a pretty good blue belt can tap out higher belts with this . I have seen it several times . I watched a blue belt that got really good at it tap out a good brown belt and then a black belt back to back with it .

Tried this last night but seemed to be relatively easy for the guy to pry my hand/wrist off with his hands to and find space and prevent the choke from being flush and tight, so not sure how legit this no Gi version is when people are determined to break the grip.
It’s also a high risk technique as I found if they succeed in getting a hand in there to prevent it tightening you’ve just given up side control, whereas most other attacks you try and fail it’s no big deal

How is the finger lock detail done? I find that pulling my finger and stretching my wrist is really uncomfortable. I kinda curl my right hand fingers to relieve some of the pressure on my wrist from the stretch. Is that making the move less effective?

Use a 3 finger grip... Done properly, not as shown at the beginning of the video. Look up Neil Melanson for proper application of the 3 finger grip.
